Worst "customer service" ever! Avoid buying LG!

We bought this player for our guest room and never used it for several months aside from a quick setup. It was quirky when I set it up, but nothing too much.
Two weeks ago we finally had guests and they complained that the player kept shutting off not long into their movies, so I started testing and sure enough it wasn't working. I tried taking it back to Best Buy, but since it had been too long I had to go through LG directly to use their 1 year warranty.
I called their service department and they attempted a very silly set of procedures that accomplished nothing and told me to keep trying and to call back if it kept malfunctioning. Of course it still wasn't working when I was still talking with them, but I hung up and tried again... 3 times.
I finally said I didn't believe it was going to work and asked what they could do to get it fixed. All I really want at this point is a working player, but they said all they could do was a PARTIAL refund. Partial refund. I asked for a manager and they said, "well, we can give a full refund with original proof of purchase." I said, "well why didn't you say that instead of assuming I didn't!"
Next I received a link to use to upload my proof of purchase. I attempted to upload the receipt 8-10 times from 3 different computers, each time being redirected to a "Page Not Found" error. I gave up and decided to try again later. Later that week I received a call from LG customer service letting me know that my claim would be denied if I weren't able to prove my purchase within 24 hours, so I chewed them out about their upload service being broken. They let me know that I could also fax it to them, to which I exclaimed in frustration that their upload service being broken is not my fault and that of course I had no access to a fax machine. I managed to try the upload 4-5 more times while on the phone and eventually it did go through and I was informed the next steps would come in the mail in 5-7 business days.
Finally receiving the instructions, reading them made me even more upset. No return envelope was included, but I needed to send the letter back to LG with the original stickers from the back of the player. Once received and approved my payment should be back to me in just 6-8 weeks... 6-8 weeks, are they kidding?
Why they refused to support their product with actual service or at least an exchange is beyond me. I will never buy anything from them again after this experience, but I would have been perfectly happy if they had offered to fix the product or better yet exchange it for one that actually works.
To be fair to this player, it did seem to have a nice interface and was easy to use, except for that one little problem with it not working for 5 minutes in a row without shutting off!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
