Good album from a "rising star"

Mr. Farinacci is a new artist for me but I was surprised to see he actually released his first album in 2003. This Mack Avenue release is his biggest label outing and it's very good. What a great tone he gets on that trumpet! Though he only writes one of the songs here, that may actually make the outing stronger and he's supported by other Mack Avenue stars like Christian McBride. He walks a very enjoyable line between a composed/orchestrated type of sound and a more loose, improvisational one. Very enjoyable!
