Sweet, interesting and educational
on March 6, 2017

This DVD is collection of 2D animated stories that are both educational and entertaining. I like this series because it teaches children to ask questions about things they are curious about. The lead character, Mily is a girl who asks everyone questions. Mily asks questions about typical things that kids are thinking and about everyday situations as well. The show originated in France.
I like the style of the animation. The background of each scene is an actual photo of where it takes place, such as a kitchen. We see an actual photo of a kitchen. The characters’ animation is over the background. I found that cool because I’ve never seen that before in animation.
The message of this movie is to ask questions when you wonder about things. It teaches kids to ask questions even if they seems dumb. If someone doesn’t know something, they have the right to ask. No one should judge them for asking. It also teaches kids to be creative. In one of the episodes, Mily gets bored and doesn’t know what to do. Her friends come up with ideas to keep her from not being bored. They get creative and make games.
My favorite character is Mily’s little sister Lola because she nags Mily in a funny way. She annoys Mily sometimes but you can tell that they love each other. I love how she helps Mily with her questions. She may be younger but she helps Mily a lot.
I give this 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to ages 5 to 10. This DVD is available now wherever DVDs are sold so, be sure to look for it.

Bright Colors, Gukaruiys Jokes, Educational morals
on February 21, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
I love watching the My Little Pony series and this season does not disappoint. I was captivated by the unique plot and relatable characters. This new season has around 110 minutes of fun and exciting adventures that are both entertaining and educational.
The main purpose of My Little Pony is to educate both kids and adults about friendship and everyday issues. It teaches these lessons in a variety of ways, with each and every episode having its own independent adventure that contains hilarious comedy and even action from time to time.
There are five episodes total on DVD and they all focus on adventures around the Crystal Empire, a city in the My Little Pony world. Each adventure is completely different from the others. One is a time travel adventure, another is about protecting the Crystal Empire from freezing weather and another is about making friends with a creature that everyone assumes to be a monster. Despite the differences in each episode, they are all entertaining, unique and have wonderful messages behind them.
The production quality of this animated series has never gone down, but instead continues to improve. One key thing that surprises me most is the plot and the message behind the plot. This season fantastically creates new and interesting elements to continue the exciting journey of the characters. Speaking of characters, the voice-over work is still as emotional, original and natural as it was in the first episode.
Out of the five episodes, my favorite is the last one called The Times They are A Changeling. In this episode, one of the characters discovers a creature known as a changeling that can take the form of any other character. Unlike the rest of his species, he is not driven by hate and anger. The changeling struggles to prove to others that he is not a monster but just someone who wants a friend. This is a fantastic moral because it talks about how one specific person does not reflect what their entire race or nation is doing and should not be judged for the actions of others. It is a marvelous message that I feel is very important for both kids and adults to listen to in today’s world.
My Little Pony is still great for kids, with bright colors, simple but hilarious jokes, and educational morals. But this series also appeals to adults with its compelling stories, relatable characters and morals that can apply to adults as much as they do to kids. I give My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Exploring the Crystal Empire 5 out of 5 stars for its beautiful animation, wonderful episodes, entertaining plot and compelling morals.

Unique, interesting and great ending
on February 6, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
This movie is really unique and interesting. I have never before seen a plot quite like this. The events that happen are quite unusual and I really enjoyed how the ending turned out.
The film follows Travis (Johnny Orlando) who encounters some challenges when he goes to his grandparent’s farm for the summer. By accident, he travels to a different world and gets some big help from the legendary Paul Bunyan (John Goodman) and his talking blue ox, Babe. When they get back to the normal world, they realize that he didn’t just end up in a different world for no reason. He is chased after witnessing Blackstone, a magician, hypnotize a store owner and force her to sell her land to him. Blackstone’s bodyguard is the one who chased him. Eventually, everyone realizes that Blackstone and his brother, Norm Blandsford (Kelsey Grammer) a greedy land developer, are working together. They realize the problem is bigger than they initially thought.
I love how John Goodman’s voice perfectly fits what I think Paul Bunyan might sound like. His voice is deep and strong like a macho man, which seems really fitting. I also liked how Travis (Johnny Orlando) uses his voice to help us know what Travis is feeling. For example, when Travis wants to help Paul Bunyan find Babe, his voice sounds really determined, which shows the audience how persevering he is.
The animation is spectacular. I particularly enjoyed seeing how the body language of each character shows what they are feeling. I also enjoyed seeing Blackstone’s hypnotic device on his hand. It is amazing how the animators made the light look like it was going toward the character and not just staying on the screen of the device. I almost felt like I was being hypnotized myself!
My favorite part of the film is when Babe escapes and starts drinking the toxic water. It amused me that he was so careless. I couldn’t believe that he didn’t see how the color of the water was abnormal and it looked really gross. It was funny to me when Norm Blandsford sees Babe who is just lying there, out cold.
This film’s message is one that many children and even adults can relate to - even though you are small, you can still do big things. This doesn’t only mean small size-wise. It can also mean small, as in just one person in a big world. This message encourages people to keep trying and to never give up, no matter what challenges are in your way, such as being small. The message can also inspire people to not limit themselves as to what they can do, because of things they can’t control, such as being small, not pretty, or not being smart. This message is very important and could help a lot of people get over their insecurities and be more confident in themselves.
I really enjoyed watching this movie and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to ages of 4 to 10. Reviewed by Jolleen M. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic. For more reviews by youth, visit kidsfirst dot org.

Fascinating and likeable characters, clear storyli

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir: Be Miraculous is a fun and entertaining animated show on DVD. It is a set of seven short stories, including two episodes explaining how they get their powers., all on one DVD that brings the viewer through many exciting adventures. It is cool how they show scenes from both sides of the characters’ lives. We see them both as normal teenagers living with their parents to their hidden identities of crime-fighting, world-saving superheroes. It’s also exciting how both human teenagers each have a crush on the other’s superhero counterpart. This is a will they – won’t they theme that goes through the whole series.
The first origin story on the DVD is about how Ladybug and Cat Noir got their superpowers. They were given jewelry by an old man on the street that they randomly helped. The jewelry gave them powers just in time to stop Hawk Moth’s rock monster called a stone hearth get his revenge on everyone who ever wronged him. In the second episode, they must try and save Paris from more stone hearths. In the third episode Animan, Ladybug and Cat Noir must fight another one of Hawk Moth’s monsters called Animan. The next episode, called Simon Says is about a hypnotist that gets controlled by Hawk Moth to capture Ladybug’s and Cat Noir’s powers. In pixelator one of Jagged Stone, a rock star, gets controlled by Hawk Moth and starts storing people digitally in is camera.
This DVD has some very clear storylines and detailed animation. It contains many bright colors and teaches some important lessons about teen life. I would have liked to know more about how their powers work and what Hawk Moths motives were.
My favorite episode was Simon Says. I enjoyed this episode because it was very funny and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It also contained some of the coolest pieces of technology and has the deepest storyline of the bunch.
Each episode has its moral. Overall, the main moral is to be kind and not let negative feelings control you. Other lessons you could learn are that good always conquers evil and that if you believe in yourself you can do anything.
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir: Be Miraculous is a fast-paced and entertaining DVD. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars because it was very creative. I recommend it for ages 6 to 15. Reviewed by Rohan F., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic. For more reviews by youth, go to kidsfirst dot org.

Impressive and colorful animation
on January 26, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
I definitely want to recommend this colorful, quirky show that teaches your kids about letters and words. It will definitely have them singing and laughing while they learn. I found myself doing that. I even found myself doing exercises and having a wonderful time with all the fun characters including Cherry Berry who’s a magical fairy. I love her because she is very inquisitive and she knows what to do. We also have the funny and adorable Alice who is a princess that lives at Capital Castle with her mother and father, the King and Queen. I love them. She also has her BFF with her named Brian who wants to help all the ABC Monsters, just like Alice and Cherry Berry. And, he wants to help his BFFs Alice and Cherry Berry. I love that about his character. He is very kind and sweet.
This is a perfect show for all little kids because it teaches phonics, writing and reading, how to recognize words and letters and so much more. It’s really important for kids to learn how to solve puzzles and how to solve problems. This DVD is great at teaching them how to do those things as well. This is a perfect series. It has a wonderful, fun way of teaching. It’s energetic and gets them up, dancing and laughing and, the next thing you know, they’re singing the alphabet just like Alice, Cherry Berry and Brian. You’ll be smiling and telling them what a great job they’re doing.
I definitely encourage you to share this with your preschoolers because it teaches things that most kids don’t want to learn, but makes it fun and energetic so they will want to watch this DVD over and over again. My favorites episode is Rain and Raffles. I love that one because there is the adorable R-Monster, who is my favorite monster or alphabet letter. One of my favorites I should say, because there are many. Other than that episode, I really like the way that they have so many fun and new characters such as the adorable rabbit who has a magnificent garden full of radishes, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, any kind of vegetable you can think of. They’ve probably got it. There is even a gigantic radish that you’ll learn more about when you watch the DVD. I love this DVD because it’s fun and exciting and I love how it teaches so many different letters and so many different words. I mean, they have one amazing episode about the letter R. That’s what I call terrific. All these letters are just magnificent because they all are so different from each other.
None of them are the same color and they all have their own perspective and personality which I love.
I recommend this DVD for ages 2 to 5. Kids will learn and have a great time. They’ll have fun as they sing, dance and learn. It’s also great teaching kids how to solve problems. Have fun. I give this 4 out of 5 Alphabet Fantastic Stars. This is available on DVD January 24, 2017 so, go check it out.

Truly a work of art with beautiful, hand-drawn ani
on January 23, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
There are animated films that don’t use animation to its full potential and treat it as a tool instead of an art. Long Way North is not one of these films for it is a beautifully crafted animated masterpiece. Long Way North, at its core, is an adventure - not just a physical one, but an emotional one for the protagonist, Sacha. With so many dangerous moments, there is a multitude of action scenes filled with drama and intensity. This film will inspire you with its heartwarming story.
The story takes place in 1880s St. Petersburg, Russia. Sacha (Christa Théret) is a young girl from a very successful family. She doesn’t have her eyes on politics or wealth. Instead, Sacha has her eyes on the North Pole. After her grandfather disappears on a voyage to the North Pole, she makes it her mission to find him. It won’t be easy, she has never worked in her entire life and she will have to do it without her wealthy parents’ support.
One thing that is truly spectacular about this movie is how quickly you understand the conflict, protagonist, plot and goals of the protagonist. Within the first five minutes, I knew the names of each character, Sacha’s hopes and dreams, her challenges and why her character is unique. Very few films can achieve this with even a simple plot which shows how well the film’s story is shown. Another beautiful part of the film is the animation. It is hand drawn and very colorful. The style perfectly suits the story and seamlessly shows the different elements of the movie, from big ice cliffs to the stormy seas. One aspect of the film I disliked is the voiceover acting and dubbing. The movie was recorded originally in French and is dubbed in English. Many times, the voices are very emotional and perfectly fit the characters, but at times the voices are too soft and sound as if they were recorded in a room somewhere and not where the action is taking place. Despite this, turning on sub-titles completely removes this issue and it is still a very entertaining and enjoyable film.
My favorite scene is when Sacha first leaves the large mansion, surrounded by the maids she grew up with. What appeals to me about this scene is how connected you feel to this young girl. You can feel her fear, excitement and wonder that she is experiencing. It is all achieved, thanks to the amazing story, wonderful animation and unique, but relatable characters.
Parents have very little to worry about in this film. In a few scenes, there is some mild language, but that’s it. I recommend it for ages 5 to 18. It is intended to be a kid’s film, but because of the mature and inspiring story, I believe that teenagers and young adults will enjoy it as well. I give it 4 ½ out of 5 stars because it only has one small issue with the dubbing and voice-overs, but it is truly a work of art and something the whole family can enjoy watching. This film is available on DVD on January 17, 2017 so, go check it out. You’re sure to enjoy this adventure.

Beautiful Animation, Unique Story Line And Memorab
on January 17, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
Mystery, friendship and trust make this an amusing film to watch. The discovery of new planets in the galaxy, each with its own strange inhabitants is a fun concept. I take joy in watching what or who the new planet and characters will be. Beautiful animation, unique story line and memorable characters make this a must see film. I can’t wait to see the next adventure. This year, the Little Princess has become one of favorite characters. This series is based on the book from France, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's.
The Little Prince and his friend Fox travel across the galaxy visiting different planets. A giant black cobra which symbolizes different emotions like fear, hatred, sadness and jealousy covers the galaxy with darkness. The Little Prince must find out what ails each planet. He is constantly homesick for his red rose on his home planet B612. While visiting the planet of Gargand, they discover that the people there rely on wishing trees, which must be replaced every 122 days, to hold their planet together. The children make a wish upon a tree seed that is dropped down chimneys. The trees then re-grow and each child is rewarded with a new tree which contains the gifts they wished for. One of my favorite parts of this movie is learning what each child asks for such as a hiding tree, a joking tree, a music tree and things like that. I laughed so hard when the Fox asks for a chicken tree and even harder when I saw what tree appeared. The Fox is darling and humorous.
The story reminds me of Christmas - making a wish list, Santa coming down the chimney and waking up to new toys. I wish that along with the gifts the children get from their trees that the trees might look like the item the children wished for. The Gargand delivers the seeds while flying on a Jagunda, a big blue saber-tooth looking creature with bat wings who throws the seeds down the chimney. I am enchanted with these beautiful creatures.
There is a race to find a new Gargand. Thery and Dokan are the main competitors, but when the best doesn’t win there might be cheating. The loser takes matters into his own hands. Along with the help of the snake, a peaceful happy community is thrown into disaster.
My favorite part of this film is the captivating animation which is full of carefully thought out and has meticulous details. The colors and the flow of the movie are perfect.
The moral of this story is to think before you act because the thought of losing and revenge could cost the lives of the whole planet. The loser kidnaps Lyl the Alchemist, who puts the wishes into the tree seeds. Even if you think everything is falling apart you should stop, think it out and try again. Sometimes when you hold on to things too tightly out of fear of loss, you hurt the thing you are trying to protect.
I recommend this film to kids ages 6 to 18. The storyline contains lessons for younger kids and characters they can relate to but there are messages that older kids and parents will relate to as well.

Love is Stronger than Hate
on January 17, 2017
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
Ever have a dream about you or one of you friends getting captured by an evil snake? I know I have. Then, you should watch the Little Prince: The Planet of the Snake. I particularly enjoyed this movie because the Fox is funny and has a good sense of humor. The Fox is always encouraging The Little Prince to keep on going and keep on trying even when times get rough. I enjoyed the plot of the movie as well as the theme, which is "love is stronger than hate." The Little Prince has a lot of love, which keeps him strong. This film is about this boy named The Little Prince whose true love, Rose gets captured by an evil snake named Snake. The Little Prince embarks on an adventure with his friend Fox to save Rose and destroy Snake once and for all. The Little Prince along with his friend Fox travel to different planets to look for Snake. They start out on the planet that Fox and The Little Prince live on, Asteroid B612 and travel to different parts of space and various planets.
The Little Prince and the Fox gather many clues, which lead them to the mysterious island where Snake is. They get attacked by a bunch of weird black balls of gas called gloomies, which throw them off track when they try to look for Snake. This movie is animated and, although it could have been better I still enjoyed the story and its message. The problem for me was that the animation and sound weren't in sync. For example, when the Little Prince spoke, you would see his mouth move and two seconds later you would hear him say the word. That was distracting to me. Still, this is a great movie for ages 3 to 10. Younger kids might find some of the characters and scenes too frightening. Kids who like animated movies and adventure storylines would really like this movie. I give it 3 out of five stars because of its good story and problems with the sound sync.

Entertains and Educates
on December 13, 2016
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab: ‘Twas the Night Before Liftoff is a wonderful DVD that is educational and interesting and still very funny and entertaining. In it, some very colorful characters have a very important and exciting adventure. It also has an educational, original music video at the end of each episode.
This DVD contains six seasonal episodes of Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab that create one special holiday story. It features four kid geniuses who help a virtual Thomas Edison to solve every day and unusual problems using science. In the first episode, Stranger in a Strange Lab, the kids learn about wormholes from Albert Einstein so they can help Thomas Edison’s Friend, Bob, with an urgent, top-secret project. In the following episodes, which include Sturm und Drag, All the Heavy Lifting, Twas the Night Before Liftoff, Von Bolt Meets Santa, and And to all a Good Flight, they help him solve problems with his project using their scientific knowledge, scientific theories and the help of historic geniuses such as Isaac Newton, Pythagoras and George Cayley. Meanwhile, Thomas Edison’s steampunk robot, Van Bolt, digs deeper into Bob’s secrets to reveal his true identity and the real reason his project is so urgent.
This film is very funny and educational, teaching science, history and
vocabulary in a very entertaining way. It also contains loads of cool fun facts. I really like how all the scientists that help the four kids are real scientists from history such as Albert Einstein. From watching this DVD, I learned that George Cayley created one of the first flying machine, how airplanes fly and the amount of time you can be in freezing temperatures before getting hypothermia or frostbit. I also learned that batteries die quicker in cold temperatures and how space suits work. My favorite part of the DVD is the original music videos at the end of every episode. They are funny, cool, and catchy and actually help to remember the facts!
I give this DVD five out of five stars because there was nothing I didn’t like about it. I recommend it for children age 5 to 13 and I think it would make great holiday viewing for kids that are interested in science and engineering.

Wonderful story lines and exciting characters
on November 17, 2016
Posted by: kidsfirstmedia
I love this DVD with its seven, fun-filled episodes with wonderful story lines, exciting characters and fun animation. The animation is similar to what LEGO movies use, but it Is different and transports you to a new place.
The stories usually start off at King’s castle and the characters leaving on an adventure. The PLAYMOBIL characters are young, quirky and still trying to figure out their abilities. They all have clothing that matches their various characters which adds to making them look realistic. The Super 4 leader is a prince who is the brave knight, Alex (Damien Ferrette). A rambunctious and quirky pirate, Ruby (Laetitia Lefebvre) has their backs at all times although she is a bit of a thief. A shy and adorable fairy, Twinkle (Sarah Natochenny) is still learning how to use her magic wand. An intelligent and boastful scientist, Gene (Franck Lorrain) stands out from the others because he is a scientist from the future. Also, there is a silly girly girl, Leonora Princess (Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld) who loves her brother but can be a bit of a burden at times. She is very kind and clever and tries to help the Super 4 save the day and the kingdom.
This is set in medieval times, a period I always take joy in watching with its knights, dragons, castles and, of course, a catapult. The background and castles put you the mood to grab your sword and defend the castles. Gene makes this a unique story line. His futuristic vehicle with computers, wheels and an engine sure beats walking or riding horseback. He always tells the viewers facts and science knowledge to help them solve the problems.
The voice talent are perfectly matched for their characters. The fairy is a bit high pitched perhaps but, one thing I like is that you can always tell who is talking because their voices are re all so distinct. The episode “Princely Wedding” is humorous because the Princess is put under a love spell and falls in love with the Black Knight and Super 4 must figure out what is going on. She wants nothing to do with them because she is madly in love and will not listen to anyone, but her “love” is a sworn enemy of the kingdom. She is a girly girl, so this episode is totally out of character for her. I smiled from ear to ear in the “Baby Dragon” episode when Gene, the mature scientist, is singing a lullaby and is attached to the baby.
The lesson learned here is that we all need each other to conquer problems. You should never give up as there are always different ways to look at things. When you do, you can find a solution. I recommend this to kids age 5 to 12. The episodes are short enough to keep young ones’ attention and the unique animation, story lines and science information will entertain older kids. I give this 5 out of 5 super PLAYMOBIL stars.
