Taika Waititi Does It Again!!
on November 3, 2016
Posted by: danforth
If you like Taika Waititi (Boy, What We Do In The Shadows. Eagle vs. Shark), you'll like this flick. I never go into story details in my reviews, as I don't want to spoil anything, and you can easily find trailers if you don't mind spoilers. I will, however, comment on the product. This is for the Blu-ray, not the DVD. If you follow Blu-ray news, you probably are aware that the US version is plain ol' BD-R. This product sold by Best Buy is the Australian import, which is probably the reason the price is so high at the moment. This is a good thing though. It's a proper release. And although it says Region B on the back, indicating that it's Region B Locked, it plays just fine in Region A (US) Blu-ray players. So if you want the official Blu-ray without importing it yourself, this is the one to get.
Hope this helps!! ♥

What Did I Just Watch?
on November 3, 2016
Posted by: danforth
Hmmm...how to review this? I don't want to give anything away. I would even recommend avoiding trailers as I did just to let it all be fresh upon first viewing. Everyone I know that has seen this always starts the conversation following it with, "What the heck (censored) did I just watch?". This is something you'll want to share with all of your friends, something you'll want to watch over and over again. It's definitely movie of the year material, and I can't recommend it enough. ♥

Fair warning: This is a love 'em or hate 'em type of band. Listen to some of their songs before purchasing their albums. But do yourselves a favor and go in with an open mind. Don't listen to the metal elitists. Just give them a chance and you're more than likely going to enjoy what you hear. Enjoy what you hear? Great!! Well, now it's time to take it up a notch and catch them live. Their amazing music is only just the half of it. Their live show will blow you away. See them while you can, because who knows how long a group like this will stay together. Hopefully we'll have many more years of BABYMETAL, but you'll regret it for the rest of your life if you pass up seeing them live. Please support them not only by seeing them live, but also by purchasing their music. This album is perfection. It deserves to be purchased, not pirated. ♥

Album Of The Year
on November 3, 2016
Posted by: danforth
BABYMETAL are back!! For those who aren't familiar with the group, listen to some of their songs before purchasing anything by them. This is a love 'em or hate 'em group. METAL RESISTANCE stays true to their sound from their previous album when it comes to most songs. However, there are a few that are quite different, and a welcomed change of pace. The only problem that I have with this is, like many other artists, tracklists differ just slightly in other countries (just Japan in this case). My favorite track of theirs is "Syncopation," which isn't on the US release. However, you don't want only the Japanese version, as then you'll miss out on "From Dusk Till Dawn," which is an excellent bridge from part 1 of the album to part 2. Do yourselves a favor: Buy the US edition and then purchase the mp3 of "Syncopation" from a Japanese site (Amazon, iTunes, etc.). In a day of so much piracy, please support this band and purchase their music. They truly deserve it. And hopefully The Fox God will bless us with many more years of this amazing band!!

The complete first season of the TBS original police comedy series Angie Tribeca. Rashida Jones stars as detective Angie Tribeca, a veteran on the force for the Really Heinous Crimes Unit, along with her partner Jay Geils (Hayes MacArthur) as they crack cases in Los Angeles. Steve Carell and his wife Nancy Walls Carell co-created this satire of police procedurals.

Pleasant Surprise
on November 3, 2016
Posted by: danforth
This was a blind buy for me. I didn't know anything about it going in (other than it being a cop show), but assumed it was going to be a typical comedy similar to Brooklyn Nine-Nine (which I love). Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise. This show is no typical comedy. My best attempt to compare it to other shows would be to compare it to something on Adult Swim, something in the vein of Eagleheart, Tim & Eric, Children's Hospital, etc. I don't keep up with the TV ratings, but I do hope that this isn't canceled any time soon. Or that if they do, Adult Swim would be willing to pick it up, as it fits right in. Highly recommended!!

Same Ol' Tales...
on November 14, 2015
Posted by: danforth
I usually try to keep my reviews objective, focusing on every aspect of the product. However, sometimes being subjective is the best option. This being the case, this game comes down to how well you enjoy the Tales series. It's more of the same. Nothing innovative here. But why would there be? If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? If you love the Tales series like most JRPG fans do, you'll love this game. Personally, I usually only play Tales games when waiting for other JRPGs to be released. It's not a bad play regardless of where you stand on the series, unless you just absolutely hate the series. Just don't expect anything game changing. Expect nothing more, nothing less.

When aspiring doctor Olivia "Liv" Moore (Rose McIver) is transformed into a zombie, she decides the best way to satisfy her hunger for brains is to seek employment at the local morgue. Little does she know that eating the brains of murder victims not only transfers personality traits to her, but gives her a window into their unsolved demises. Three discs include every episode from season one, with extras like deleted scenes and the cast's 2014 Comic-Con panel.

Must Watch TV
on November 7, 2015
Posted by: danforth
I'll begin by saying that iZombie is a 5 star show. It's difficult to really capture the feel of it to let those considering the purchase know what they're getting into without spoilers of any kind. The best I can do is say that it's somewhat of a cross between Veronica Mars and Pushing Daisies. While it would have been nice to have a Blu-ray release (which is extremely disappointing -- I'm guessing not enough viewers??), that's not what brought the score down to a 4. Why the 4 star rating? Extras. There is around a 20 minute video featuring the cast at SDCC that lets you see them outside of their characters, which makes it a really good watch. Other than that, just a few deleted scenes. No commentaries, making of, behind the scenes, interviews, etc. If you're like me, a collector of shows that I'll watch multiple times, this is still a must own title, even if it is only on DVD. But if you purchase Blu-rays/DVDs for the extra content, you will be disappointed. Since this is a product review and not IMDB, I dropped a star for this reason. I hope this review is helpful to at least some of you out there on the fence.

Take a journey back in time to the life — and death — of famous classical composer Frederic Chopin. On his deathbed, Chopin enters a magical dream of a young girl on the brink of a terrible destiny and of a young boy who fights to save her. Will the characters in Chopin's dream survive the battles ahead? In Eternal Sonata, explore an immersive world filled with fantastically detailed 3D graphics, high-definition anime-style cel-shading and the lilting compositions of Frederic Chopin. Don't be fooled by the beauty that surrounds you; cunning enemies that can change shape will engage you in intense battles loaded with free-roaming and turn-based action. Overcome these adversaries with strategic use of light and darkness and by adjusting your special attacks to each situation. Play as either Crescendo or Serenade as you explore new quests, battles and events that heighten the action and drama of this moving tale of life, death and destiny.

Beautiful
on October 18, 2015

The game is beautiful in every way. The story, the music, the graphics, the environments. It's nice to have a turn-based game during a time in which turn-based games seem to be dying out. And a fresh take on the gameplay as well. While still turn-based, they changed it up a bit for this game, adding a timer, the ability to move around, as well as enemies changing forms and styles in different elements (which is where the moving around strategy really comes in handy). I can't recommend this game enough to those JRPG fans out there. And it's a great game to start on if you're new to the JRPG genre.

Stick With It!!
on September 1, 2015
Posted by: danforth
I'll address a few common complaints in this review while trying to avoid spoilers.
A very common complaint, perhaps the most common, is that you can just go through the game by only pressing one button. This is most definitely not the case. These complaints come from people who didn't stick with the game. I didn't dock it any points, but I do understand some people giving up on it, as the tutorials seem to last forever. It's an extremely slow start, but if you stick with it you'll find that the battle system is very well implemented, and will keep you on your toes late in the game. You'll have to switch back and forth at just the right time to do damage and shield yourself from certain death. The battle system that seems boring for a while in the beginning becomes very active and satisfying. Just stick with it.
Another complaint is no open-world / no side-quests. If you're familiar with older JRPGs, you'll understand that while a lot of them do allow you to travel to various locations at any time you wish, it's mostly unnecessary (speaking of older JRPGs that don't level enemies based on your level#. You can't go to certain spots due to the enemies being too high of a level to face. Then when you level up enough to go to those certain spots, travelling back to previous locations seems pointless, as you'll gain little to no XP from those low level enemies. The only reason to do so would be to do side missions, which are absent in this game until very late #mostly meant to do post-game#. This is due to the story. You're being chased. This adds that effect of needing to rush to put an end to the situation. Another reason you can't interact with other NPCs is because of how they view you #which you see at one point in the game).
The last thing that I'll address is the story. Like combat, it begins somewhat slow. Again, stick with it and you'll find that the story will grab you and keep you interested until the end.
If you can make it past the first few hours, you will more than likely enjoy this game if you're into JRPGs.
My final statement is the title: Stick with it. ♥

Excellent RPG
on August 31, 2015

Proof that turn-based combat can still be just as fun today as it was back when most RPGs were turn-based, this just might be the best RPG put out last generation. Great story, combat, and a balanced difficulty that requires strategy but doesn't force you to grind for hours on end just to finish the game. A must-own for RPG fans. ♥
