It Does MOST of what I need it to

What I need:
1. GPS to track race times and accurate mileage.
2. Waterproof (or mostly)
3. Time display
4. Inactivity Alerts
5. Step counter
6. Heart rate monitor.
7. Cost less than $250.
8. Sync with my phone. (Garmin Forerunner 15 lacks this feature)
I did A LOT of research before I decided on the Forerunner 15. I had a FitBit that bit the dust after I accidentally got it wet. That was a bummer. The Fitbit is a glorified pedometer that syncs to your phone. Although it's small, you still have to wear a watch and check your phone constantly to see step count.
The Garmin Forerunner 15 does have a nice watch display. It is easy to use and understand. The battery life is stellar. Much better than the Fitbit. My only gripe is that I wish it would sync to my phone app. The step display is clear, easy to read, and the light is great. Mileage is the most accurate I have seen thus far. (I compared it with an "old school" step counter). Fitbit is a bit generous (usually registered 10% more steps than what I actually took).
I like the look and design of the new fitbit Surge, but with the battery life issues, and bugs in the software, I am going to hold on to my Forerunner for another year or so.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Will it count steps while pushing a stroller?

I realize the GPS function can map out where you've been, but will it accurately count steps and calories if you are pushing a stroller? This has been a problem with some of the non-GPS trackers.
The Garmin Forerunner counts all your steps even if you are holding something. It works very well. I have never had any issues with the counting function whatsoever.

System requirements for use?

I want to buy a Garmin Forerunner 15, but my Macbook is OS X version 10.6.8, which apparently does not meet the system requirements for Garmin Express. Does this mean I cannot use the watch or the Garmin Connect website at all?
Yes. That is exactly what it means. I upgraded my laptop so that I could use the watch. (okay, my son also broke my other laptop, but we are talking about the watch). I couldn't use the Garmin program on any system that isn't listed on their site. Won't load data. It takes forever to see the error code.

Do you have to have wifi for this to really work?

My daughter doesn't have wifi available but GPS works because of the satellites. Will this watch work for her? She is a runner and also works out several times a week.
Wifi and GPS are two totally different things.
WiFi is what cell phones use to communicate and download data apart from the cell service provider.
GPS are satellite controlled. This is only a problem on very cloudy days.
If you want to know if this watch will transmit data wirelessly, No. It will not. You have to plug the watch in to get any information from the watch. I am also a runner, and the GPS works wonderfully on most days. It has a hard time registering miles on a bicycle and a elliptical. If that isn't a problem, then this watch will work fine.
If she wants a watch that she can sync with her phone, then the Polar M400 may be a better option. It also has GPS, and a step counter.
