SunJoy's Reviews

Even with its 12.9-inch Retina display, the largest and most capable iPad ever is only 6.9mm thin and weighs just 1.57 pounds. It has a powerful A9X chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, four speaker audio, advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity¹, iCloud, the breakthrough Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and up to 10 hours of battery life.² It also includes great apps for productivity and creativity, as well as many more incredible apps available in the App Store. And with powerful new features in iOS 9 like multitasking, iPad Pro can do things no iPad has done before.

Takes time to get used to...

I have been keenly awaiting the arrival of iPad Pro and finally got it on launch date. Here is what I think of it after using it for two days.
1. The first reaction is "It is BIG!!!" It's bulky, but surprisingly light. You cannot hold it for long in one hand though. So, no reading kindle, iBooks or watching movies by holding it in one hand like my iPad mini. A stand is a must.
2. The resolution is captivating and rich. Everything looks bigger. The apps are yet to be developed for this powerful hardware. So the experience is limited. It should get better with time. Will need to wait...
3. I have used it as I would use my laptop. I could do pretty much everything that I would do on my laptop. However this still brings up the mobile version of sites when you visit through safari which limits your ability to download data and files which works smoothly with laptop or desktop. (e.g. bank transaction details, data from research sites). Hopefully with more and more people shifting to mobile platform, the websites will be built for mobile platform rather than desktop versions being adjusted to mobile. That will be the day when I would not need my laptop any more. I do not miss the USB port any more since I use cloud a lot more for storage.
3. The split screen is the best thing about this one. I do a lot of multi-tasking with apps like numbers, pages, mails, iBooks, safari, vizable etc. I can work on two apps side by side which is super awesome. No more toggling between screen and tabs. It is almost like having two iPad mini side by side and working on both.
4. The apple pencil and keyboard are not available currently which is a bummer. I used my Pencil 53 stylus and it works the same way as earlier. The apps and white boards are simply blown up currently and you have more space to get finer details right. There is no visible refinement yet. I guess will truly know the power when we get our hands on apple pencil.
5. It's fun playing games on this because of its rich display and powerful processor. However, best played as a board game as you get tired holding it in your hands. You need both hands for sure.
6. Be ready to hear friends and family questioning the need to buy it. They will not be convinced. So buy it only if you are early adapters. If you want the full experience wait for a while.
7. Lastly, the reviews suggest that iPad Pro will be difficult to repair. Because of its bigger size, it is likely to be prone to accidents. So, recommended to but apple care+ for two years for peace of mind.
So I would see techies getting excited with it because of the promise of hardware. Apps are yet to be developed to use the processing power. It will be a while. So, if you are not excited by technical specifications, wait for a while to have a better experience. You are better off with iPad Air 2. You will love this if you are a multi-tasker and always wanted two screens. This is perfect for you. You will also like it if you are creative artist and love drawing, sketching or designs. You need apple Pencil for sure which is currently taking 4-6 weeks for shipping and is available online only.
