Just bought this for the weekend house and couldn't be happier. Had been projecting (from the Brookstone HDMI projector) on a pastel yellow wall but needed something for the downstairs. So happy with this I'm gonna buy another for the city, where I'm currently projecting on a white sheet backed by a black one, suspended from the picture rail and weighted at the bottom with a $2 metal dowel from Home Depot, the whole thing held together with binder clips!
Would like to see the carefully framed and arranged artwork behind the sheets again, but the whole thing is too cumbersome to put up and take down, so once this is mounted it'll be permanent. In the country (where the husband refuses to look at it when it's not in use) I've suspended it on 2 $1 hooks screwed into the ceiling beams, so that's the only hardware visible when the screen's put away. Hanging it takes under a minute, and fortunately the speakers from a shelf system were already on the mantel behind.
I was wary about the mechanism after reading some previous reviews, but I find it operates as easily as a window shade -- MORE easily actually -- maybe I just got lucky.
The dimensions are more than adequate, the price was terrific, the images look great, and I couldn't be happier!
I don't know why the Best Buy (and even the Samsung) website lists this set as having 3 HDMI inputs and only 1 component -- that almost kept me from buying it. It has TWO component inputs, one side, one rear.
I had purchased the Samsung B630 52" LCD for significantly more money but replaced it with this one. Firstly, it was defective; I set the diplay mode to "Movie" but it kept reverting to "Dynamic" every 20 minutes or so and had to be switched back manually by navigating the menu. (This model will toggle through aspect ratios and display modes on the remote without entering the menu, a feature I love and use all the time.) Phone tech support said the TV was set on "store" mode and that I should switch it to "home," but when they talked me through the menus we found that that option didn't exist, and that the set was simply defective.
Also, I didn't like the "Soap Opera" effect on movies using the 120 hz refresh rate (the images were too crisp and had no film-like texture), though I have since learned that this can be countered by navigating the semi-user friendly menu and changing settings every time you wanna watch a movie.
I have two upconverting DVD player/recorders (one with a 160 GB hard drive, wish they still made those!) which I'm happy with, and don't really feel the need to go Blue Ray (and buy The Wizard Of Oz and Gone With The Wind yet AGAIN), so all of my sources are 60 hz and likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future. I just didn't see the point of 120 hz reproduction of 60 hz sources.
I should probably add that I wouldn't play a video game or watch a sports event if you put a gun to my head, so this review doesn't address those activities. I watch MOVIES almost exclusively (DVD's, Turner Classic HD, On Demand, etc...), and rarely watch any network or commercially sponsored programing. (No, I have never seen American Idol and I never will!) So to be fair, if you want to watch sports and/or play games you'd be better off consulting the other reviews.
And anybody buying a 52" LCD probably has a surround system, so who cares about the crummy built in speakers? (I turned them on once, went, "Wow, they really ARE as lousy as everybody says," and have never used them again.)
This is a great set at a great price, and Best Buy dropped the price shortly after I purchased it so the credited my Amex $300! Can't ask for better than that!
What's great about it: Picture, ease of use, PRICE!
