This underground hit from the '80s comes to DVD in a widescreen anamorphic picture format (with a theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1) and a single audio track, English Dolby 2.0, with Spanish and French subtitles and closed-captioning available. Special or bonus features include a bit of behind-the-scenes footage, a director-narrated audio commentary, a visual effects commentary, some information on the film's score, a short featurette on the formation and fleshing out of the character concepts, and a photo gallery of stills. While the picture quality is of about a VHS level of detail and coloring, the sound quality is strictly mono and barely adequate, just as it was in the film's original theatrical release.

Forgetting the clichés and the stereotypical characterizations, Jeepers Creepers 2 is a decent horror film. It's also an above-average DVD. MGM, who knows how to put together a decent special-edition disc, has done just that with this sequel. While not faultless, the 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer looks very nice. Early parts of the film are purposely washed out, while it turns darker later, and both are fine translations from the filmed image. Minor flaws do appear, but they are generally insignificant enough not to be a distraction. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is equally impressive, as the surrounds are used extensively, but also come across very naturally. The overall sound scheme is effective and full, with the right balance between dialogue, music, and sound effects. Where the disc really stands out, though, is with the supplemental features. The highlights are two screen-specific audio commentaries and a lengthy documentary. The first commentary is by director Victor Salva and cast members Eric Nenninger, Garikayi Mutambirwa, Nicki Lynn Aycox, Josh Hammond, Marieh Delfino, and Shaun Flemming. The second, called the "Creeper Commentary," consists of actor Jonathan Breck, makeup artist Brian Penikas, and storyboard artist Brad Parker. The documentary, entitled "Lights, Action, Creeper: The Making of Jeepers Creepers 2," runs nearly 40 minutes and is broken down into four very enlightening segments: "Lights, Camera, Creeper," "Creeper Creation," "Creeper Composer," and "Digital Effects." In addition to this, and also quite fascinating, is a shorter documentary, "A Day in Hell," in which Salva is followed for a day's shooting. Although two photo galleries are standard fare, there are two unfilmed scenes shown in storyboard form that will interest enthusiasts. Also included are a number of deleted scenes, but they run together in a way that seems confusing. Finally, along with the theatrical trailer for this film are promotional spots for other MGM titles, including Out of Time, Bulletproof Monk, and the original Jeepers Creepers. While there are no claims that this is high art, or even a great scare flick, it is an effective film. As for this DVD, they don't often get much better.

Directed by Victor Salva, Jeepers Creepers is a stylish, moody American horror film that subverts many of the tired clichés that have plagued the genre in recent years. Although the film is reminiscent of other productions (especially Spielberg's Duel and Jaws), Creepers manages to find its own sense of purpose. It's also one of the more scary American mainstream horror films to come down the pike in awhile. MGM Home Entertainment has done a stellar job with this DVD and obviously felt that the film deserved more than a toss-off release. The film is available in both full screen and letterboxed (1.85:1 enhanced) formats. The transfer for either version is fantastic, although the letterboxed format is preferable for obvious reasons. Many of the film's scenes glow (especially during some of the earlier daylight moments), which is a startling realization when one remembers that the filmmakers have taken such care in what could have been just your average teen horror flick. The audio tracks are also impressive, beautifully highlighting Bennett Salvay's thunderous music score. What's not so impressive, though, is the commentator track with Salva. It's not that it isn't informative or interesting at times, it just doesn't entertain. But Salva is a very gracious host and thanks his crew and the actors numerous times for raising his material above the average horror dreck. But the disc does contain some excellent supplemental material such as a collection of six mini-featurettes that give a nice overview of the production, plenty of deleted and extended scenes (some of which are excellent), a photo gallery, theatrical and TV trailers, and much more. There's also a nifty little Easter Egg on the main menu page; left click after highlighting any of the menu options and will find something staring straight at you.
