After waiting 2 weeks for August to ship 2 screws compatible with my Schlage lock, I was able to install the lock only to find out the following.
Simply stated, this product should not be advertised as compatible with Android. If you have an Android phone head over to the Play Store before you purchase and take a look at the myriad 1-star reviews for the August app - it currently has an embarrassing 2.6 average. I wish I had seen this as the reviews are all stating essentially the same thing - the Android app does not like unlocking the lock. It's buggy as can be, has a hard time finding the lock when nearby, and Auto-Unlock will most certainly fail you the vast majority of the time. Any lock should be able to lock and unlock, and the August Smart Lock only succeeds in the former with Android, making it a complete failure in my eyes.
That said, it DOES work as advertised with iPhones. There have been a couple of times Auto-Unlock hasn't worked properly for my boyfriend after leaving the area, but not enough to call it unreliable on the iPhone.
So my recommendation really boils down to the phone you plan on using this lock with. If you and your family all have iPhones, great, you're good to go and the product description and specs apply to you. If you have any Android phone, steer clear because the Smart Lock will not function as advertised until they can ship a properly functioning app, and they've had 2 years to do so. Right now you can consider it to be in the alpha stage of compatibility, and thus should not be sold as working with Android.
