The RING doorbell
It is seldom that a product moves me to make a public statement, let alone a review. So here I go gushing about a product that even the Shark Tank guys missed out on. The RING doorbell is an amazing product. It's amazing because it works, it's simple and it is easy to install. Imagine being able to see and converse, with anyone on your porch, from anywhere in the world!
I am somewhat of a tech-gadget junkie. Unfortunately, my tech skills are limited to using the toaster. I love things like closed circuit security systems, GPS and smart phones. Problem is most of these products don't work “Out-of-the-Box”. Most have a learning curve similar to learning how to fly a plane. Example: I have a complete security system with five cameras sitting in a box in my spare room closet. It obviously is not doing its job as designed. The wiring and setup of the system was totally overwhelming to me. I was going to hire someone to install it until my wife put a $200 cap on the adventure. Not so with the RING doorbell. Opened the box, followed the instructions and 20 minutes later I watched my nosy neighbor step up on my porch to inspect the new doorbell. I have to admit I really enjoyed the look on his face when I asked him what he wanted via the built in intercom. To make it even better, the entire thing was recorded and can be shared... now that was worth the price of admission, which by the way, is just under $200.
The doorbell can be triggered by either motion (with adjustable sensing pattern) or by ringing the doorbell in the traditional manner. Your regular door chime will ring as it always has, but here is what is not traditional. When the bell is triggered your phone rings a special alert and a video appears on the screen showing you a crisp, HD live feed of who is in front of the doorbell's built-in camera. You can then answer through the intercom and carry on a conversation with the visitor. What is important is that you can be anywhere on the planet as long as you can get a cell signal!
Okay, you ask why is that such a big deal? It's big because 85% of robberies start with a ring of a doorbell to see if someone is home. You'll NEVER not be home, once you install the RING doorbell... you'll always know who is at your door and they won't know if you are at home or in Paris. Pretty cool.
There is another use. The motion senor and recorder provide a great way of keeping track of the kids coming and going from the house. Even when you are away at work or traveling. If you have kids that leave for school after you leave for work, you'll know what time they left and if they were alone or with someone. Same when they return from school. If you go away for the weekend,,, the no party or no boys rules are tech-enforced. Recently, while traveling, we hired a service to check on our dog and care for her. I have a record of the person coming and going and how long they were there.
I am in awe of this product and cannot endorse it more actively. I am not employed by the company or do I receive any form of compensation other than the satisfaction of telling others that I have found a GREAT product that actually does exactly what it claims to do... and maybe more. Again, pretty cool.
