Great Watch!
on October 11, 2015

The gear s2 is a great smartwatch! I've been using it every day since it was released on 10/02. I'll go over my experience with the watch and what to expect:
+The watch is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and it's not too heavy on the wrist.
+The screen is not very big, but it is big enough to be able to read your notifications and use your apps. The screen is gorgeous to look at and visible in direct sunlight
+ The rotating bezel is a joy to use and it's very intuitive. This makes the gear s2 easier to use than android wear watches or even the apple watch.
- There are not many apps on the app store for the watch at the moment, but many are being developed at the moment and will launch soon (including many presented by samsung when they announced the watch.
+The watch is a great fitness tracker, it tracks your steps and automatically detects whenever you are doing light activity(walking or running) and logs it in the shealth app. This feature is GREAT and is not present in android wear devices or the apple watch. However, do not expect it to be better than Polar fitness trackers.
+You can control the music that is being played on your phone from the watch(yes, this includes spotify - haven't tested it with pandora or google play music yet).
+ The battery life on this watch blows out of the water the battery life on many other smartwatches: Been using it all day to read my notifications, look at the time and control my music and I am at 86 percent of battery (9am to 9pm).
- There is NO speaker on this watch model, and you CANNOT talk on the phone with this watch. Yes, that is unfortunate, but no.. that doesn't mean the product should be rated 1/5.
+ There are two vibration levels, and the strongest one is definitely strong enough for you not to miss it, but not too strong.
+ This watch is also IP68 certified water and dust resistant, which is a big plus.
- The S-Voice assistant is definitely not the best voice assistant, but is not too bad. You can place calls or dictate texts relatively easy with it. I have not been able to make reminders for some weird reason.
- Google Now or Google Maps have no available apps for this watch. This is definitely a con. However, Here maps (owned by nokia) is a very decent maps app that can be used on this watch.
As a summary, yes I would recommend this to a friend. But, as any product, it has its limitations. Most people that rate it 1/5 or 2/5 did not do their research before purchasing this product and were expecting something that was never advertised by Samsung.
I would recommend this to a friend!

not ready for release-many flaws
By mtbdavid
I really wanted to like this watch as I was searching for a really good and functional smart watch for sports, hiking and cycling. There are so many flaws I found with the gear S2 which did not exist on the original gear S. The activities monitoring apps whether it be nike fit or S health do not stay on while exercising. The screens always reverts back to the watch screen. I like to track my miles and speed while working out. I cannot do this without flipping through the dial and manually going back to the app I was using. The watch does this with every open application. It reverts back to the watch screen after a few seconds. It also does this while using the navigation app which makes navigation absolutely useless on this watch. The S health app would start on my watch but would not link and start the app on my phone. You cannot use google maps turn by turn navigation on this watch either. That alone was a show stopper for me. I returned the watch after one day of use and purchased a Huawei Watch. Spend a few extra dollars and believe me, you will be much, much happier with your purchase. OH, if it matters any I am a huge Samsung fan. I have owned 3 different Samsung Note phones and the original Samsung Gear S watch which is 1000 times more functional than this watch.

Defective?
October 6, 2015
I have the watch and none of this happens to mine. I already went on a couple of workouts with it and it works very well. It even let's me know when I am halfway through. It doesn't revert to the watch face unless I click the home button

Samsung lost me as a customer
By Greenmonkey4
I bought the gear S2 thinking I would have the FIDME app and would be able to talk on the watch like the rest of the gear watch line. It does not allow you to talk on the watch like the rest. I also opened the watch and noticed that the band attached to the watch had a defect on the latch part. Best Buy did not have anymore in stock in my area so I called samsung. I was told by Samsung you have to send in the entire watch to replace the band. It is easy to replace the band and I did with the extra band in the box. I called samsung to get the original band replaced, and they said instead of just sending them the band you have send the whole watch. It also took three days for them to tell me this. What a joke... Bad customer service and I am going back to my gear S.

Comments like this make me???

There is another version of the gear S2 that has 3G connection and a speaker that you can use to place calls and receive calls on your watch! This version does not have calling features and Samsung NEVER advertised so. Yes there is a phone app, you can use it to place calls but you have to make the calls on your phone. There is no way you could talk on the phone if there is no speaker to hear the other person... it just doesn't make sense.
So yes, it sounds more like you were uninformed and did not do your research before buying a product... and I'm sorry to hear about your defective strap. But, unfortunately, defective products, of all brands, exist!

How easy is it to see the display in direct sunlight?

How easy is it to see the display in direct sunlight?
Pretty easy, I have the brightness set at 6 or 7 out of 10 and I've never not been able to read my watch screen in direct sunlight! Hope this helps

How close does your phone need to be?

Can I walk around the house with my watch on and not carry my phone, yet still get the notifications and calls?
Depends how big your house is haha. But the watch has an option to connect to wifi if it lost connectivity with the phone. This allows it to get notification. HOWEVER, this watch does not let you make calls. You can only place the calls, but you have to use your phone to talk!! (there is no speaker on the watch). I am 99% sure that the 3G version of the watch, which is coming soon, will have a speaker and allow you to call. So I'd wait for that
