I love this film so much that I saw it 7 times in the theater and I've watched it 3 times since getting the Blu Ray. Showed it to family that didn't get to see it on the big screen and they loved it too! John Carter was very unfairly treated and not marketed properly, which really hurt its US box office. It's a shame that people didn't go give it a chance in the theater because thousands of fans are fighting for it and want sequels now. Daily I hear from new fans who finally watched it on disk and love it too! It's a timeless story, wonderfully acted, with humor and amazing visuals! I hope you'll give it a chance!
What's great about it: Story, effects score, and performances
What's not so great: Film title missing "of Mars" and cover image
I absolutely love John Carter! It has been compared to other films but for me the movie experience was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. The story John Carter is based on is now 100 years old and it has inspired all of the most popular, well-known stories everyone knows and loves, like Star Wars, Avatar, Superman, Flash Gordon, I could go on and on. And yet, even though it has inspired so many things, it feels not quite like any of them. What the film accomplishes for me is a sense of wonderment, joy, and emotion. I saw the film 7 times in the theater and loved it more every time I saw it. I'm so impressed with the DVD extras and I know I'll enjoy watching the film with family and friends for years to come. My hope is that it will achieve cult classic status and that millions who didn't give the film a chance in theaters will realize how wonderful it is at home.
What's great about it: Great heart, smart story, gorgeous effects, endearing world
What's not so great: John Carter deserved much better reception than it got. Also, the DVD cover could have been better.
