VERY SCARY AND IT CAN REALLY HAPPEN!

Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13, though opposites in personality, are best friends. Megan carries the front of being the most popular girl in school, but this masks a lifestyle of hard partying, drugs, alcohol. Amy, unpopular and socially awkward, clings to her relationship with Megan as a lifeline to social acceptance. Together, these two young girls forge a deep friendship based on their mutual needs. The two girls regularly communicate by web chat cameras or cell phone, and even meet boys online. As Megan seeks friends who are different from her usual posse of hanger-ons, she is introduced by a friend online to a 17 year-old boy named Josh in a chat room. Megan and Josh bond quickly, leaving Amy feeling a bit left out. One day, Megan goes to meet Josh in person, and she is never seen again. Amy launches into a concentrated effort to find her friend. As the media swirls around the story of Megan's disappearance, Amy discovers the horrifying truth about what happened to her friend. Based on research into seven actual cases of child abduction, MEGAN IS MISSING is an uncompromising, gut-wrenching view of the world children live in today. Harrowing in its realism, the film uses only fact-based incidences to depict the lives of ordinary kids walking in the midst of extraordinary evil.

Giant-size spiders have returned to the screen in Eight Legged Freaks and now are making their present known on this DVD. Overall, this homage to the monster flicks of the 1950s, is a fun but rather insignificant film, but a fine DVD. Image quality is perfect. The 2.35:1 anamorphic picture is strong in every respect. Colors are translated as good as a new theatrical print while the darker scenes show no signs of artifacts or breakdown. Detail is equally solid. Warner has done a fine job with this transfer. The sound, a 5.1 English Dolby Digital track, doesn't fare quite as well. The audio is presented in the front speakers, with some separation at times, but generally quite static in the middle. The surrounds are never utilized in any significant way, which seems unusual not only for the type of film it is, but for it being a relatively large budget, recent title. So much more could have been done with the auditory elements. On the other had, there are no complaints about the extra material on this disc. The main supplement would have to be a screen specific commentary from director and co-writer Ellory Elkayem, producer Dean Delvin, and costars David Arquette and Rick Overton. The mood on this track is light, as all the participants join in and have a good time recalling their experiences. Also included is just over 13 minutes of deleted scenes and an alternate ending, none of which would have added to the film, but are a nice inclusion here. A real plus with this disc is Elkayem's clever short film, Larger Than Life, his tribute to B grade bug movies, that got him the job for this film. Finally, along with a text essay on the history of mutant bugs in movies, are a few filmographies, some DVD ROM content and the theatrical trailer. Though it's safe to say this film will win any awards, if you like your horror and humor mixed together (along with a fine DVD), you really couldn't go wrong here.

SHARON TATE'S MOST FAMOUS FILM!!!
on January 20, 2015
Posted by: gusvelasco94
Anne Welles, a bright, brash young New England college grad leaves her Peyton Place-ish small town and heads for Broadway, where she hopes to find an exciting job and sophisticated men. During her misadventures in Manhattan and, later, Hollywood, she shares experiences with two other young hopefuls: Jennifer North(Sharon Tate), a statuesque, Monroe-ish actress who wants to be accepted as a human being, but is regarded as a only beauty on the outside and good for nothing more than looks by all the men she meets, and Neely O'Hara, a talented young actress who's accused of using devious means by a great older star (Helen Lawson) to reach the top, pulling an "All About Eve"-type deception in order to steal a good role away from her.

Roman Polanski's Fearless Vampire Killers is a film that really needs to be seen widescreen to be fully appreciated, which you can now do with this solid release from Warner Bros. While people can debate its curious use of slapstick until the cows come home, there is no doubt that it is a gorgeously shot flick that ranks up there alongside Hammer's most accomplished '60s horror outings. This disc comes packed with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen image that certainly does show off the camerawork and extravagant sets well, though, sadly, it's plagued by film elements that weren't corrected in the transfer. The mono Dolby Digital track on the other hand, might lose points for home theater inadequacy, but its mix is just fine otherwise. Extras include the theatrical trailer and a vintage clip, "Fearless Vampire Killers: Vampires 101," that must have played in some theaters upon the film's release. Just like the film, it's a silly setup where a professor of some sort (Max Wall) takes you through the vampire mythos and sets the audience up for the movie. Missing is the animated prologue from the American version -- and don't look for any commentaries or galleries of any sort. Still, the disc is worthy of recommendation, if only to be able to see the film on DVD the way it was meant to be seen.

The dreams of innocent children once again fall victim to everyone's favorite bogeyman Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. New Line has done a good job on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Also included on this disc is a pan-and-scan version of the film. The colors in the image tend to look very well saturated with only a small amount of bleeding in a few scenes. This is generally a very solid transfer with even flesh tones and dark black levels. The audio is presented in a newly remixed 5.1 soundtrack (as well as the original 2.0 soundtrack). This new mix is very good with some excellent surround sounds filtering out through both the front and rear speakers. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are free of any excessive distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English captions. The only extra features available on this edition of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master are some cast and crew bios, the original theatrical trailer, and some DVD-ROM content. While the video and audio portions of the disc are good, the box set of all seven films is recommended for true fans.

Freddy Krueger returns (sans creator Wes Craven) for more terror in A Nightmare on Elm Street, Pt. 2: Freddy's Revenge. New Line has done a great job on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. While there are a few areas that tend to look slightly murky, overall this is an excellent transfer with vibrant colors and well-saturated black levels. Also included on this disc is a pan-and-scan version of the film. The audio is presented in a newly remixed 5.1 soundtrack (as well as the original 2.0 soundtrack). This new mix is good, even if the source materials are a bit dated. Surround usage is present in many different scenes through both the front and rear speakers. Except for some harshness in the dialogue, this mix is free of excessive distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English captions. The only extra features available on this edition of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Pt. 2: Freddy's Revenge are some cast and crew bios, the original theatrical trailer, and some DVD-ROM content. While this disc has some nice video and audio portions, the box set of all seven films is recommended for the full effect.
