I don't normally take time to review peripherals, but this drive exceeded expectations. I have a MacBook Pro with a USB 2.0 port (slow) and a Thunderbolt port (very fast), and needed to make a backup image of my drive that was starting to fail that could not be repaired via Mac OS X Disk Utility. I had recently imaged the drive of a MacBook Air to a new SSD drive, and that took about 8 hours via USB 2.0 for 250 GB - I didn't have 8 to 12 hours to wait for another slow drive image to be made. Using the Thunderbolt port on my Mac, I was able to make a compressed disk image of my 500 GB drive in just a few hours. If you need a very fast, portable drive and have Thunderbolt or USB 3.0, this is a great drive.
