XenQ's Reviews

Dark times have come to Thedas — monstrous dragons cast ominous shadows from above while chaos erupts all around you. What was once a land of peace and happiness is now ripped apart by conflict as the Mages wage bloody battle against their oppressors, the Templars. Someone must restore order to Thedas and put an end to those who seek to destroy the land. It's time to lead the Inquisition — a band of legendary heroes and the only hope of Thedas — and wage a war to end this reign of terror.Dragon Age: Inquisition throws you into the building unrest in Thedas and challenges you and your band of comrades to restore peace to the land. Plunge into the conflict as you become an Inquisitor, lead your companions through a chaotic land and battle massive creatures. Build friendships and rivalries as you engage with a vast group of characters and develop dynamic relationships. Enter a vibrant open world and explore secret caves, expansive plains and rocky coasts and enjoy arresting visual realism, thanks to Frostbite 3. Wield the power to forge your own destiny and that of Thedas itself as your choices and actions influence story outcome and physical aspects of your world. Take control of your gameplay experience by customizing the appearance and abilities of your Inquisitor, companions, outposts and strongholds. Decimate opponents by crafting your forces and developing a unique style of combat. Enhance your gameplay with this Deluxe Edition, which includes a variety of digital content. Demonstrate the might of your rule on the Skyhold Throne, a seat of power crafted from an ancient dragon skull. Ride across Thedas atop a horned Red Hart Halla, or inspire fear as you mount the Bog Unicorn, previously owned by an evil marauder. Make yourself even more fearsome in combat with Flames of the Inquisition gear — wield multiclass weapons, including staffs, daggers, greatswords and war hammers, outfit yourself in Inquisition Armor to deflect the vicious blows of your enemies and ride into battle on a powerful armored steed. Extend the thrill of the game with the digital soundtrack that lets you enjoy the sounds of Thedas wherever you go, and access Dragon Age Multiplayer Deluxe Edition chests. The dangers are many on this perilous campaign — do you have what it takes to deliver Thedas from the grip of destruction?

Graphics, QA, and Identity
First, let me say I am not a graphics junkie and would've been OK with Dragon Age:Origin or Dragon Age 2 art style, textures, lighting, and render distance and load times, but... this.. this is hideous. I challenge you to find one scene on the 360 which does not suffer from poor render distance (any part of an object which is more than six inches from the camera has an extraordinarily low resolution or does not exist)and harsh lighting (you have the equivalent of an on/off switch in terms of lighting).
The game also feels like there is no heart or identity (which the 360 can't fix). At times it feels like a bad Skyrim ripoff with its pointless quests and 'open-ended' world. Linear storytelling isn't necessarily a bad thing, producers.

For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out. Featuring cutting-edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behavior system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story, Max Payne 3 is a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience from Rockstar Games. In addition to an expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also be the first entry in the series to introduce a thorough and engrossing multiplayer experience. Max Payne 3 multiplayer brings the same cinematic feel, fluid gunplay and sense of movement of the single-player game into the realm of online multiplayer. Using the fiction and signature gameplay elements of the Max Payne universe, Max Payne 3 features a wide range of new and traditional multiplayer modes that play on the themes of paranoia, betrayal and heroism, all delivered with the same epic visual style of the single-player game.

Good for PC if you enjoy 80s cop dramas

I played Max Payne obsessively for PC and a little on the PS2. While the controls were not ideal for console, the devs made it work. The accuracy was forgiving(even in free mode) and, this is key, the reticle is always visible.
The key feature that breaks the game is the modern action movie feeling with 80s cop drama dialogue (which you'll have to endure over and over since you cannot skip cutscenes and will die easily). At least there's no slow-motion dream sequences =/
What's great about it: Graphics/Sound w/ 5/7.1 system
What's not so great: Made for PC, feels like a port and dialogue

Solid Gameplay and Create-a-Player

There are two aspects of the 2K series that stand-out when compared to the EA franchises.
The controls are highly advanced, but not intuitive. You will spend a season alone establishing muscle memory on where to move each analog stick and trigger in relation to the camera. It's worth it.
The second aspect is the create-a-player career mode. I was so impressed with how 2K immersed you in this world. You not only have a fully customizable face/body, but you go through interviews, post-game conferences, manage your money, and drills to improve performance.
Highly recommended if you're looking for something more than a quick-play.
What's great about it: Innovative Create-a-Player
What's not so great: Soundtrack, Coach Feedback

It seems like there could've been more special features for the blu-ray combo that encompasses the whole series. I popped in the disc and was given options to see more about: production (4 - 5 listed#, characters #3 listed), and batmobile.

There's a reason why the soundtrack is just as expensive: it's the best part. Highly recommend it; the soundtrack that is.
What's great about it: OST, Visuals

One of the battery packs lasts for about half an hour off full charge, but it looks like this is not a widespread issue. If it happens to you, just bring in for exchange and enjoy.
