Best quality 4K for the size and price
on September 1, 2016

I originally had the 79" Sony from 2014 and was plagued with patchy backlighting issues, so when I saw this full-array backlit model I upgraded in a heartbeat and never looked back. The colors and contrast level are off the charts thanks to HDR and the back vs. edge-lighting. Even now, stacking it up against the new Z9 series I still think the 940D is your best bang for the buck. My only issue is I despise the remote. No individual buttons - just raised bumps that are very imprecise - especially around the D-pad, so navigating Netflix in the dark is a terrible experience. Definitely needs backlighting or real buttons.

Battle friends and foes with the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro console. Its 1TB capacity lets you store plenty of games without an external hard drive, and the dual-shock controller improves your hands-on gaming experience. See enemies in clear, vibrant detail with the included HDMI cable of the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro console.

4 Blu-ray not a deal breaker
By Tonyboy61967
Honestly I don't get why poeple are making a huge about the ps4 pro not having a 4k bluray. Who still buys the physical disc now in days? They are pretty much obsolete, such as when the cassettes got overshadowed by bluray. Sony is aiming for the future. In the future NO ONE is going to have discs, everything is going to be in a digital library. The last time I ever bought a bluray disc was in 2011. I asked all my friends, some average people, some more tec oriented, and none of them could remember the last time they bought a blurray. Now we have services such as netflix, Hulu, youtube, etc.(and probably a lot more in the future) that provide 4k quality with tons of diversity and at the fraction of the cost of bluray discs.
disc required for TRUE 4K
September 10, 2016
You and your friends might not be buying discs anymore but you are also not seeing TRUE 4K. Netflix and every other streaming service is compressing their stream to some degree so you will NEVER get the same quality picture that you will from a UDH disc. Plus - most major movies don't even come to Netflix anymore. Their 4K selection has been stagnant for almost a year now - unless you like Adam Sandler movies and stand-up comedy. PS4 Pro not having a 4K disc player is a huge oversight that will cost them dearly - if not now, certainly in 2017.

An Honest and Sincere Review Before you Buy!
By Oldboy
Okay so first thing is first, I have tried the Vibe, the oculus rift and the Samsung S6 Edge with VR. This one would be in last place. Don't get me wrong it is very fun and comfortable but we have all seen the "Youtube" reviews and game play but honestly it is not as nice as it seems. Graphics look like 480p on a CRT monitor. If you don't believe me try it out yourself. When I let my wife play and I saw the game play on my TV it looks awesome, very sharp and clear. The headset looks 480p at best. Again I did have fun and I even bought four launch games. So far I have played all the VR World games and the VR demos which I suggest you play first before buying any games. So I just want you to be aware that if you are expecting 1080p or even 720p resolution you will be disappointed. This is why I cannot give it 5 stars. I know I have the ability to return if I am not happy and I am not. I will keep it and see how the PS 4 Pro improves this. But honestly, I think this will be just like the Xbox Kinect and die off soon if the resolution does not improve. Again this is my opinion just thought you all would like to read an honest review before you buy. It has been fun so far but I am not yet convinced it was worth $499. Only time will tell. I plan to update this after the PS4 Pro releases which I have preorder as well. Try a demo first before you buy so that if you are indecisive you can finally see if it is worth it.
Last plce in specs but first place in FUN!

Agreed that the PSVR is weak on paper - its actually a single 1920x1080p screen so each eye gets 960x1080. Sony is doing a few tricks to make this look better than the PC VR options, mostly with 120hz so its super smooth and no motion sickness. BATMAN VR is a prime example of next-gen graphics being used in VR. Keep in mind that what spectators see on the TV (via the splitter) is very low resolution - about half the quality of what the wearer sees.

Experience immersive entertainment options with this Sony 4K Blu-ray player. Its Ultra HD resolution provides exceptionally detailed screen images with increased brightness and more realistic color, and its support of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X provides cinema-quality sound. This Sony 4K Blu-ray player supports high-resolution audio formats for more accurate music reproduction.

Worth the wait
By Sinjin
After a poor experience with Samsung and still no Atmos support on Xbox One I was happy to find that the Sony X800 is virtually flawless for my needs - those being playing 4K uHD discs and the occasional 1080p BD. Don't really care about apps. My Sony 940D has all those already.
As a disc player the setup was easy, load times are fast and there is a nice resume feature. Was startled the first time the entire front flipped down for a 5" tray. Also - ATMOS listeners will need to toggle a certain setting (forget the name but it's 3rd one down list) to send pure bitstream for Atmos playback. Took me 40 mins to figure that one out. Odd that player would ship with Atmos defaulted to disabled.
Watched a dozen movies already; Batman, Hunger Games, Bourne, Suicide Squad, San Andreas, Magnificent 7, Star Trek(s) and they ALL look incredible and sound amazing.
GREAT player at a very fair price. Xbox offers gaming for same money but I've never watched a movie on Xbox that didn't have skipping and/or lip-sync issues and still no Atmos till April update.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Upconverting follow-up
March 14, 2017
I hadn't watched any normal BD's in my original review but since then I've watched several including; Dr. Strange, Ghost Busters 3D, Moana, Captain America Civil War, and TRON (the new one). I'm not sure what voodoo Sony is using but these non-4K movies look exponentially better that they EVER did on my PS4. Apparently upconverting at the player level is much better than the X1 chip in my 75x940D. Just another great reason to invest in the X800.

UBP-X800

Purchased this to replace my Samsung 8500 and to pair with my X940D Sony. I am totally happy with this unit. The worst part for me with the Samsung was that terrible remote that came with the 8500. Couldn't ask for much more for $300.00. Just wish they had a better selection for the 2 free movies.

at least they weren't forcing Creed on you like Philips bundle :-) But yes, their selection was disappointing. At least you get a better selection in the follow-up offer where you can pick movies for 60% off.

Will these be stocked on store on October 13th? If so will there be a limited amount? If thats the case home many will be stocked in store?

No exact numbers but my store has more than 5 of each sku two days after launch. Interest is high but not a lot of people with $500 to drop on a peripheral.

In the bundle package does it come with a camera stand?

Yes- I has the same flat bendable stand that the square camera did. Works great!

Do you. Have to buy seprete games for the PlayStation vr. Or will it work with games you already own. Thanks

You can play any game or watch any HDMI content passing through the box in cinema mode but you will need a VR-supported game to take full advantage of the hardware.

Which 3D glasses do I need for xbr75x940d

Any Active 3D glasses should work but I can confirm firsthand that the Sony 500A glasses are awesome.

Does at least one of the Sony XBR 940D's HDMI inputs/outputs support ARC(audio return channel)? If so does it support DTS HD master and Dolby Atmos etc? Also are all the HDMI inputs 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 compliant?

Yes to all those questions. HDMI 4 is your ARC input.

Does this do HDR10 and/or Dolby Vision? Is this a 10 bit?

It is 10bit and it is HDR10 but no Dolby Vision. There are only 2-3 titles that even support Dolby Vision and they are on Vudu. Dolby Vision is very niche and likely to vanish (imo).

I cannot turn off 3D display when watching 3D content while on HBO on demand. The 3d settings box on the right side of the Tv stays. I have a Sony 75 inch XBR75X940D. When I exit the menu, it doesnt save the settings.

I had similar issue with Bluetooth setting not wanting to stick. Cold-boot the TV. Press and hold power button on remote for 5+ seconds to turn TV OFF. You'll know you got a good reboot if you see swirling color dots and the Sony logo. Android seems really weird about it's settings and smart apps. I have to cold boot about once a week it seems to clear up little things like Netflix issues, etc.
