Unbelievable Picture and Colors, Impressed !

Connected to the Internet:Yes
The picture quality on 1080i, 4K (on Netflix) and Blu-Ray movies are phenomenal ! Seeing is believing. It up scales every program you throw at it. Still good at 720p (ESPN), but falls off on shows still on 480p on Direct TV. Prior to buying this Sony XBR-65X850B, I compared it with a comparable TV from Samsung, let me tell you, it was night and day. I was sold on the Sony. Don't forget to go to your Direct TV settings to check off all the TV Resolutions from (480i to 1080p#. I forgot that at first and thought the TV may have been defective because of the poor picture quality, but the settings were set for a previous TV I had replaced that only viewed 480i. It takes a while to tweak the settings to your liking, I urge you to play around with all the settings. The TV does preview the settings prior to accepting the changes. Because I used a Z-Line Merako Highboy TV furniture, I moved the legs to the middle section of the TV. I went with the furniture because I did not want to wall mount the TV. The 3d is excellent and the simulated 3d is surprisingly pretty good as well. Comes with 2 passive 3d glasses. It comes with 5 free downloadable HDX movies on the Sony app. #15 choices). I signed up with the month free subscription with Netflix, but to get the 4K and HD features and movies, you have to select the 4 person top tier plan. The plan that cost $7.99 per month doesn't include 4K or HD movies. Check with your internet speeds, my Cox Cable has 100mbps speeds and has no problems streaming movies. The 4K content is limited, but Netflix, Direct TV, Amazon Prime have plans to expand their 4K content by the end of the year. At 3 grand, the TV isn't cheap, but I believe they are now on their way down in price. DO not buy the service contract, it comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. If the TV is a lemon, it will fail within its warranty period. TV's now are more reliable than ever. Besides in 3 to 5 years you'll want to upgrade TV's anyways. They make more profit on extended warranties than selling you a new TV. Save your money and buy yourself a 3d up scaling 4K Blu-ray player instead. I did use Audioquest 1M chocolate HDMI cables for the Direct TV box and Blu-Ray DVD player because I want the best sound possible going through my Onkyo receiver. For the TV I used the Monster Ultimate Black Platinum HDMI 8ft cable. I do believe in quality HDMI cables, so after spending over $3000.00 on a 4K TV, spending another $300.00 on HDMI cables was justified.
Internet content most enjoyed: Netflix
What's great about it: The picture quality on 1080i or Blu-Ray movies.
What's not so great: It takes a while to calibrate screen to your liking. Lots of trial and error.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bowers & Wilkins HTM62 Center

Was looking for a TV furniture that can accommodate our XBR-65X850B Sony television. The B&W center speaker fit perfectly in the cabinet and the Energy bookshelf speakers fit behind the glass doors. Where this speaker shines is during movies. Pricey center speaker, but well worth it.
What's great about it: Fits perfectly in a Z-Line Merako Highboy furniture. Sounds great !
What's not so great: Pegs on screen cover can easily break, so be careful when removing screen cover. Expensive.

Quality built, sturdy and great looking furniture.

This TV stand can accommodate my Sony XBR-65X850B on the dark tinted glass top. (It can support up to 100lbs) I was looking for something that had height and yet fit in the alcove in the living room as shown in the photos. I didn't want to hang the TV so this Z-Line furniture fit the bill. I was able to fit a B&W HTM62 center speaker perfectly, Energy bookshelf speakers, Onkyo TX-NR828 receiver, Sony DVD player and the Direct TV box with no problems. All I do is leave the glass doors open when I want to use the speakers. I'm pleased with my purchase. Measure all your speakers and equipment to make sure it will fit in the Z-Line Merako Highboy.
What's great about it: It's ideal size and height. Lots of adjustable shelves.
What's not so great: Wheels would've been nice, to help move it around.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best of Both Worlds

You may wonder what I mean about "easy on the eyes"? Well, we never thought selecting a new big screen TV would be so difficult! Our last one was bought in 2006, a Sony rear projection screen TV, 60". We loved it! But when it came to choosing a new one, the 4K seems to be the thing of the future, so we wanted to be ahead rather than behind.
First, we were knocked out by the Samsung 4K, the clarity of the picture, so we chose that one, same price as the Sony 4K. But the movies, all movies, looked ridiculous. Their technology changes the look of a real movie, converting it to looking like it was shot in video. And the overly sharp clarity on any channel really tired our eyes to the point where we couldn't watch for very long. That is not what we wanted.
Next, we were "sure" the right choice was the new SHARP Q+ because it didn't overdo the movies, and we thought the regular TV would be great. Well, it wasn't. The regular TV output tried hard to make it look sharp, but instead on the local channels, especially on the newscasts, the reporters' eyes had these weird white spots on their eyes, which glistened like vampire eyes! It was disconcerting, and again, hurt the eyes. And tired our eyes from "trying" to watch. That is NOT what anyone wants in a big screen TV!
Finally, we got a really good demo with our BluRay movie we took to the store (something I highly recommend everyone do when buying a TV nowadays), and watched their feed first, then watched part of our movie we had seen at the theater. The SONY WINS!!!! Hands down! The live feed here at the house is gorgeous, and the movies look great! Wow, the best of both worlds, finally!!!
The COLORS on the Sony are just breathtaking, the sharpness is as good as one could hope for, but DOES NOT TIRE OUR EYES! We stayed up very late last night, just going from one show and channel (we have Dish) to another, to Netflix, to local TV, just to see how beautiful everything looks! And our eyes were just fine.
We also read that some people think the sound on these flat screens lacks quality. However, we are very picky (as you can see) about the sound as well as the picture, but find the regular TV sound to be quite adequate for most channels. We also already have our surround sound system from years ago, and just switch that on when the situation calls for it. You cannot expect surround sound out of two speakers built into a flat screen. We also bought the BluRay player that plays 4K to go with it. As well as the Geek Squad protection, even though Sony gives 18 months on this model. It costs just $14/month when you break down the 5 year protection plan. That is worth the peace of mind, and Best Buy's protection covers everything, not just certain parts.
Conclusion: Buy Sony. They know how to please the viewing public. Their technology is the best. And this makes our third Sony Bravia.
The Best (Buy) part? Just got an email today on special sales at Best Buy. Our Sony 4K JUST WENT ON SALE! Again! We claimed our savings, since we had purchased ours just a few days ago. $300, not bad. Thanks, Sony and Best Buy!! And the fine sales people at Best Buy! You guys are why we come back, and why our pocketbook is less than it was.

Went online at the Sony Extended Warranty website and you can purchase the "Protection Plus" up until the end of the warranty period for $269.99 for 5 years (Technically 4 years excluding the 1 year they give you now.) Any Sony TV $2500-$3000. And Best Buys matches Amazon for their price of $2998.00 for the exact same TV, just saying.

Just saw the Sony Protection Plus at Sony has the 5 year warranty for $269.99 (technically 4 years less the 1 year you get already with the TV). Purchase Cost $2500.01 - $3000.00. You don't have to purchase up until the end of the 1 year warranty. A website competitor has the same TV for $2998.00.
