Grill and brown food to tasty perfection all-year-round with virtually no smoke thanks to the Philips Smoke-less Indoor BBQ Grill. Advanced infrared technology and special reflectors guide heat to the grid for delicious, evenly grilled food. The drip tray underneath remains cool so there is up to 80% less smoke and minimal splattering when cooking.

Better than an easy bake oven
on July 28, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
It is so strange to grill inside over a bright warm light, almost like a kids easy bake oven or something. However, it works really well. It only takes a matter of minutes to get the griddle searing hot, like a regular grill, and food cooks just as well as a grill with easy clean up. Though the flavor is not the same as cooking over gas or charcoal, I feel that this gave the true flavor of the food. So far the food has been juicy and held the full flavor of the marinade. There was a little smoke, and you do get some grease splatter on fatty meats, but nothing as bad as pan cooking. The entire device is easy to wipe down and the messiest parts are dishwasher safe. Though it is not as big as a typical grill, I can’t imagine where I would put it if it was, it is big enough to cook a decent meal and small enough to leave space on my stove.
I’ve never used a grill like this before, but compared to those smaller grill like devices that can only hold one patty at a time and claim to be healthier, I feel this is a better option. This is more like a grill, cooks at about the same rate as a grill at mid heat level, drips the fat into a tray that you can throw in the dishwasher later and has a decent surface area. I do wish they had a different temperature option though.

Best VR if you have room to spare.
on July 6, 2017

The HTC Vive is my latest splurge in VR as I have the Gear VR, PlayStation VR, and Oculus Rift already. I can say without a doubt that getting any of them is absolutely worth it, it just depends on what you are willing to spend and what you are looking for.
The HTC Vive has the largest room-scale of any of the other current systems. There are some games that take full advantage of this and really add to the immersion. The Vive is also the easiest to set up and tear down in just about any location compared to the other tethered systems. You only need power for the lightboxes and the connection box has a separate power supply with HDMI and one USB needed from the PC. The cable is also long enough to allow for a lot of moving around.
Steam is the primary system for games and there is a huge selection of material. I now have over 100 games/applications/demos without making an additional purchase and some games have multiple mini-games that makes it feel like even more. However, some of those will surely disappoint you when you try them out, but worth at least a look. I have had more issues with games between Viveport and Steam than I have with others, requiring an occasional reboot of the PC. However, the Vive and Steam by default allow for more PC interaction and has an external camera to allow for some real world interaction with the headset still on.
This is the first generation of this style of VR and there is plenty of room for improvement. Some things I don’t like compared to the other systems are not necessarily something that would prevent me from recommending the Vive, just little quirks in comparison to the other major VR providers.
I really do not like the default head harness that comes with the Vive. The side straps are easy enough to adjust, but the top one is under the cables making it difficult to get a good fit. Switching between my big head and my kids little heads gets frustrating. This headset also does not come with built on headphones like the new deluxe audio strap or the Oculus Rift. However, it does come with earbuds and you can use any headset you want, like I enjoy my over-the-ear headphones instead of an on-the-ear set, so it is a toss-up.
The eye lenses on the Vive have noticeable ridges in them compared to others. Though it does not affect the normal view of playing, you can really notice them when there is light glare of something bright on a dark background. Though the glare is similar on others, you just don’t notice ridges on them.
The controllers for the Vive are big and a bit clunky. Though they work and only take a minute to get used to, I feel that I lose a little bit of immersion with them, especially when they show as controllers and not hands in many games as compared to the Oculus Touch. Some games take advantage of the touch pads and essentially convert it into 4 additional buttons, but most just make it as one big button. The controllers disappoint me as they don’t feel natural and in some games your holding the wrong one in the wrong hand and you won’t know this till in the game. However, if you are just swinging a sword, they feel perfect.
As I stated in the beginning, it depends on what you are looking for. If you already have a PS4 and want to have a cheap way into immersive VR in gaming and family fun, PlayStation VR is your best bet, but just know it is not the best in tracking and you have to be directly in front of the one camera. The PC systems obviously require a powerful enough computer and the Oculus Rift with Touch is the next in price range. However, it requires a third camera (separate purchase) to get the best accuracy for small room-scale playing, but feels high quality with the natural feel of the Touch controllers. The Rift is more of a once installed, play in place type system. The Vive is by far the easiest to set up and I can easily take the Vive down and set it back up in another location with minimal effort. Other systems just seem a bit more finicky as they require cameras instead of light boxes and require some precise positioning to get the best effect. So, if you are like me and want a system that you can pack up and take to a friend’s party, the Vive and a laptop is the way to go.

Perfect fit
on July 6, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
Of all the current VR controllers, these are by far the best fitting controllers. They fit naturally in the respective hands and gestures in games are natural feeling. When introducing someone new to VR, these controllers are the easiest to explain as most people just pick up and go. It is a shame that these can't be interchangeable with other systems due to the varying technologies.
The one thing that aggravates me from time to time is the placement of the menu button. When in a really active game these buttons are easy to bump and mess everything up.
Something not particularly bad on the controllers, but on the game makers, is that some games automatically assume right hand dominance and you can't just switch controllers. Most games have an option to change hands, but with the other VR systems you can just change controllers.

Absolute must for 360° Room-scale
on July 6, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
Oculus now supports room-scale VR and is capable with the 2 cameras include with the Rift+Touch. However, to get the maximum coverage and least errors a third camera is required. The latest addition of the Oculus software will detect the third camera and guide you on room set-up. Even though it states USB 2.0 or greater, the supplied extension cable will force any USB 3.0 port down to 2.0 and slow the other ports on that USB hub down. So, it is recommended to keep the headset and two front cameras on USB 3.0 or greater and the third camera on a standard USB 2.0 port.

Not bad for the price
on July 6, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
Had these JLab Audio - JBuds Pro Wireless In-Ear Earbud Headphones been out a few years ago, I may have called them amazing. However, there are many brands of similar style headphones now and this one feels slightly aged with the large battery/button dangling down from the right ear. For casual use they are not bad, but for more active use the constant feeling that something is dangling and tapping my neck gets a bit irritating.
The sound quality is better than some other headphones in this price range, not bad, but not amazing. The battery life, is about 6 hours if playing music at max volume straight through. If you play a bit here and there with the headphones being on standby for calls and such, they last much longer.
There is an included clip to help with cable management and I found it rather essential. When loose the short cable would become unbalanced on my head and would grab when turning my head essentially pulling one earbud out. However, the clip also allows you to leave one earbud out without pulling on the other.
With a little trial and error, I was able to find a comfortable fit for the buds with the supplied pieces. I felt like without the fins though, the right earbud was always going to get pulled out from the battery box. The fins helped add a little weight distribution and actually made for a better fit over all.
For the price range though, these are decent little headphones.

Big device, little sound
on June 26, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
This Samsung 3-Channel Hi-Res soundbar provides crystal clear full spectrum audio with a variety of ways to connect. It has optical digital-in with included optical cable, 4K HDMI pass-through with Audio Return Channel (ARC) support, Bluetooth and WiFi capability. The remote is simple and pretty much a plastic version of the QLED TV remote. However, for the price and size of this soundbar, I really expected more.
At max volume, 100, it really wasn’t that loud and nowhere near the bass of an actual subwoofer. It certainly was not “earth-shattering” as their advertisement says. As a matter of fact, the built in speakers of the 55” Samsung Q7 were louder and had more bass. The graduation of volume from 50 to 100 was so low that it was hard to tell the difference in levels unless you jumped them rapidly. This soundbar looks to be made for the new Samsung TVs, with the brushed metal look and it has the exact same power cord with the ability to provide power to the TV with a separate purchased cord. Yet, if it isn’t better than the built in speakers, what is the point of having it?
I tried this on a different TV, which really would not have fit for it as it stands too high, but it too was not louder than the built in speaker. I also had issues with using the PlayStation 4 Pro, my only external 4K HDR device, with passing HDR through the soundbar. The video would just flicker until I turned HDR off on the TV, only having standard 4K enabled. I could not prove this is fault of the soundbar as I don’t have another device, but I confirmed the cables supported HDR directly with the TV and PS4 with no issues.
For a separate purchase, there are wireless rear speakers that can provide surround sound. With just the front bar, it does provide “room-filling” sound with a simulated surround effect without distortion. Yet the volume levels leave a lot to desire as any external noise could easily drown out the levels this soundbar puts out.
You can connect your devices via Bluetooth or WiFi using the Samsung Multiroom app. The Bluetooth connection worked just fine, but limited range as with any Bluetooth connection. The WiFi connection does provide for a greater range, however, I had multiple disconnects and had to go through the steps of finding the speaker several times. Even while playing music, I was still disappointed in the volume level, especially when I have a cheaper Bluetooth speaker that is louder with more bass.
In the end, I feel there are much better options at a lower cost and for the price you can get the other brands wireless rear speakers as well.

More speed than my ISP can handle
on May 25, 2017

Quick simple setup and all the power and bandwidth you need for a household full of gadgets. With a preset WiFi network on the router, you can configure the LINKSYS EA9300 MAX-STREAM AC4000 TRI-BAND WI-FI ROUTER with a smart phone, tablet or PC. The App’s user interface is simple and informative with basic features only a click away while the web browser allows for more complex configurations, such as DMZ, port forwarding and VLAN configurations. This router is physically heavier than other home routers, not a bad thing, but noticeable when setting it up. The range is also amazing as it sits on the first floor and have minimal lost between the basement and second floor. I have also mowed my acre of a yard around the house streaming music without any interruption.
I personally had an odd issue where I enabled parental controls and blocked a device listed as “network device” though later found out it was my Xbox One. Once it was identified, I disabled the parental controls but the Xbox was still blocked from the network. I manually reset the router and everything is now working as intended.
Regardless of that minor issue, everything has worked perfectly, to include fast resets after making configuration settings. With over 14 devices on my network, the only thing slowing me down is the speed of my internet service provider.

Hair drying with added ions
on May 22, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
from Elizabethtown, KY
The Panasonic - Nanoe Hair Dryer looks and feels like a professional salon hair dryer. It is slightly heavier than your standard generic hair dryer, but not by much. The nanoe outlet appears to work the same way as the ionizer on compressed air tools for electronics, though it is hard to tell. My daughter has been the primary user and she does claim that straightening her hair afterwards has been a bit easier, so I would say it is retaining moisture compared to her other dryer. The extra attachments also help make styling easier as you can direct the flow or use the diffuser to dry without blowing your hair everywhere. The speed and temperature controls are independent of each other, so you can have no heat but full speed.

Popping color and deep blacks, with caveats
on May 9, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
The Samsung Q7F QLED TV has some of the brightest and sharpest colors I have seen on a TV, with deep and true blacks (1). The design of the TV truly looks sleek from every side as they added a “Boundless 360° design”. Meaning the TV physically looks nice all the way around with hidden connections and thin cabling to present an “Invisible Connection” (2). The OneRemote feels nice, solid and not over cluttered with buttons as it allows for voice command entry and some control of other connected devices (3). Upon initial set-up, the Samsung Q7F recognized my Samsung S7 Edge phone and asked to use the Wi-Fi and Samsung account details from it instead having to manually enter them, showing just how smart this TV can be (4). The sound is also surprisingly loud and crisp with a bit of an ambient surround effect from the bottom facing speakers.
As for the caveats:
1) The colors do look amazing and the blacks look deep, so long as you are sitting directly in front of the TV. If you make any variation from the center you will instantly see the blacks to begin to fade. The harder the angle the more you will begin to see colors wash out. At about a 45° angle, which is about the position of the other chairs in my living room, the picture looks so pale that it is hard to distinguish between some colors. Their branding of “Q | Every View” falls short quickly. Depending on the angle also determines how much light bloom you will see on dark screens from the edge lighting. In certain scenes the colors can also be a bit too bright, as red and bright green tend to pop out more and create a bit of bloom of their own. A bit distracting in some scenes. Unless you enable ambient light detection while you are in a dark room setting, you end up blinded by the menu with extremely bright white background.
2) The “Boundless 360° design” really is nice with the ability to hide the power and one connect cable through the stand. The edges are pencil thin and the back has panels to hide the screws and connections. I truly like the One Connect box design as I like having access to change out cables without moving the TV. They meant for this TV to be out in the open. However, I had an issue during setup, at the bottom of the panel there is a thin strip of metal hiding some internal components. When you first unpack it there is a protective film that must be peeled off. For me, the sticker managed to grab ahold of that thin piece of metal and pull it all the way out. It is irreplaceable and really only noticeable if you are close to the TV or in a dark room as there are a few pixels of light under there. This thin strip appears to only be cosmetic, and Samsung Tech Support is working with me on it, but seems like a cheap fix for the design. The slim edge is also like an optical illusion as the panel gets thicker toward the bottom and middle, curved even on the flat screen, which is really noticeable when you have to use the custom spacers to wall mount it using a VESA 400x400 mount which require 43-45mm 8mm 1.25 screws, not included.
Another issue I have with the design is that the power cables that are supplied are both the same 6ft length. They advertise the “Invisible connection”, in which the One Connect optical cable truly helps provide. However, the power cable is so short that I hope you have an outlet directly behind your TV. Most of us would want to protect that with a surge protector as well, so breaking that invisible concept. The advertised picture does not appear to show the power cable as an outlet is not nearby.
3) The One Remote is simple, almost too simple. Though it looks and feels all high tech, the shiny little ring on the front only functions as a four-way direction pad. It looks as if it could work like a scroll wheel, but it doesn’t, and the remote is where I feel they went backwards with the design. The only way to navigate between letters on the screen, as you type in your username and password, is one click at a time, unless you connect a Bluetooth keyboard or phone app. As you click through each character there are recommended letters and sometimes the automatic check mark after so many characters to help save time. However, that also becomes an issue as you think you clicked left to go to the next character and what you really did is hit the check mark for completion, incorrect password and you’re starting all over again. Shoot, they don’t even let you go right on the smart menu to roll around to the left. Instead, you must scroll through the other 15 apps to get to the source menu. It has no magic pointers or motion controls and the voice commands won’t recognize your crazy email address name, just try it and see what it comes up with. The simplification also affects how other applications or devices are controlled as there’s no separate fast forward or skip function, though there are color buttons that help with some devices that use it and some apps just work with the directional control.
4) As for the smart features, I was surprised when the TV wanted to connect to my phone, especially because I thought I had it connected to the LAN, only to find my switch was turned off. Regardless, once accepted it pulled all the needed info from my phone saving time and headache from having to enter my username and passwords for both the Wi-Fi and Samsung account one letter at a time. I was also disappointed in the amount of apps available. They have the majority of the most common apps and a few off the wall. It just seemed that once connected to the internet there should have been a much wider selection, even if I wouldn’t use the majority of them. Something that I am sure will change over time.
Straight out of the box, my TV would not allow for screen share, either directly or through YouTube. After contacting tech support it was a simple unplugging of the One Connect box for one minute after having powered it on. Once plugged back in, it automatically came back on and screen share worked.
The installed media player has a “360° mode” button. Though I tried media through YouTube and my Network Attached Storage, neither seemed to enable that mode. Once I put the 360 media directly on a USB drive plugged into the One Connect box, it worked as intended. The remote directional pad, volume and channel buttons then become the controls for viewing but limit other functions, such as volume and fast forward/rewind. This is where a motion controlled controller would have really been an advantage.
The settings for this TV are rather limited. Certain settings can’t be disabled to reduce input lag for gaming, though there is a gaming mode which isn’t bad, auto power management is on or off and locked to 4 hours, and audio pass-through has to be changed depending on the format of audio being provided, not auto sensed. The four preset picture settings basically bright, dim or a yellow hue to everything, depending on which one you use. As for HDR content, it is automatically recognized on application media like Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube, but requires to be manually set for external devices under UHD color. You also wouldn’t know it is in HDR unless you go to change settings unlike some other TV’s that show when it is enabled.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice TV, especially if you mainly sit directly in front of it. If you are upgrading from an older TV to this one, you will be amazed. If coming from last year’s 4K models, as I am, maybe not so much. I just feel that instead of moving forward with new technology and design, they tried too hard with rebranding, adding “Q” and “Elite” to everything and didn’t advance anything forward, but took a step back. Samsung has been using “Quantum Dot” technology in their SUHD TVs for a few years now and to me this just looks like a gimmick to try and compete with OLED TVs.
*I received this TV as part of a promotion to provide my true and honest opinion, though not requested on this site, I couldn't resist to try and let more people know.

Surprisingly loud for personal use.
on May 1, 2017
Posted by: DavidJr
from Elizabethtown, KY
The Polk Boom Bit wearable speaker is not an all-day home Bluetooth speaker. It is for personal use where you could use a speaker phone, but need something louder and more convenient. A perfect example is for when riding a bicycle, you shouldn’t wear headphones, but you want to listen to music and have hands-free calling. Any activity that is about 3 hours and you need hands free but don’t want to block out all sound with headphones.
This little speaker is light and can clip on nearly anything up to 1/4 inch. Due to the way it is charged it reminds me of an old school thumb drive, though there is no storage on this device. The controls are simple, yet slightly annoying when you need to press both buttons at the same time for power. The + and - are the only buttons and they are far enough apart that you won’t accidently click the other one, but just far enough to make it a challenge to hold both for some functions.
The battery life, as with any device, is dependent on use and volume levels. At the lowest settings capable of still hearing sound it lasted 4.5 hours for me. Being in a cubicle style office it was loud enough for me to hear it clipped on my lanyard, but so low that no one else could hear it unless I was standing next to them. Audio quality is not bad, but about what I would expect from a tiny speaker.

Very unhappy about not getting the GearVR programs
By Sunshower
I tried many different ways to find out how to download the Gear VR programs by going to Samsung and Oculus online. All unsuccessful!!

Once you connect the Gear VR to the phone it starts a download for the software. There appears to be no other way to initiate the install. Once the Oculus software is installed, games and applications can be purchased through the application or from inside the store while wearing the device.

Need certain phones to use this.
By Donna
Wasn't told at time of purchase that certain phones were required to use this device. After purchase was when this was discovered. During this time we purchased a new home and was moving. After the move, tried to return the item because I didn't want to purchase a new phone. The only way the store would accept this return was to give me a gift card. I didn't want a gift card that I would most likely not use. Not happy with this policy at all. Also have made posts to FB in regards to your policy. I will not EVER enter your store again or make another purchase from you online. This is NOT how you treat a customer and expect more business from them.
It is labeled on the box and the site details
June 3, 2016
It says on the front and back of the box, "Compatible with Note5/S6 edge+/S6/S6 edge" and anywhere you look online it says it as well.

What phone are you using and is it up to date? The Samsung Gear VR is only compatible with Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and a software update from your carrier is required for S6 edge+ and Note 5.

Samsung Gear VR for Select Samsung Cell Phones: Mobile virtual reality is finally here. Watch movies in your own private cinema, be at the center of your favorite games, and socialize with friends in a virtual world all your own. The lightweight design and intuitive touchpad drop you right in the action and allow for hours of immersive entertainment.

Where can I demo this in stores, I live in Newport News VA.

It is typically next to the Samsung phone and tablet display.

This can be used without phone but with laptop through USB cable?

Are there any plans in the future to allow a second viewer to connect to the primary to see what the first viewer is seeing? It would be nice for husband and wife to be able to experience it at the same time.

You can essentially see what the VR user is viewing using screen mirror through Chromecast on a TV, screen share, or a separate app called MirrorOP onto a PC.

Can I use my LG phone instead of the Samsung on the virtual reality ?

No, the device is specifically built to work with Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, and Note 5. Although, you could technically use it as fancy Google cardboard headset if you can keep your phone attached to it with velcro or tape.
