Drops the network constantly

We replaced our modem with an Arris last year and have had great performance from it, so I was perfectly content with purchasing the Arris Surfboard AC1200 when it became clear our Belkin router had outlived it's usefulness. I can say that when it worked it worked really well with good speeds. Unfortunately it would go through periods where it would randomly (and persistently) drop the network. Sometimes it would only do it occasionally, and others it would be pointless to even try using wifi. After 6 months of hoping it would resolve itself, changing channels, several hours on the phone with Arris, many resets, and disabling the band steering option we finally decided to return the router. I have no idea why it does this, my guess is that it's a software issue that hasn't been resolved. I was greatly disappointed that we didn't have better service. We'll see how this Netgear Nighthawk works (so far so good) that we replaced it with. I had higher hopes for a Motorola brand. For anybody that assumes it was just interference we do not live in an apartment or townhouse. We live in a single family dwelling on an acre of land, so interference really should not have been a problem (though we changed channels anyway).

Good GPS for Price
on September 5, 2014

This GPS is a good little unit, reasonably user friendly, and overall is a fairly attractive little device. I purchased it online for $90, then kicked myself when I got to Best Buy to pick it up and they had the same device for about $20 cheaper on clearance. Lessons learned.
My Magellan Roadmate (which I really liked) had recently gone to the great recycle heap in the sky, and this Garmin was one of the few in my price range. It compares fairly nicely with the Magellan in most aspects, though I was hoping it would be a little less buggy. That doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately. I haven't been able to utilize all the features, but it doesn't seem to drop signal very often, and the routes seem to be reasonable.
The one thing that is particularly frustrating is the battery. I grabbed this GPS to find my doctor's office, but didn't bother to retrieve the charger from my work truck since I was only going to be on the road for about 20 minutes. It shut off after about 10. Needless to say, the battery in these units is junk.
Other than that it seems to work well. I've been able to download POIs from work onto it, which is nice. It gets confused in big intersections, cloverleafs, etc.... Also, it assumes you've turned before you actually have. This has caused some missed turns before I realized what was going on. I was expecting a better unit than the Magellan, but it turned out to be about the same.
What's great about it: Inexpensive and user friendly
What's not so great: Battery
I would recommend this to a friend!
