Better than ICONs
on January 9, 2015

These are Best Buy exclusive from Klipsch. Once upon a time they might be called Reference I. Best Buy simply calls them Reference speakers. They are the follow-on to the Klipsch ICON which I believe are also the follow-on to Synergy.
Like a bunch of folks here, bought these on Black Friday for half price. The horns sounded a little harsh in the store, but read some reviews here and for my Denon S900W receiver and took the plunge. With the Audyssey auto-setup on the Denon, these speakers are excellent. Highs are smooth, great mid range and even good base. They replace my Yamaha floor standing-rears that I moved to the family room. These copper wound 6.5-inch drivers have a great low freq capability. I have a 5.1 setup with these K-26F's in the back surrounds, K-28F's in front, K-25C for center, and my older Klipsch Synergy 10" 250w sub. Absolutely awesome with Blu-ray. And, when I set a stereo signal to DTS Neo 6 for FM or Internet Radio, they really put out some serious rock.
These are NOT the same as ICONs because they incorporate the copper wound into the drivers. ICONs only have aluminum. They are not as good as KF-26 II's #which are Reference 2's# but they serve my purpose at half the cost. The K-26F’s don’t put out as much sound as the K-28F’s, but work great as rear surrounds #I personally don’t like book shelf speakers on stands#. If you have a small room, they will more than suit you for Front standing speakers in your setup. Don't buy these at $349. Wait until next Black Friday and take the plunge.
My Best Buy number: 0324683460
I would recommend this to a friend!

01/12/15 Update
January 12, 2015
The horns still can be harsh at low volume on music, especially streaming from MP3 Internet Radio or Pandora. You can change to ProLogic II on your receiver vs DTS Neo 6 to help mellow out the highs. Or you can manually reduce the EQ high within your receiver/amp. If you manually reset EQ, you will lose any automatic setup that you have done with Audyssey or YAPo. Since I like the sound for DVR and Blu-Ray, I choose not to manually change EQ just for streaming MP3.

Cannot Be Repaired

One of the speakers tipped over and broke apart. It cannot be repaired. When I took it to the store, I was told that I would have to purchase a new speaker. I won't purchase Bose products again.

How did it tip over?
February 13, 2015
How did the speaker tip over? You know these do not come with stands. Those are the customer's responsibility. If they tip over or fall off the wall due to poor mounting fixture, that's on you. You shouldn't rate a product one star for what you break. There are protection plans out there that you can purchase that replace items that you break. Also, Bose supplies these speakers for individual purchase just for these instances. Many companies would force you to buy a whole set again. Next time rate based on quality of sound or manufacturer build/defect. You did not have a defect here.

Overhyped and overpriced
By Eric
First off, don't pay full price for this TV. It's $4000 as I write this, but it's been on sale for under $3000.
Let's get right to the meat of this TV—the picture quality. Most of the time, it's amazing. If you watch in a dim/dark room, the black parts of the screen turn off, so you get perfect blacks. Coming from LED TVs, this is a revolution. When I talk about the amazing picture quality, notice I said most of the time. These TVs show 0% black perfectly; unfortunately, they have a lot of trouble with near black.
Out of the box, the settings severely crush blacks, so you're not seeing all the shadow detail you should. This is just my opinion, but it seems that LG sets them up this way to hide all the panel's flaws that occur at these low levels. With a few tweaks (like raising gamma to 2.2) shadow detail is acceptable. However, there is a much bigger issue called vignetting, where the edges of the screen show "black flames." (see attached photo).
Vignetting was a known problem with the 2015 models, and even though many reviewers said it was fixed: it's not. I went through two of these OLEDs and finally gave up because they both had vignetting that was serious enough for me to notice in movies.
So while the picture can be amazing, if you're picky, you'll likely find some issues (unless you're lucky enough to win the panel lottery). Despite what anyone tells you, there are still serious flaws with OLED. This is unacceptable for a TV in this price range.

Me too

I also have vignetting, where the edges of the screen show "black flames." On my 65 inch with a 4K Bluray movie playing, the black line below the movie looks like the Northern Lights. Very distracting. I can get some of it to go away if I go to HDR Vivid, but then I lose the shades of grey in the main movie display...another problem that has been discussed on this forum.
I also have to say I don't understand why you received 4 "unhelpful" comment votes. I received some as well. I guess when you tell the truth, you tend to get negative splash back. Weird.

Great contrast, but needs professional calibration
By Pavelow
Been waiting on OLED's to drop in price for a long time. Finally, below the $3k mark I purchased. So after one month's ownership here's what I think so far.
The good: Contrast is awesome, so much so, I have to turn it down to get subtle shades of greys on dark suits and uniforms. Off angle viewing is superb, no loss of color or contrast for the people sitting on the side of my living room...FINALLY! The Web OS3 is pretty nice, once you figure it out. I easily set up wireless connection and added my Netflix and Amazon profiles. And, played UHD 4K content from Amazon without a hitch. Colors pop in HDR, but they are far from true colors. With a thousand possible settings you can go online, get some published settings and tweak the gamma, white and color settings available in each mode. I've only changed those in the "Standard Dark Room" settings. Blacks are so black I had to turn up some of the white levels.
Now for the not so good: So, this TV definitely needs a professional calibration as one Best Buy employee has indicated on this site. In addition, other issues remain. Artifacts will develop during dark scenes either in Blu-ray or on DVR. This TV has a pronounced rainbow effect (typical for LCDs) that I haven't seen since my 2004 Mits DLP HD TV. And the rainbows show up in sky views and menus especially. I also found (like my old Mits) there is a little Red push in color without changing settings. The LG OLED 4K UHD does a poor job of displaying 480p and 1080i based on my Direct TV DVR. Especially poor when news channels show their story clips in Standard Def. Huge artifacts and broken lines show up even on still pictures on these news channels. And, colors change dramatically based on the source even on a single channel, i.e. from the HD show to the commercial to the news caster set. There's no way to keep up. So, it took a while to find a compromise, but it will never be able to provide a good picture for SD no matter what the source (to include and especially over the air SD TV channels). You have to give the OLED the best source possible to begin with. And, finally, that motion flow capability is subpar as indicated by other reviews here and online. I've turned it off where I can, but I leave a low level amount on for the Sports broadcasts and my 4K Blu-ray player in HDR. Low level motion flow still will aggravate the videophile when they see shadow ripples around fast moving objects.
Overall, I'm not extremely impressed as I thought I would be, hence I'm giving this a 3 out of 5. I would not recommend purchase just yet, but, I'm not returning the TV either. That awesome contrast and off angle viewing is worth it to me, although I expected a better video engine/processor at this price range. I still might get a professional calibration done and spend the next few months tweaking all the modes. I'll post back with updates every few months.

Update after 2.5 months ownership, 27 Jan 17
January 27, 2017
I have now got vignetting, where the edges of the screen show "black/white flames." Watched a 4K UHD Bluray movie, The Magnificent Seven. The black line below the movie (because of original movie screen profile) looks like it is displaying the Northern Lights. Very distracting and very disappointing for $3000. My setting is HDR Standard (User) where I have lowered some of the black levels to see shades of grey instead of just black blobs on screen. When I change the setting to HDR Vivid, the vignetting goes away mostly, but then I'm back to black blobs on the movie (can't see shirt creases or lapels or details in dark scenes). A few other folks have discovered the same problem and went to a smaller 55 inch TV and had some success in eliminating the vignetting. Weird.
I also have the occasional green line show up at the top of the screen when changing channels on Direct TV DVR. I have to turn off the DVR and turn back on to get rid of the green line where pixels are not registering the signal. I don't have this problem on my Sharp Aquos TV.
One point of good news, I have not gotten any "burn in" yet...where images of letters or lines show up as grey shadows. This is typical for the OLEDs on display at Best Buy and they have to change out their TVs every 6 months. But, their advertisement loops are to blame. I thought I might get the same problem since I watch cable news all the time with banners that are always running at the bottom of the screen. Fortunately not yet. And fortunately, if it ever happens, my Best Buy extended warrantee will cover repair...at least that is what the salesman told me.

The speaker is really nice and set up was super easy. I dont necessarily feel like it merts mu expectations of a speaker that almost cost $1000. There may be other options out there that may perform better for the same price such as Bose.

No 3D! Whaaaaaa???

It appears Samsung has dropped 3D. Even though it's advertised here as having 3D. So frustrated! Either i keep it or go for last years model.. Other than that it's great, C'mon Samsung support all the formats!!! I'm not giving up on my 3D collection! If you don't have or care about 3D you are good to go with this model..

No DVD?
July 20, 2017
I'm pretty sure all Blu-ray players are backward compatible with DVDs. My Samsung UBD Blu-ray player does as well. Don't know what you faced, but the player should play all commercial DVD discs. If you have a home made disc with home video, then compatibility might be an issue. Make sure that the player has the latest firmware update. Report to Samsung and see what cust serv can do for you.
