Great card but has significant coil whine

it's a luck of draw to pick a modern video card without coil whine, some has loud coil whine, other has minimal coil whine It depends on the quality of capacitors on the PCB.
unfortunately, I got a bad one. I will ask for an exchange once my local bestbuy has them in stock again.

It's a great $1000 gaming PC, don't update anythin

***********Don't update anything if you are tech noob, just let the windows update do any drivers update for you. Otherwise, you gotta have same problems as other noobs have. AND tech support won't help since they are just getting minimum wages in India call center. Basically, they search their database to help you solve your issues. In the other hand, if the solution isn't in the database, they will screw your laptop all over. The driver issues are across to ALL laptop regardless any brand as long as they have both video cards************************
I picked this one when it's on sale today. For $1000, you can't find any better options to choose in terms of the whole package.
Pro
Screen, it's the best in this price range. Don't compare it to $2000 MacBook pro.
Speaker. It's the best across any laptops, even better than MacBook pro.
Materials: It feels good. just go to bestbuy and touch it.
Performance: i7 + gtx 960m. it can run a lot of games.
Con:
the 1TB HDD is slow despite it's 7200 RPM. I immediately upgrade it to SSD..
Weight- Heavy. 5.6 lbs
Bezel: WTH is this? It's 2015, they are still having ultra wide bezel. Lenovo needs to take some note from Dell XPS series.
Fan: ...not quiet at all.
Warranty: no in home service.

Buyer Beware
By CherylB
I purchased the Ideapad Y700 laptop through Lenovo at the beginning of this month for my daughters 18th birthday at the end of this month. It arrived on 11/20. Upon opening it and beginning the process of setting it up I opened the Nvidia Geforce panel in the right corner and saw that there was a driver update. I clicked update and it immediately gave my an error saying Nvidia could not be found. So I got on the phone with tech support who at first refused to help me because they said I was having a “software issue” after frantically explaining to them that I had just received this laptop today they agreed to take remote control of the machine. After several minutes the technician told me that my graphics card was not fitted properly in and that this was actually a hardware issue and I would need to send back the laptop…WTF! WHAT?!?!...so here I am with a brand new laptop with hardware issues already boxed and sitting on my kitchen floor to go back. I’m left with nothing to give my daughter for her 18th birthday. I truly believe when a company shows you who they really are through poor quality products that you should listen. I’ll be sending this back for refund and investing my money and time elsewhere. The time that I spent on Lenovo should have gone towards giving my daughter the best 18th I could….that I won’t be able to get back. I suggest you do your research before purchasing Lenovo, start with consumer complaints there are a lot of them!

If you have no clue about tech, you shouldn't update it. Tech support isn't always helpful as they may have very minimal training toward new product like this one.
The newest driver can't be installed to ANY laptop regardless what brand.it is. It's the conflict between Intel and NVidia. Installing new driver won't bring you to heaven.
I couldn't install it at all.

How fast is the hard drive?

7200 RPM, it's still slow
Just buy a cheap SSD and you are all set.
