Do not buy this if you need a quiet unit

This is not the Whirlpool of old. Replaced twelve year old Duets with this machine and matching dryer. They were worn out but quieter.
Looks nice - washes and spins in balance okay BUT....
When filling with water, you can hear it 5 rooms away, sounds like a fire hose.
When spinning, direct drive transmission sounds like a jet engine winding up. Almost worse when winding down from spin cycle, there is an extremely high pitched whine.
Cannot tell what part of the cycle is running, no indicator for that. Annoying.
Front 'touch' control panel is sooooooooo sensitive simply dragging clothing over panel can change settings. This is important if you fold clothes using the top of the machine. You can however lock the panel during wash to prevent this.
Matching dryer does not have a drum light.
I wish someone would have warned me about the noise before I tried this out.
Returned to place purchased (not Best Buy) which was a huge hassle. Then got a Samsung front loader from Best Buy, so far so good.
