When asked if I would recommenced this washer to a friend I'm not sure how I would answer. I'll say yes for now with an explanation.
I read many reviews on this model and they were mostly if not all good and great. I didn't mind spending the extra money on a good portable washer and I'm loyal to best buy so here I am. At this point I suspect GE made some recent changes that really should not have been done.
When the washer arrived I was exited to try it but was disappointed immediately when it started to agitate my dry clothes. It quickly started to fill and paused many times throughout the wash. It took much longer then the countdown timer estimated. I knew something was wrong and was told by GE is was an issue with the timing. Both GE and Best Buy offered to send out repairmen but the machine was 1 day old so I wanted a replacement. I had to wait 10 days to get a new machine and when it arrived I was relieved until I started it. This one also agitated the dry clothes. It seemed to function better then the first one but still paused allot. I called GE back and got a tech who troubleshooted the pausing and she told me that is was normal for the machine to pause between and during cycles. Next was the dry clothes thing. She really had to dig to find an answer and finally told me its a "new feature" that determines how much water the washer needs and levels out the clothes. Even though its a quick gentle agitation I really don't care for it.
The water level seem alittle low to me but it seems the newer machines are made to conserve water. There is a deep fill cycle if you like more water.
The casters on this machine are to small. The machine barely clears the floor when being moved to the sink, in fact there is an area in the bottom rear that actually skims the floor. We are going to wax the floor and hope it does not scratch.
The directions advise you to put rubber stoppers (provided) on the front legs to keep it from rolling while in use . But the problem is the front legs were removed. GE mailed them to us but I almost think it won't roll at all if we put them on so we are going to not use them.
The drum is stainless steel but the inside bottom and many other parts are plastic. The fill openings and spout to empty that the hoses attach to are plastic as well. Good or bad? I don't know.
The fill and drain hose are all one piece and very good. No complaints.
There are gentle tones during the beginning of the rinse cycle and at the end (that can be disabled).
This washer is really big inside for a portable and I love that! My clothes come out very clean (my 10 year old Kenmore just could not do it anymore). Its pretty quiet and I believe it is acceptable for apartment use. It seems to be a good machine and I'm still trying to decide if I can overlook the few issues it has. I will give it a chance and wanted the next person to be able to make a decision knowing a few more things then I did....
My Best Buy number: 0536499040
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have been using the machine for several weeks and I have to say, it functions very well. My clothes come out very clean. Overall I am happy with the machine now that I have gotten used to the differences. I will stick with the statement that the casters need to be bigger and it needs a place to hang the hose when not attached to the sink. All and all I think it was worth the investment!
