Compared to other Budget Phones

I'm going to compare a few features of the Blu R1 Plus to my older Blu Studio X Plus, and a $40 Alcatel OneTouch Flint Cricket phone. They are similar phones, basically the same processor speed, and same 5.5 inch screens. The main issues with the Alcatel was the only choice I had was LTE, other options were missing on Android 5. Being a Cricket phone, the option to use WIFI was locked out, unless you paid $10 more a month. Beware of phones from service providers.
Blu phones are unlocked and come with few sponsored apps. The R1 has Amazon and of course the usual Google junk you can't get rid of. Is the upgrade to Android 6 worth it? Not really, but they did eliminate the Google pull up from the bottom of the screen. Android also tripled the amount to clicks to move apps to the SD card, and that is still limited. I use Nova Launcher to set up my screen the way I like it, and didn't give Android a second look. Also, updating the new phone didn't work. It spent a half hour uploading 1 app. I went into Play and updated what I wanted. Each took about 5 seconds to upload. Now SD cards have to be formatted before use. So you loose everything and have to add pics and songs back on the SD card.
The R1 has 32Gb of internal memory, and 3Gb of RAM, which makes it a bit faster than the Studio X with the same processor. Memory is a real plus at that price. The LTE shows maybe 2 bars where the Studio X with 3-4G showed 5. The Internet says it is common for LTE to show fewer bars. Android 6 has options, 2G only, 2-3-4G and 2-3-4G plus LTE. Settings don't seem to make a difference and I don't think they moved a half dozen towers. The Alcatel showed the same low bars, but the signal went in and out. The Blu R1 has low bars but a consistent signal.
The back case is plastic, not aluminum like advertised. But think of it. Can you really trust good quality aluminum on an imported phone? They miss one alloy and your metal is either to stiff, or too easy to bend. They seem to have plastics down the right way.
Blu sent a budget screen protector. Both sides were full of dust under the cover sheets. Took me a half hour to clean the dust off the sticky side before I could reapply it to the screen. There are still bubbles. Forget plastic screen protectors, they aren't worth the aggravation.
Not sure if the curved screen is the way to go. The screen protector is hard to line up and put on straight, and only covers the very top, sort of. The plastic reduces some of the sensitivity to the screen, but the Alcatel with a glass screen protector is a real chore as a touch screen. The R1 has a much better response. The processor is rather quick, for everyday chores. I don't play games on my phone.
As for the speaker. I didn't buy a $2000 stereo system. The speaker is fine, better than any phone I've owned. None of them in the high end after Android 4. For the price, the memory and RAM on a 5.5 inch phone is great. Lacks a few features higher end phones over $200 have, but it is solid and works great. Not sure of the non removal battery. I like to buy a spare battery. The gel case is included, but has a bit of a gap opposite the buttons. Cases and glass screen protectors are coming.
There is an LED telling you the phone is plugged in and charging Not sure if some app can use those that LED to give notices I care about. But that is worth checking out.

This phone has some nice features like 16 GB internal memory, a standard screen display, and 1.5 GB RAM that it is a little below average. For the price it is a good phone with LTE coverage. On the other hand, I had a lot of problems setting up the phone. It took me a few days to figure out the problem. I added my own apps and widgets to the home screen. Turn it off, back on, and everything is gone. I finally found the problem. Go to SETTINGS/APPS, scroll to the right to RESTRICTED. Some how everything downloaded to the phone is restricted and will not work when the phone is restarted. The other issue is Cricket control on WIFI hot spot. Cricket wants $10 a month for that feature. Unlocked phones don't have that issue. The phone does lag. Press an icon and it takes 1-2 seconds to react.. Not as smooth as the BLU phones with faster processors I have. For the money, this phone is great, but not a powerhouse. It will serve its purpose and should last beyond the warranty period. I hope. But I am not impressed with this manufacturer. It may be the best buy for people who tend to go through phones rather quickly.

R1 Plus Battery
May 13, 2017
The ad claims the battery is 4000mAh. Specs on the the Blu website says 3000mAh. Whatever the case, the battery lasts 2 full days, and goes into a third day.About 6 hours more normal use than a 2800mAh I have on a Blue Studio X, with the same basic components and screen. I get about 2 hours of talk time when the battery hits about 15%, which is rather good.

Why dont the speakers work... I purchased 2 of these,I thought the first was broken because the speaker volume was so low I figured for sure it was a lemon..The second was the same..If you will be needing any speaker volume to listen to media,Forget it !!

I checked out my speaker because of a review. I think the speaker is great for a budget phone. Mine worked great. Try the volume button. You may be reducing the volume when trying to hit the power button. They are too close.

Is there an adapter I can get to put a memory card in the second sim slot?

There is a slot for the SD card, and 2 slots for phone cards. The slots accept micro SD cards, and micro sim CARDS, Not sure why a kit comes with the phone with sim adapters,

The 32GB is supposed to have 3GB RAM, so be careful

Google pushed their share of the operating system to about 6Gb, and there are about 8 apps you can't delete. There is a full 26 free Gigs to start with.

Although this R1 PLUS includes a case, many have complained that they have not received it inside product box. Since I do not find any custom case, I would like to know if the Case offered by BLU, according to photos of the product, is included or not??
