It's Digitime Again!
on May 19, 2017

Digimon was a big part of my childhood like a lot of kids I waited to catch episodes everyday after school and new episodes on Saturday mornings on FOX Kids, great times! So I was super excited to see a continuation to the original series that started it all. This is Digimon Adventure Tri: Reunion.
First off Shout Factory has put out a spectacular release. A standard Blu-ray case with a a nice cardboard slipcover with some awesome artwork chosen for the cover. This release houses both a Blu-ray/DVD version of the film & includes a digital copy. An English dub with several of the original actors have returned from the 1st season to reprise their roles including Joshua Seth as Tai. It's also the first time the Japanese version has been included on any US release for the series, so whichever one you prefer this set has you covered. Presentation is nice in terms of video & audio both turned out great. As an added treat a couple of bonus features are included such as an interview with the English cast & Director of the dub and a look at the premiere screening for the movie. Both are fun watches.
Digimon Adventure Tri is worth watching for any long time Digimon fans. If you loved the original cast & partner Digimon you'll enjoy this. This first part is very much like a reunion, the gang reunites to combat a new threat that could spell out trouble for both worlds, there's a nice balance of action and adventure as well as down time with our cast. It's also quite a nostalgia trip, we get to revisit these familiar characters and see what their up to. Many of us were kids when we first went into the Digital World and as we grew Tai & his friends have done the same, so we know these guys it's like revisiting an old friend. This is only the first installment of six so there's plenty more to be seen. Can't wait to see where the story goes & make sure you support the home releases from Shout factory!

Another Solid Lupin Adventure
on April 14, 2016

First off I'm glad I was able to pick this up in an actual Best Buy store, especially a Lupin The 3rd release! Discotek's release is pretty slick with a nice slipcover and some great art on the case cover, it's also reversible. This is also the 2nd Blu-ray release from Discotek and it looks pretty stunning in HD. It also helps that the animation is well done.
Clocking in a little under an hour Jigen's Gravestone is divided into 2 episodes full of action and adventure. This is a Lupin & Jigen story, it follows the Woman Called Fujiko Mine series right where these 2 characters start their partnership. So this is more of a gritty take on the series, stylized violence and Fujiko fan service are presented so this one isn't for kiddies. What makes this release a bit more special is Discotek commissioned their 1st English Dub for this one! The cast is pretty solid with actors new to the franchise, Keith Silverstein is excellent as Lupin I wouldn't mind hearing him voice the master thief again.
If you know these iconic characters and enjoy their adventures you'll enjoy this story but I also think this can be it's own stand alone thing. It's a more mature take on the series but has all the elements that make Lupin the 3rd fun and enjoyable.
*Support this release, Discotek will be watching closely and if it does well who knows we could get more dubbed Lupin releases!

Three great Pokemon movies in one limited edition collection on Blu-ray. In Pokemon: The First Movie, the lab-created Pokemon Mewtwo wreaks havoc among the "pocket monsters". In Pokemon: The Movie 2000, Ash, Misty and Tracey venture to Shamouti Island, only to encounter rare new Pokemon friends. And in Pokemon 3 The Movie, Ash and his Pokemon buddies must liberate his mother from a crystallized prison. In English and Japanese with English subtitles.

Catch'em on Blu-ray!
on February 19, 2016

The first 3 movies have been long out of print for years, so getting these movies on Blu-ray is a real treat. I got them on VHS & DVD and now the circle is complete with Blu-ray. First off the packaging is really slick, all 3 movies are housed in a limited edition steel book case. The picture looks really nice, everything has been cleaned up and the films are presented in widescreen, something that the old DVD's lacked. In my opinion the 3rd movie Spell of the Unknown is the best with it's plot and characters, but all 3 are classic. Chances are if your purchasing this set your and old school fan and now you can share them with new fans!
One would think with the 20th anniversary of Pokemon these would include some nice extras, unfortunately they don't. Your just getting the first 3 movies and that's about it, the extras from the older releases aren't carried over. This new set is also missing the Pikachu shorts that played before the films. It's a shame since many fans have fond memories of watching those before the main features and they can't re-experience them.
It's not a perfect release but at the end of the day these are still the movies I remember. I'll always re-watch these films, their fun and exciting and yes nostalgic and that's not a bad thing. It's great hearing the original voice cast I grew up with, Veronica Taylor, Eric Stuart, Rachael Lillis & the late Maddie Blaustein you guys are the best! If you own the old releases I'd hold on to them just for the extras and shorts.
