The illustration is misleading: The picture on Best Buy website depicts the cable with small magnetic iron clamps at both ends. These small clamps help in shielding electromagnetic interference and reduce electromagnetism generated by the electricity conducted. The actual cable comes without these two clamps, as shown on bestbuy.com. Interesting to note, the Audio Quest website does not show the actual or complete picture of the cable; therefore, no possible way to assess if the manufacturer is actually producing this cable with the iron clamps.
This was one of my main reason to purchase this cable. The cable was ordered and picked up at Best Buy customer service counter (have to say their service is excellent). I decided to not accept the cable and obtain a refund, which I did.
Need to mention, this Audio Quest NRG-1.5 power cable (two prong) is very well built. For the price, the quality is there, dual shielded conductors, but it should include the magnetic iron clamps at both ends.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

1a) Bought a Samsung 4K UN55HU8700FXZA and had to exchange it due to a "pink screen" every so often during turn on. Google it and there it was tons of blogs and comments on this problem. So decided to exchange it. The curve TV not only looks great but it gives a wonderful watching angle.
1b) Exchanged it back for Sony 4K XBR55X850B. Was very disappointed with this product: a# setup not as intuitive as Samsung, b# does not have the sharpness, clarity and resolution I was expecting. Remote control feels and looks very cheap. However, must mention the TV speakers on this Sony product are much better than Samsung's HU8700.
1c) Exchanged this product for a Samsung 4k UN55HU9000FXZA... and, WOW what a difference! This product is very easy to setup, the clarity, resolution, sharpness are indescribable, just right out the box. The blacks and white colors are amazing. After some quick mods on the setup it is the best I've seen even on Best Buy's stores!
1d) Have had family members look at it and cannot believe it. As a professional and an electronics engineer, Do RECOMMEND, without reservation, the Samsung 4K TV UN55HU9000FXZA.

2) Have to give kudos to Customer Service at Winter Garden, FL and outstanding marks to the Altamonte Springs, FL customer service. Specifically, this team is extremely well coordinated and savvy on their endeavors - incredible, simply flawless!
3) Need to recognize the well versed and tech savvy Samsung and Sony TV experts at #Winter Garden, FL# #Magnolia Section#, wished had their permission to write their names here.
4) The Best Buy reviewing, purchasing and exchange experience was excellent. Sales associates are always wiling and able to help you.

does this TV put out an optical audio signal when fed a cable box HDMI input?

You did not state the 4K model TV you have. But I can say the HU9000F the "One Connect" box does have for an Optical Output. You can connect the cable box via an HDMI cable directly, as I have it, and it works perfect. Then, from the "One Connect" Optical output to the Sonos sound bar.

More UHD content? The pack comes with 10 4K UHD movies and about 20 documentaries, that's it.
You can obtain additional 4K content on Netflix, Amazon or Samsung as they become available. There are very few currently available.
However, this particular TV (UH9000F) (kind off) up scales Blue Ray DVD's to 4K and, have to say the image is the best to any other 4K TV currently on the market. I have had other Samsung HU7800 4K (returned) and Sony XBR55X850B 4K (returned) and they simply cannot compare.

Is a longer Connect Box Cable available
The connect box is standard and the supplied connecting cable length is about 5 feet in length. It is not available in longer lengths.
