I "upgraded" from an inspiron Intel i5 chip.
Some things were an upgrade, a few were a downgrade, like only 8X dvd-write whereas my 2 year old inspiron has 16X!!!! Speed is better btu I was expecting a lot better. Benchmark "Passmark" overall rating of 3282 wasn't as high as I thought it would be over the 2321 2-year old inspiron. All but disk percentile ranking was 75 to 80% plus. Disk was abysmal 40% percentile. CD rom was pretty bad as well.
Then of course there is the DVD not working until you upgrade to firmware v1.09 "AND" uninstall the DVD from device manager. Overall I like it, but not sure 3x the cost of the inspiron was worth it.
A single memory stick was a surprise too. Typical they are paired for faster performance. I mean all I ever heard was how the XPS was top of the line, but I think those days are over.
Will I keep it? Probably...unless other things go wrong. Given the single RAM chip, DVD speed or lack thereof issue, DVD firmware issue (although fixed for now), and relatively low passmark score, I can't recommend this XPS model.
Oh, one more thing on the DVD tray. It is SUPER flimsly. I can no longer insert DVDs with one hand. It's much too fragile and requires two hands to insert/click in a CD/DVD.

DOA
on August 19, 2015
Posted by: mjbennett9
I'll start with what should have been an early warning. In the store, I accidentally hit shutdown. I then tried to turn it on, and couldn't store associate even had a hard time. Bought anyway (new via store order). Came 8/19/2015. Setup, profile, office 365, setup edge and chrome (edge ok but not perfect), as well as let it do microsoft updates. Setup new one drive (which I do NOT like; give me the 8.1 version back). Anyway, I set up system to turn display off in 10, and sleep in 20. I came to check on PC an hour later, and it was sleeping. Power light was amber (online that says a fault about 5V bus). Anyway, I turned on and it went white but no screen at all. Tried several times--nothing. Tried the screen off/on button too--nothing. Ultimately pulled power cord and retried. Not it goes to the Dell logo but that's it. Did CTRL-ALT-DEL the F2 quickly and it goes to F2 or F12, but never makes it to setup. reboot and back to Dell logo, but that's it, no windows. Almost as if hard drive is dead---already. Or worse. But after a few hours of setup, it's basically DOA. Back to store tomorrow. I'm torn on a replacement because it has 4.5 stars on here. Anyone have similar issues?

Less than 20 pages and 2 jams already. Same paper as 4150CDN brother color laser. that laser had 1300 pages printed with zero jams. Not jamming, but getting jam inside error before it even picks up the paper. It's super fast and relatively quiet.

Recovery Media
February 6, 2015
Does HP include the option to create your own recovery Media (i.e. bootable USB or DVDs?
I know Dell does, but recent Lenovo purchase does NOT. $69 option. Thinking of returning it. I like to have media to reset to factory every 6 to 12 months, or in emergency

Westinghouse - 48" (DWM48F1Y1) LED HDTV Review
By srath2
I got this online at $300 from bestbuy ( May 26th) and i decide to buy the protection plan for 2 years..I am glad i did buy the protection plan. The TV i got online was bad after 30 minutes ..the screen started shaking and it became white..just 30 min after i start it...I was so dissapointed...i called the protection plan guys and they told me to take to a local bestbuy store. It is not easy to carry the big TV to a stote..I thought the protection plan for tv more than 40" the tech guys will come to my house to fix it...But it is not free..they will chare 100/hr to check. the ad was misleading..so be prepared, they wont come to your house for free if u buy a bigger TV...but at the local store they exchanged it with another TV and so far it is working fine....Bestbuy should check TV before sending them...The pic quality is great..sound is ok..not bad..you dont need a sound bar as suggested by some other users...i hope this will last for 2-3 years..for 300 it is great choice..it is just my luck if you get a bad TV at the very start.

Sound is horrific
July 7, 2015
Is your sound from built-in speakers working correctly that you don't think a sound bar is needed? I've had WAY cheaper tv's that while the sound was nothing like a sound bar or surround sound, the quality was ok. But my volume is just at an ok level if nothing else is running like dishwasher, etc. If full volume is a 10, it sounds like it's set to 3 or 4. Anything after the half way mark all the way to full sounds the same (less than 5). Am I the only one with that problem?

Great coverage
By Schmez
My sister has a 2 story house and had issues getting coverage through out. I put this unit in and was able to blanket the entire house. Lots of features and multi-networks - allowed me to isolate media usage and regular usage on the networks - maximizing bandwidth for all.

Antenna orientation

Do you know if I could fold all the antennas down, then wall mount the unit vertically? or leave antennas extended and vertically mount (if better)?

Great router
By inkstain
Was unfamiliar with this brand. A friend recommended it so I did a little research and couldn't find anything bad about them. Took a chance and glad I did. Stupid easy to set up and stupid fast! I have been using it for about a month and have not had to reset it once. Covers my entire house with no dead spots. Highly recommend!

Best Mirrorless camera for your money!!
By JMoore
This is the best camera I've ever owned!! The pictures that it produces are beautiful and the auto focus is super fast!! I am very impressed by Sony after buying this camera and am excited to upgrade further down the Sony camera line as time goes by!! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wish the battery lasted longer!!

For battery life, did you try setting the camera to plane mode? Yes, plane mode. Wifi is always on (battery suck).

Fan is NOISY! Unlike the ad where fan is "whisper quiet," even under full load, it is NOT quiet. When computer is idle, sure fan slows down to a whisper, but under any load, and it is annoyingly loud and variable in speed. The hard drive is THE same ST1000DM003 one in my 2 year old inspiron. 2-year old tech in a new "state of the art" XPS system. Slow, even for 7200 RPM.

Should be better
By Glotzer from North Richland Hills, TX
Because of the I7, 12GB memory, video card, the computer should be better. It has often hung up when accessing files and a few programs. Otherwise, it is fast when rendering video and other functions, though I haven't tried a spreadsheet yet. Overall it's OK, but not as good as expected.

I spent another $100 and installed a samsung evo 850 m.2 SSD 250GB drive today for windows/apps and setup the HDD as a data only drive. WAYyyyyy better speed now. My benchmark overall went up 1000 points, and my drive score slightly more than quadrupled!!! NOW, it's the machine an XPS should be. Lightening fast boot-ups and use.

As for the above question that I asked; Is this AMD A10 series processor an A10-7870K or an A10-7850K? The A10- 7800 is the series and within that series there are two specific processors from all my research. . The 7870K is slightly better. Which is it?

AMD? It's an intel process (i7)

how many spare hard drive bays does this have?

enough room for an extra hard drive and an extra CD/DVD drive. as far as drive bays. But there's a ton of room to make your own mounts to install even more devices.

Blue tooth

Does this unit have Bluetooth in it. I don't see it mentioned. I want to use a wireless printer and key board.

I realize it is wireless for my wifi, however it does not say Bluetooth is part of the wireless wifi.
