Disappointed with Frigidaire Customer Service
on September 6, 2015

I purchased this compact fridge for my office. I needed to change the direction the door opened. To do so, I needed to remove the two plastic plugs from the top of the fridge to able to screw in the hinge bolts. The plugs, of course, broke when I pried them out. Changing the direction the door opened was easy. It required the removal and re installation of three bolts. I was surprised there were no replacement plugs packaged with the unit, but no worries, I'd just call Frigidaire for replacements.
I called Customer Service at Frigidaire, a/k/a Electrolux. When I explained what I needed, the CS Rep was at first confused. She then told me that Frigidaire did not supply replacement parts for this fridge. She suggested I take the broken plugs to a hardware store and try to match them up. I was able to find the plugs on Amazon.
I filled the fridge with soda. The shelf easily accommodated three 12-packs. I couldn't fit a full 12-pack in the door soda rack because it can only holds 8 or 9 cans. But no worries, the second shelf would hold the overflow.
During the next week, I noticed a 'chirping' noise emitting from the fridge. It was intermittent and I diagnosed it as a problem with the compressor. I called Customer Service and after hanging on the phone for ten minutes or so, I explained the problem to a CS Rep. She asked me if I had unplugged it, and then plugged it back in. No, this was a refrigerator, not a computer. Regardless, that was the recommended fix. So I unplugged the fridge, waited a few minutes, and then plugged it back in. As I mentioned, the problem was intermittent so I had to wait until the compressor started before determining if the 'reset' had any effect. It didn't, the noise was still there.
I called Customer Service back and after verifying that I had unplugged and plugged the fridge back in, the CS Rep told me that Frigidaire did not repair compact refrigerators. Instead, she started to explain this complicated process where I was supposed to remove the serial number plate, send it in, and they would make an offer to repurchase the fridge. If I accepted their offer, they would mail me a Visa check card. I guess I would also need to ship the fridge back to them, but at this point in the conversation, I interrupted the CS Rep and told her that was way too complicated. The fridge was brand new and I didn't want to sell it back to Frigidaire, I wanted a working fridge. I said I would just take it back to Best Buy. She said thank you and wished me a good day.
Best Buy was great. I purchased the fridge using BestBuy.com. There are three Best Buy stores where I live and I selected the nearest store to my office as the pick up location. I returned the fridge on Saturday at a different Best Buy store. I had already disposed of the box, so I was a little bit apprehensive when I wheeled the fridge into the store. The only questions the Best Buy CS Rep asked was: Is there anything wrong with it? Yes, it has a bad compressor. And did I want to exchange it or get a refund? I decided to exchange it. I like the fridge. It's a good size for my office and because I purchased it while it was on sale, ($70 off), the price couldn't be beat.
My fingers are crossed that this one will work well.
My Best Buy number: 0208330442
I would recommend this to a friend!
