You’ll enjoy amazing video clarity and crystal-clear sound. Versatile USB-C connectivity delivers video, audio and data, and charges your laptop. Plus, with just one cord, you'll have a clutter-free desk space. A super clear 5MP IR pop-up camera features facial recognition through Windows Hello for convenient, instant sign-on to Windows. The best part? The camera stays hidden until you're ready for video chatting or selfies. Say HELLO to Picture Perfect Video Conferencing
on November 5, 2021

Have reviewed many monitors, owned dozens, and purchased hundreds for offices, the Dell 24 Video Conferencing monitor quickly became one of my favorites, hands down. The Dell 24 Video Conferencing monitor is a success, whether you’re conferencing with team members, business partners across the globe or with friends down the street.
The design, engineering, and product are brilliantly executed. First impression was of the stand which is smartly stylish and functional. Typically, do not get into the monitor stands in reviewing, though this stand requires a nod for its stylish, solid design with an ideal center slot for wire management, nice.
Apart from an exceptional IPS LED monitor which has solid blacks and superb color accuracy is the array of ports, more than I have seen on a monitor:
1. DisplayPort
2. HDMI
3. USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 (Video, data, video, mobile/laptop charging “even when the monitor is off”
4. USB 3.2 ports (2)
Likes:
1. FreeSync
2. Noise-cancelling microphone
3. 5W speakers
4. Built in 5P camera
5. Windows Hello support – one of my favorites
6. Ability to hide the camera – simply lower the camera back into the monitor – privacy/security
7. Stand swivels, tilts, and pivots for ideal viewing adjustment
8. Low blue light screen tech, easy on the eyes
Windows Hello runs beautifully on the Dell 24 Video Conferencing monitor, with all the tech the monitor provides the pop-up monitor with Hello rang my bell. Have been using Windows Hello with fingerprint for years, the facial recognition on the Dell made my day, and I am forever spoiled to any other login methods.
Bottom-line the Dell 24 Video Conferencing monitor has taken front and center on my desktop, from the gorgeous screen, the array of port support, the stand and Windows Hello login my other monitors stand in the shadow.
Picture-perfect for anyone who spends the day at their desk working, video conferencing or just having fun the Dell brings a new level of tech to the game.

Blink - You are on Camera
on November 3, 2021
Posted by: vrs99
from TN
First, if you have inquisitive Beagle this is a fun Gadget! Good laugh as my pup was standing listening to and barking at the Blink Doorbell. Took him all of three minutes to figure out I was speaking into my phone.
The Blink Doorbell with Module 2 is impressive with its simplicity of installing and setting up the wide range of options the product offers. This is my first high tech doorbell/camera system and was sold immediately at going techie at the front door.
Obvious Highlights are the Camera with Video and Photo Capture, Two-Way Audio all of which functions flawlessly.
The system can be installed wired or wireless, I opted for the wireless mode over Wi-Fi for convenience. Setting up the wi-fi worked right out of the box without having to coax the system into connecting. Like that.
HD Video and photos are clear with excellent two-way audio. Good stuff. Like that the app supports Biometric Authentication, makes app usage so much easier than passwords.
Doorbell chime is a disappointment when connected wirelessly, it is quite audible and clear outside but barely discernable indoors at my home as it is not wired to an indoor chime. When watching TV, being in other rooms or talking the chime is too low.
Wide-Range of Options:
1. Scheduling
2. Motion detection on or off
3. Zones can be set to facial focus or capture full background
4. Privacy Zone – Like the ability to block areas of video or photo captures
5. Infrared Night Vision
6. Audio Control
7. Video Quality
Likes:
1. Batteries 2 Lithium AA long lasting (non-rechargeable)
2. Clear two-way audio
3. Can activate capturing picture hourly
4. Full HD
5. Answer your door anywhere from your mobile – Security when away
6. Alexa Skills
7. Ability to save to Local Storage
Having outdoor security devices in a cold to hot environment have found that operating range is important, and the Blink Doorbell does well for my area with a range of -4º F to 113º F.
Being my first doorbell camera/audio system have found that it is an exceptional system and I value the extra level of security the Blink provides my family.

The Corsair iCUE LT100 Smart Lighting Towers Starter Kit is the premium RGB lighting kit to spice up your gaming setup. Included in the box are the two light towers, 6ft AC Adapter, 5ft micro-USB to USB-A cable, 5ft RGB cable, and removable headset holder. Setup was simple, just plug and play. Lighting towers can play one of 11 preset effects without the Corsair iCUE software running.
Lighting towers are reversable, allowing for direct or indirect lighting. Removable headset holder is a thoughtful and convenient addition. Power button is located on the front of the main base. Bright LEDs are enclosed in a sturdy, light diffusing enclosure which creates an appealing, seamless effect. Expansion kits can also add 2 additional towers. Overall build quality is solid and well designed.
To unlock the full potential of the lighting towers, the Corsair iCUE software is needed. Software allows you to check for firmware updates, adjust brightness, and choose between 31 different lighting effects. Corsair iCUE allows for custom lighting effects as well. Personal favorite lighting effect is called “audio lighting.” This turns both lighting towers into a stereo audio visualizer which looks fantastic. Another fun effect is the “fireplace” effect. The “video lighting” effect synchronizes the lighting towers to what is displayed onscreen. However, this effect did not work properly with my personal setup.
Overall, the Corsair iCUE LT100 Smart Lighting Towers Starter Kit is the cream of the crop when it comes to RGB lighting.

Great Fun - Great Gift - Great memories

The Aura Mason Frame is my first digital screen, though I have looked at digital screens over the years never purchased. Aura Mason has integrated years of tech advancements and makes a persuasive reason for including a digital frame in our home. One of my first impressions is how much my family and I enjoyed adding the Aura Mason to our living room setting. Fact is all three of us were excited with the Mason.
First impression when opening the shipping packaging and seeing the Aura box is it obviously appealing to those who enjoy well-presented home items that offer a sense of charmante, charming. The Aura Frame’s are Handcrafted and “… thoughtfully designed to complement any interior style.” I agree.
The frame is a well-appointed Graphite shade which accents with delicacy, presenting your photog captures brilliantly.
Setup is quite straight forward, plug the frame in, load the app to your mobile and follow the instructions. My phone did not connect first attempt with Bluetooth, resolved by rebooting my phone, quite typical of Bluetooth devices.
After setup you move on to uploading pictures from your mobile or Google Photos, there is no path to upload pictures from a Windows PC. If you want to move pictures from PC, best I can tell is you will have to first load pics to either Google Photos or to your mobile. Not thrilled there is no option to store pics locally, only options are loading photographs to the cloud. There is no internal storage or an external storage option.
Gifting! From Box design to packaging to the option to pre-load photos with message to recipient the Mason Frame looks like a great Gifting Option. You can preload pictures to the Frame without opening the packaging by scanning a QR code on the outside of the box. Quite clever.
It is a brilliant for gifting, a present that will thrill and continue to have a meaningful place in friends and family homes for years to come. Plus point, it can be setup to allow others to load pictures to your frame, imagine coming home from vacation and sharing the pictures with family and friends.
Likes:
1. Unlimited cloud storage
2. Can play 30secs of video with audio
3. Photo curation – will not display blurry pics
4. “No hidden fees or subscription costs” Like that.
5. Wide programmable time sequence for slideshow
An extraordinary digital picture frame with solid set of options that is right at home in your abode and makes a brilliant gift. Good stuff.

Let’s start with a quick round up. This is the best all-round TV. Hands down. Movies, gaming, sports... it’ll handle anything you can throw at it and look great doing it (try not to actually throw stuff, it’s just a figure of speech). No surprise when it’s got 4K resolution, Quantum Dot Color, Dolby Vision HDR, 120Hz native panel, Full Array Local Dimming Zones, anti-glare panel and powerful 1,500 nit peak brightness. What does all that mean? It’s like gazing at the sun melting into the Mediterranean Sea from Ibiza’s coolest bars. But sitting on your couch. At home. Then for gaming, we added Variable Refresh rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and FreeSync Premium to make the most of the latest generation gaming platforms. Even if you don’t know what half this stuff means, one look at the picture and you’ll want it.

Quantum TV at Excellent Price Point - Cool!
on October 8, 2021
Posted by: vrs99
from TN
The Hisense U8G ULED 4K is my first experience with Quantum Dot technology, it is a leap forward in TV viewing. FYI, ULED is Hisense’s naming scheme for the equivalent of QLED found in other brands. To paraphrase Shakespeare ‘A rose by any other name would look the same…”
In reviewing the Hisense U8G I set it up next to my LED 4K UHD TV with HDR, first impression was ‘Wow!” Quantum Dot tech is a dramatic leap forward. The bright hues are well defined, and the shaded areas were realistic shading where many TVs will only show black or dark grey. Spectacular. The spectrum of colors are brilliantly stunning, rich, and dynamic to subtle. Bottom line the Quantum Dot technology sold me over and I have already replaced my 55” LED 4K UHD with a 55" Quantum system in my bedroom.
One notable of the Hisense U8G over my one and a half year old 4K system is the absolute speed increase in all operations from the Android Home screen to my DirecTV processes. The smoothness is massive selling point for me. The time lapses I was having in controlling my older TV were not fun. Have to love the newer gen processors and tech.
Setup is rather straight forward, except you are sitting up a 53lb 65” set with a depth of 3.5”. The two piece stand for the Hisense U8G is an excellent design that provides solid support while looking good and requiring only three feet of stand top space. Have had smaller sets that have required far more space. If you are mounting the TV to a wall, you will need a substantial mount and solid mounting points.
The Hisense U8G operates on the Android TV system, which I like and if you are familiar with Android, you will feel right at home with the set. The Android OS has deep hooks with Google, supporting Google Assistant and Alexa.
The remote and system setup ran very smoothly, and the system walks you through each step of installation. Just need to grab your passwords for Netflix, Prime, Wi-fi, and other apps you install.
The remote is well laid-out with six of the most popular app buttons. Remote is well laid out and includes voice, smaller than many of the remotes and quite easy to manage. Only knock on the remote are the edges at the bottom of the remote which are not comfortable if keeping the remote in my hand for extended periods.

Likes:
1. Filmmaker Mode – Adds nothing to the movies/TV shows – you see film as it was originally shot
2. Free Sync and Gaming Mode
3. Internal 8gb+ storage
4. Alexa enabled
5. Google Assistant
6. Both wired and Wi-Fi supported
7. HDMI 2.1
8. Refresh Rate 120Hz
9. USB 3.0
10. Full Array Backlighting with Local Dimming - Nice
11. 2021 Model
After watching the Hisense U8G for s short time, setup next to my 55” 4K HDR system I was sold, hook, line, and sinker. It truly is a Quantum Leap forward in technology and is wonderful to watch.
At the Hisense U8G price point it makes a compelling reason to give it a good look.

Full On All-in-One in Small Footprint
on September 27, 2021
Posted by: vrs99
from TN
Especially capable ink printer with a small footprint that will be right at home in many spaces and roles. In any application where space may be limited the Epson ET-4850 will be good option for an All-in-One (copy, scan, fax, print). Can see the ET-4850 in a student’s dorm room, at home, and in offices.
Strong point is the cartridge free high-capacity ink reservoir system which is stated to provide up to 7500 black pages and 6000 color. That is a remarkable amount of printing from one ink reservoir fill. Concerned that by adding ink to the printer could be messy, far from it, it is as simple as it gets and not a drop is leaked. Filling the reservoirs, the first time required about ten minutes.
Document printing is striking quality suitable for professional correspondence, student papers, resumes, essays and for quick everyday prints. Photo printing is brilliant.
Likes:
1. Small footprint - replacing a much larger all-in-one and love the space saving
2. Tilting control console with Color LCD screen – tilts from Vertical to Horizontal
3. Print Quality – excellent for my resident student
4. Auto-Document Feeder
5. Not having to replace expensive ink cartridges
6. Auto 2-sided printing
7. 250 sheet capacity
8. All-in-One features built into a capable small office printer
9. Ethernet and Wi-Fi
10. 2-year warranty – speaks to dependability
The unit is somewhat noisier than the larger unit I am replacing, not an issue but noticeable.

After a week of usage and a substantial amount of printing, from 175 double sided print job to many documents have found the Epson EcoTank ET-4850 to be Rock Solid, never skipped a beat.

Convenient - Quick - Automatic Record Tracking+
on September 23, 2021
Posted by: vrs99

First impression of the Beurer BC57 wrist blood pressure monitor was it arrived professionally packaged, easy to open and locate the unit, accessories, and Quick Start Guide. The Beurer BC57 is well crafted and clearly reflects the engineering and design that went into developing the medical device.
Quick Start Guide is precisely that, in just a few clear steps I had the monitor setup and performing my first blood pressure measurement. Likewise, in those first few steps of the guide I understood how to operate the device and had a clear knowledge the features.
The next instruction was to download and install their Health Coach app which works with Bluetooth seamlessly. With app installed it will automatically transfer the data from the monitor to the Health Coach after each blood pressure measurement.
Health Coach data is clearly displayed in the app and you can search historic data and view data points by day, week, month, or year.
The setup of the BC57 and the Health Coach could not be easier unless it jumped out of the box and set itself up and ran the measurement.
Compared the readings from the Beurer monitor to a well-known upper arm monitor that I have used for years, the blood pressure measurements and heart rate are spot on.
Included in the box with the BC57 monitor:
1. Instruction manual, professionally written and easy to follow
2. Storage/carrying case
3. Two AAA batteries
4. Quick Start Guide
Additionally, at Best Buy’s Beurer BC57 page you will find an on-line manual, a link to download the manual and an interactive Tour of the product. Nice touch.
Likes:
1. Irregular heartbeat (arrythmia) detection
2. Risk Identification
3. Monitors two users
4. Comfortable wrist band
5. Clear large LCD screen
The Beurer BC57 is convenient, easy to use and an especially accurate device, which is the Bottom-Line.

Best Flash Drive - Period
on August 7, 2021
Posted by: vrs99
from TN
The SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive is a speedy, futureproof flash drive with many nice features.
First impressions of the device were how light and slim it was. Small form factor ensures it will not interfere with other nearby ports. A big fan of the USB-C connector as it is cross-compatible with a wide variety of newer devices and takes advantage of USB 3.1 speeds.
Flash Drive is compatible with the SanDisk Memory Zone app which can easily manage and backup files on your mobile device and flash drive. Windows reports a total capacity of 233 GB whereas Android reports a capacity of 250 GB. A minor issue is that it is slightly harder to extend this flash drive than traditional ones as it is smaller and has more friction.
Typically flash drives do not excite me – But this drive is Brillant and I am highly impressed!
Overall, you can’t go wrong with this cutting-edge flash drive.

Power with Style!
on July 16, 2021
Posted by: vrs99

The APC Back-UPS Pro Gaming is a fresh take on battery backups with fun and useful Gaming features. Out of the box I first noticed the sleek design and premium look, coolest looking UPS I have ever seen.
Battery connection was simple, just plug in the wire inside the battery compartment. The device also comes with a USB-A cable to RJ45 for communication to a PC.
Back of the unit features six battery backup outlets and four surge only outlets along with coaxial and gigabit ethernet protection. Its surge protection is rated at 1080 joules, which is similar to other high end APC products. Output capacity is 1500VA, 900 Watts.
The APC Pro Gaming outputs Sine Wave as opposed to modified sine wave produced by most battery backups. Most modern electronics handle modified sine wave fine, but older or more sensitive devices such as medical, scientific, or audio benefit from pure sine wave. Bottom-line, a State-of-the-art Sine Wave UPS will handle your rig and devices brilliantly.
During power fluctuations and brownouts this device keeps the power at a steady level to prolong the lifespan of connected devices. While under a heavy 450-watt load while gaming the UPS LCD indicated it would run 8 minutes on battery power, plenty of time to save your game and/or data.
LCD display has a similar layout to other APC devices but is much larger and clearer on this model. It displays information such as load, input voltage, input frequency, and battery life.
Front and rear RGB lighting is customizable with 12 colors to choose from. Rear RGB is angled so you can see the ports in low light. Front RGB ring is reactive to load or battery life, depending on which screen is selected. When booting up a game session, the screen automatically switched to load percentage with reactive lighting; however, it only stayed on for a few seconds. Unit can also detect power anomalies including wiring faults and alerts you with pulsing RGB lights.
The lighting is tasteful and not overdone. Don’t like RGB? Well, it can be easily disabled with a single button. Would appreciate a way to turn off the lit APC logo on top of the unit.
I am a longtime fan of APC power backup systems, directing the installation of “many” in server rooms and corporate environments for decades and have five APC Back-UPS operating in my home now. My experience with APC is long term unit reliability and delivering the Power when we needed it most.
Another particularly good upside to having your computing world working behind an uninterruptible power supply is you will find that your equipment lasts much longer and will have far less issues with program or OS crashes.
The APC Back-UPS Pro Gaming delivers clean power to your most precision gaming components and keeps you on the grid.

Sony Delivers Huge Sound - Brilliantly!
on June 20, 2021
Posted by: vrs99
from TN
The Sony XP700 X is a monster speaker with impressive sound. Out of the box this speaker is huge and a bit heavy (37.26 lbs.) This makes sense because of its two 6.7-inch mid-range drivers and four tweeters. One of those is backward firing for its marketed “omnidirectional” sound. Mid-range drivers are square shaped to offer a larger diaphragm surface area. Twenty-Five hours of battery life is remarkable for its size and speaker array and justifies the weight.
To accommodate the weight, the speaker boasts two large handles which are comfortable and ergonomic. Entire build is made of solid plastic. Front grill is substantial metal and is not removable. Rubber feet on the speaker’s side allow it to be set horizontal as well as vertical. Nine-inch slot in the top of the speaker allows for a phone or tablet to be set there securely, cool. IPX4 water resistance means the unit is protected against splashing water but is untested against solids.
Bluetooth pairing is simple and flawless. Speaker connection appeared on my phone as soon as I turned it on. Rear of the device has an IO panel with a power port, two USB ports, two ¼” jacks, and a 3.5mm jack. Both USB ports can charge devices and one can play music. One ¼” jack supports a microphone and the other supports either a mic or guitar. Guitar sounds good with the speaker but gain knob could not push the electric guitar to clip. IO panel is enclosed by a rubber seal which is water resistant.
Top of the unit has power, Bluetooth, play/pause, volume, and a “mega bass boost” button. These buttons are large and offers tactile feedback. Party connect, battery, and light buttons are on the rear of the unit. Lighting is reactive to your music and is very stylish. Battery care feature prevents overcharging and prolongs battery health. Party connect allows up to 100 Sony compatible speakers to be linked together in concert to fully be immersed in Rock or Smooth Jazz.
Sony Music Center app allows for extra customization of this speaker. You can choose a preset EQ or you can create your own. There is also a ClearAudio+ option which is “Sony’s recommended sound setting for music listening with one simple operation.” There are also DJ effects including isolator and flanger. There are also a myriad of power and lighting options. The app also shows the exact battery level of the device.
If you are looking to “Live Life Loud” the Sony XP700 will rock your world.
will rock your world.

Good value with limitation
By CSatTX from Houston, TX
I am writing this review using the Split X2. Bought it on Black Friday. This is a tablet and a laptop combined. With a i5 CPU, 13 inch screen, and the price, this is a very good value. For a laptop, the weight (4.4 lbs) is OK, not great.
The only con on this item is it is non-expandable. First, the memory is only 4GB and soldered. It cannot go to 8GB. Second, there is supposed to be a HD space in the keyboard unit like the other X2 models. For some reason this particular model does not have that feature.
So if you can live with 4GB memory and 128GB SSD, this is an excellent machine. I am running Lightroom and MS Office on this machine and performance could have been better.
Drive expansion
December 29, 2013
The X2 does accept a 500GB drive in the keyboard.

4 convience of tablet and power of a real computer
By nearlynormal from springfield, IL
4 out of 5. Works as advertised. The screen works as a nice sized tablet. It could certainly use aUSB port onthe screen. If you aren't carrying the keyboard and want to show some photos from a flash drive you're out of luck.
Adding flash storage
December 31, 2013
It is true the tablet does not have a USB port to throw some pictures into. But you can insert a micro SDHC card into the top/tablet. You can currently get 64 GB Micro SDHC card class 10 which will fit nicely and increase the tablets storage by 50%.
Personally I store almost 11,000 high resolution picture files which requires 29 GB of storage. So I am guessing that 64 GB would suit the average user.

Rock Solid
By vrs99 from TN
Replaced my Linksys EA 6700 router with the WRT1900ac on my home network. The EA 6700 is a good router but it is not in the same class as the WRT1900ac.
The signal is outstanding, solid and fast throughout the whole house and outside too boot.
Setup is smooth and easy, especially if you are familiar with latest versions of the Linksys software. The router has plenty of features and added a few more since the last router versions.
Has the best Network Map I have seen, informative and quickly shows where your bandwidth is being used.
If you need/want a powerful router that is flexible and expandable (according to Linksys) in the future take a hard look at the WRT1900ac.
Plan on using eSATA? MUST READ - be Forewarned
September 3, 2014
One of my main decisions in purchasing the WRT1900ac was to attach my NetGear NAS on the eSATA port for easier access across my network.
No such luck.
Spent time with Linksys tech and neither my eSATA NAS from NetGear nor my external eSATA drive will work with the WRT1900ac.
Linksys does have a compatibility chart - somewhere - but not in their spec listings of what works with their router.
If you want to use eSATA do your homework and see if your device is compatible.
Tough Luck if your device is not on the list.

Crashed and Burned after 44 Days - Good Luck
By vrs99
Fast SSD - and Extra Fast to Crash in just 44 days. Of course it was on a Friday evening and cannot speak to Samsung until Monday. Cannot Chat with them as they do not offer Chat for SSD's.
Luckily it crashed two weeks after the 30 day return period to Best Buy. Guess it is a good thing they offer 10 year warranty? But have heard they will return a refurbished unit, which will not be good on 44 day old product. Must be living on the bleeding edge, should have stuck with the Toshiba, which I can't see a real life difference in speed.
After a Day of Wrestling with the SSD
July 11, 2015
After pulling every rabbit out of my hat I finally got the SSD going again. Have to completely reload OS, etc. starting at Windows 8. Not fun.
But I am "somewhat" happy that I was able to get the drive working. Not sure what happen to the drive, but have some suspicion of a setting in Magician (software system for the 850 Pro) which boosts speed?

Excellent laptop, but not the best value
By Xephyroth from Colorado Springs, CO
This HP Omen is the 3rd gaming laptop I've ever owned, and it's undoubtedly the best one I've had the pleasure of using. However, this product isn't perfect out of the box.
FIRST IMPRESSION / UNBOXING:
Out of the box, the first thing that I noticed is that this laptop has impressive build quality. The sand-blasted brushing brings a pleasant aesthetic while also bringing solid weight and durability. It's not incredibly flashy, so it doesn't scream "gamer" like a lot of other laptops, but it definitely brings a touch of the "gamer" aesthetic without being overzealous. The notebook is also much thinner than I expected, as I've been used to much thicker gaming laptops, but I suppose the lack of an optical drive attributes to that. The power brick is fairly small and compact for a machine that's capable of entry/mid-level gaming.
DISPLAY:
Turning the display on, the 1080p IPS matte display is nice and bright, and viewing angles are decent without too much color shifting. Bezels aren't too large, and it's not something I noticed until just now while writing this review. While I'm used to Quad-HD and 4K resolutions, I was not displeased with this display in any fashion. The webcam is above the display and can record at 720p/30fps. Not the best, but not the worst webcam I've seen.
KEYBOARD:
Typing on the keyboard is pleasant with the chiclet-style keys. It didn't take me too long to get used to the keyboard, having come from mechanical keyboards and MacBook Pro keyboards. The addition of the num-pad is certainly nice, as well. The keyboard is backlit red (as you'd expect with the Omen), but settings are very simplistic compared to other gaming laptops. The backlighting has 3 states: fully on, WASD on, or fully off. No, there are no fancy effects, and I wouldn't expect any at this price. I do find it a little bit surprising that you can't dim the backlighting, but I rarely dim the backlight on my keyboards, anyway, so it'd be a useless feature for me.
TRACKPAD:
Out of the box, the trackpad sensitivity was incredibly low for my personal taste. After making some adjustments to the Touchpad Settings in Windows 10, I found a sensitivity that worked well for me. The touchpad does not physically click, but there are left/right trackpad buttons. Initially, I did find the buttons to be awkwardly placed, but I actually got used to them fairly quickly. While the touchpad isn't the best I've ever used, it is pretty good, in my opinion. 2 and 3 finger gestures work, as well.
SOUND:
The Bang & Olufsen speakers surprised me. They have good volume and a pleasant sound signature. However, they're bottom-firing, so when you put the laptop on your lap, the frequencies dampen and you lose a bit of treble/mid-range impact. Keep in mind, this is with the "B & O Play Experience" toggled on from the "Omen Audio" application. You'll definitely want to leave that on if you're using the speakers, or else the bass will disappear and will sound really anemic. I did notice some clipping at max volume when bass-heavy music was involved. Headphone jack works well as you'd expect, but doesn't promise anything fancy, so don't bother trying to drive headphones with high impedance. The built-in microphone array is good for video/voice chat session, but don't expect it to compete with a USB desktop microphone in terms of sound quality. For all casual purposes, it does just fine.
PERFORMANCE:
This laptop comes with a 4-core / 8-thread Intel Core i7 processor. For most basic tasks, this is actually overkill. But for gamers, this is great, as more games are utilizing more threads. The GTX 1050 can play any older game at very high settings, and can still play many modern titles at medium / high settings at 1080p. 8GB of RAM is enough for most people, but individuals who multi-task with a lot of resource-intensive chrome tabs and extensions may find themselves wanting more. While the 1TB hard drive is rated for 7200RPM, I still find it unacceptable to not have the operating system installed on a Solid State Drive (SSD) for a machine at this price point. You will not be unlocking the full potential of this machine while your OS runs on a slow drive like this. Thankfully, the upgrade process is fairly simple. After consulting the service manual found on HP's support website, I unscrewed the 10 screws from the bottom of the laptop and removed the bottom panel by starting with the side closest to the display hinge. From there, you'll have access to the SATA drive bay, the M.2 SSD slot (unoccupied, but does support NVMe drives), and 2 RAM slots (with only 1 occupied). I suspect that each RAM slot supports up to 8GB, but I could not find any confirmation in any of the documents available on HP's support website.
I happened to have an unused SATA-based SSD, so I swapped that with the 1TB HDD and used the software that came with my SSD to transfer the OS from the HDD to the SSD. After this process, my HP Omen was substantially faster with booting the OS and running applications—a night & day difference.
BATTERY:
I haven't tested the battery life to an enormous extent, but enabling a battery estimation feature in the BIOS allows Windows 10 to report the estimated time (not just %) on battery. Depending on your brightness, power profile and workload, HP estimates 9 hours of mixed usage, and almost 7 hours of video playback. So far, I think that claim is accurate.
I/O:
The HP Omen doesn't support Thunderbolt 3, but all the USB ports support USB 3.1 (1 Type-C, 3 Type-A. There's also a gigabit ethernet jack, HDMI (HDCP 2.2, 4k@60Hz), and Mini DisplayPort. It also supports a full-size SD card which can be fully inserted into the laptop without sticking out. As mentioned before, it also sports a headphone and microphone jack.
CONCLUSION:
The HP Omen is a great laptop. It provides great features while also having room for a few upgrade. However, I do feel that an SSD should be included at this price—even a cheaper SATA-based M.2 or 2.5" drive would be fine. For a performance-oriented machine like this, skimping on the SSD is a poor decision on HP's part—especially at this price-point. I have seen competitor's laptops with the i7-7700HQ, GTX 1060, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD go on sale for cheaper. So in that regard, I do feel the HP Omen isn't providing as good a value, but it is objectively a good laptop—perhaps, just not as good a value when compared to other options around the same price.

This machine looks like it is going fast sitting on the desktop. The exhaust system vents on the back edges of the laptop brings to mind the tailpipes a supercar might be sporting. When it is cranking through benchmarking the cooling system and exhaust ports are doing a job, pushing volumes of hot air away from the machine.
The HP Omen is the most bang for the buck that I have ever seen in a laptop, this box is loaded with edgy technology. Not going through a list of specs, those are easy enough to find, what is impressive is that all techs are up to date, not last year’s stuff. Too many times have seen corners cut to save a dollar. Not here. Not one USB 2.0 in sight, which is surprising seeing that we just built beast of a desktop a month ago with the latest Z270 Kaby Lake i7 7700K, USB 2.0 ports still in use on an advanced motherboard. Kudos to HP.
Take a close look at the specs, you will find 802.11ac with a solid 866.7 Mbps connection. “Dual Force functionality splits traffic across two data streams, sending gaming traffic over the fastest connection available (typically wired), and all other traffic over WiFi.”
Other ports of interest (not a complete listing check the spec sheet):
1 USB 3.1 Type C
3 USB 3.1
Mini DisplayPort
What I love is the fact you can purchase a HDD Omen model and then add your M.2 NVMe drive of choice, that is cool. If you are not yet familiar with M.2 NVMe you should take a look. In a word (or more) they are fast, about seven times that of a standard SSD.
What is interesting is that with the HDD the system boots up in 9 seconds, that is fully populated with my programs/anti-virus and all my files. Impressive. Being spoiled by SSD’s I must tip my hat to HP; this machine runs tremendously smooth with the 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 (4 GB GDDR5 dedicated memory) discrete GPU ran through the Unigine Heaven Benchmark smoothly turning good numbers while the cooling system kept the GPU at a respectable 68 degrees. Notable, that with all the heavy iron under the hood the system manages the temp easily.
Ran my favorite game, Civilization VI through its paces today set on the highest graphic settings and it ran like a champ.
Looks, it has the looks, brushed aluminum case with an excellent finish. Nice touches all-around.
Know it is a way cool machine as my kid, the gamer in the house is explaining all the great and subtle reasons why it would be better for him to hang onto the machine. Yeah right!
What I am getting use to is the keyboard offset, a bit to the left to make room for the full size numeric pad, which is a nice touch. Keyboard is fine and well suited for heavy accurate work, or gaming for that matter.
Want a blistering rig in your hands at an excellent price point, one that can kick it at games and can be easily expanded, check out The Omen.

Adding M.2 SSD
July 18, 2017
Added a M.2 SSD to the Omen and nuked all the partitions on the HDD and added it back to the system. Day and Night performance. That is one aspect I like about this model is that it does not come with an installed M.2 drive, you can pick your own SSD ads capacity.
Screams with the new M.2 and have an additionally terabyte of storage on the HDD, whcih I use to sync my files to frequently before syncing with the NAS.
Great machine.

Add stability to your home network with the Amped Wireless HELIOS-EX Wi-Fi Extender. With DirectLink technology, it avoids signal loss by adding another 5GHz Wi-Fi channel to the standard setup, which it then uses strictly for receiving signal from the source. This Amped Wireless HELIOS-EX Wi-Fi Extender covers an area of up to 12,000 sq. ft. and includes four Gigabit network ports.

Can this extender be connected with a hard wire from my router? or does it have to get its signal wireless from the router and then broadcast the wireless signal to computers. Where the extender located will better if its signal can be hard wired

Typically if you want to use a wire you will run it from your computer to the box, and that you can do with this device.

Which is better: AMD A8-Series or Intel® 4th Generation Core™ i3

I am going to purchase a new laptop and I've narrowed it down to either:the HP Pavilion 12-E017DX or the HP Pavilion 12-E019DX. The thing holding up my puchase it that I don't know what the diference is between the processors. I only use my laptop for general use...email, web surfing, facebook, etc. Can someone please tell me what the difference is and which one is better? Thanks
Personally without going and looking at the specs of the AMD card I would recommend going with the i3. The Intel chips are superior and deliver more performance for the price.

If you can stretch it go for the Haswell i5 which offers superior performance over the i3 and sips juice from the battery. Good Luck
