So Far, so Good

I have had this refrigerator for a couple of weeks. It replaced a refrigerator from another maker than failed after about 14 months, which itself was a replacement for a refrigerator from that same other maker that failed after about 3 years. Both of these other refrigerators developed leaks in the sealed system, so I was looking for a model that had a parts and labor warranty on the sealed system of at least 5 years. This KitchenAid comes with a relatively good warranty.
The freezer section is about 13.5 inches wide and the trays in the freezer are about 13 inches deep, which is larger than some other models, which I like.
The refrigerator is relatively quiet, but occasionally makes a faint high-pitched whirring sound, which I will have to get used to.
My wife does not like the water dispenser in that the location of the spot where the water comes out is a little too close to the back, so water tends to be spilled a bit.
All in all, we are happy with the refrigerator, but cannot judge durability until a few years from now.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Died after 14 months

I originally purchased a prior similar Samsung model in March of 2011. The sealed system of that unit leaked after less than 3 years and Samsung refunded the purchase price. Figuring that it was a fluke, I replaced it with this model, and the sealed system developed at least two leaks after about 14 months and again Samsung refunded the purchase price.
I suppose this is just really bad luck (what are the odds of a lemon: maybe 1%?), but - under severe penalty from my spouse - I cannot buy another Samsung refrigerator. If something like this happens, it takes at least several weeks to resolve. Imagine the inconvenience and spoiled food, etc. We bought a "second" smaller refrigerator to place in the garage to help bridge the gap.
Other than that, I liked it.
Based on this experience, any model I do buy must have a warranty (Parts AND Labor) on the sealed system of at least 5 years.
SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS just in case. You may not get the full amount refunded unless you have the receipt (as I learned on the first one).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

does this refridgerator replace the 24cubic foot counter depth model?
I bought a 24 cubic foot Samsung counter depth refrigerator last year. Many people complained about the long time it took to make ice. Is this the model that replaces it? How does the storage capacity compare? I assume its less.
Not sure. I actually had a 25.7 cubic foot model from 2011 (if I remember correctly) that I replaced with this model, and we did not notice a difference.
By the way, both of mine died after <3 years and 14 months, respectively.

is it available without water and ice thru-the- door
is it available without water and ice in the door ?
No. Of course you might not hook up the water and maybe take out the ice making bin. Not sure what that does to your warranty, if anything.
