I tried out the 880 and 980. IMO if you are going to buy an Irobot, get the 980. Yes it costs more bu the algorithm is much better than the 880. It also has carpet boost mode. I also tried the Neato vacuum as well. The Neato vacuums faster but does not clean as thoroughly. My house is 1500 square feet downstairs and roughly the same for the upstairs. The Roomba took close to 9 hours to vacuum the entire 1500 square feet.
IMO these are not completely ready for prime time. For me, the vacuums required constant supervision, When I would leave it alone in the house it would get stuck somewhere. One nice feature about the 980 is that it has a pager so, when it is lost somewhere, you can page it which makes it easier to find. Otherwise you have to check under the furniture to try and find it.
So, when I was watching the device, it worked great and when it would get stuck I would be able to fix it. IMO, if i have to watch the device, I would rather just vacuum myself.
Also, I did a test once with the Roomba. I let it vacuum the upstairs and wait for it to be done. Then 30 minutes later I pulled out my older Dyson upright and vacuumed the same areas. The upright picked up more than the Roomba did. It was not slightly more but definitely noticeable.

Keep floors clean with this Wi-Fi-enabled iRobot Roomba robot vacuum. Its AeroForce cleaning system with automatic Carpet Boost function provides thorough cleaning of dirtier spots, and its iAdapt 2.0 navigation with visual localization ensures complete floor coverage. Schedule and monitor the operation of this iRobot Roomba robot vacuum through voice or remotely via the iRobot HOME app.

Previously to the 980, I had the 880. The 980 has a much better algorithm and is easier to operate. I had this unit for 5 days now. Two of the days have been successful in cleaning the house. The others have not been. The 2 days that were successful, was when I was at home. The other 3 had issues, where stuff got tangled in it, it thought it saw a cliff and it could not find its home base. I also noticed that when it vacuums, it tends to move the base so, then the thing cannot access the base.
I guess it was to assign a grade, it would be that 50-60% of the time, was successful the rest was not. A couple of instances, when it had issues, it would require me to intervene and then would tell me that the job was complete when it was not. The last 3 failures resulted in the house not getting completely vacuumed.
I was expecting much more for a $1000. To a certain extent, if I have to monitor it while being at home, it would be faster for me just to vacuum the house. Also, I have a 3000 square foot house. The downstairs took close to 8 hours to get done and the upstairs was about the same. I also tested the vacuum in Auto Carpet Boost mode after it was done vacuuming and my Dyson upright picked up way more from the carpet than the Roomba did. So, this is by no means a vacuum replacement but more of a supplement

I really wanted to love this router

I am coming from an Asus rt-n66. I was very pleased with its performance until I had a problem connecting to it. So, off I went to Best Buy and purchased the state of the art router.
First of all, the coverage is awesome throughout the house. I did not realize how awesome it was until I used the meter to measure the signal strength and throughput.
After the 3rd day, I got home and the wife was upset. The 2.4 channel went down. It was down for about 3 hours and magically restored itself. I tried everything to revive it during those 3 hours but nothing worked. I tried rebooting the router, re-flashing the firmware, changing channels. Both of the 5 bands were fine along with the hardwire connections, it was just the one 2.4 that was the problem.
The next day, i called Tech Support and they walked me through some things. It was solid for about 6 hours and started to hiccup. This time it was temporary and would only be down for about 1 minute at a time.
Last night, it kept going up and down. This was mainly the Apple equipment. My Android phone and PC's were fine. So, at this point, I have only had the router for 6 days and I was done. I have since plugged in my old router. It is zippy fast but the coverage is nowhere as great as the Netgear. I really wanted to love this router.

nighthawk x6 question

I currently have a suddenlink wireless modem. I wanted to replace the rented modem for something that would also support 3 smart tvs, 4 smart phones, 2 gaming systems, etc. I was told that this nighthawk x6 would replace the modem and have enough power to support everything. As I am getting ready to install it, I realize that I still need the rented modem. Is there another alternative to purchase something that will support all of the devices, or will I need to purchase a modem plus this router?
Are you referring to a cable modem? If so, then you might be able to get away with the Motorola surfboard modem/router combo. Just make sure that Motorola surfboard modems are compatible with your cable provider.

The router that you have, the X6, is the best and fastest out there. My router would constantly drop signals so, I have to get rid of it. The wife is tired of the connections going up and down.

I am not sure the Motorola Surfboard modem/router combo will handle all that traffic. Depending on what is being played/watched at the same time might cause the connection to be really slow.

The other option would be to keep the X6 and buy a modem. That would be my suggestion.
