Amazing Political Commentary

Keeping with the tradition of all great EP's, Prepare to Be Wrong leaves you wanting more.... alot more. This is an outstanding EP by a band that should be known by many more. The opening song "I dont want this anymore" shows off the eclectic side of Straylight Run. It is, by far, the weakest song on the EP. It never gets easier is full of quirky keyboard effects, a sing along chorus, and foot tapping rhythm. However to juxtapose the sun in the sky sound, the lyrics show the more troubling side of this band, and their potrayal of struggles of everyday life. The third song, Later That Year, begins the theme of the rest of the EP, "the pointless and politically motivated war". The combination of brother and sister, John and Michelle Nolan, singing the chorus arouses tears, the the somber, simple guitar and keyboards enhance the power of the message. This is an incredibly moving song. A slow descent portrays similar feelings. It mentions the struggles of Straylight Run, and how every song they write is somehow tied back to the split that saw Nolan leave Taking Back Sunday. The piano is a mezzo-forte masterpiece, and the accenting drums provide the perfect fill. Keeping with the trend, it is not a highly innovative piece, however it is, in essence absolutely serene and pure. The next song, Hands in the sky, is undoubtebly the most aggressive song on this EP, and perhaps that Straylight Run has ever wrote. It is thicker in texture than the other songs once again picks up the theme of being used by the government. Lastly, With God On Our Side, a Bob Dylan cover, wraps up the cd in a most appropriate way. It is a masterful cover, alternating the original however not distorting its message.
This EP is perfect. It flows togethor perfectly, and is more of an 'album' than any 12 song cd put out in the last 20 years. The feel of each song is varied enough to not be repetitive, however they also have a carrying theme in the lyrics and music of distress and coping, the eternal balance act between disaster and satisfaction. You DO NOT have to be a Straylight Run fan to appreciate this EP. You simply have to enjoy music for music's sake. To entertain, to explain, to comfort.
What's great about it: Thought provoking lyrics, nice timbre variety
What's not so great: Its not a full length album!!!:(
