55" Samsung 4k Smart TV
on June 18, 2016

While I was at Best Buy looking for a media streaming device, I saw the 55" Samsung 4K Ultra HD Smart TV (Model UN55KU6290FXZA) on sale for $700. The BB rep called it the Memorial Day special and told me it was a 2016 model. The 65" model was almost $1600! I made a mental note to do more research on this TV when I got home.
I ended up buying an NVIDIA Shield Android TV media streamer which supports 4K resolution. When I got home, I researched the 55" 4K Samsung TV and realized this was a sweet deal and it has great reviews so I decided now was the time for me to make my move and buy my first 4K Smart television as my LG TV only went up to 1080p.
I've now owned the 55" Samsung 4K Ultra HD Smart TV (Model UN55KU6290FXZA) for over two weeks and I am very happy with my purchase! I also bought the VIZIO 3.1-Channel Soundbar System with Wireless Subwoofer. The picture is great, the sound is awesome with the soundbar and sub, and it works wonderfully with my NVIDIA Shield, and the Smart TV functions not only allow me to stream Netflix and several other services, but it also allows me to use PLEX Media Server and stream all my TV Shows, movies, music, and photos that are on my computer's hard drive! I almost brought back the NVIDIA Shield for a refund after finding out the TV itself supports PLEX but I have come to love the fact that I can stream any of my PC games to my 4K Samsung using GameStream through the NVIDIA Shield. Playing PC games in 4K resolution is simply amazing.
Let me finish my review with pros and cons of the television.
PROS:
-Great picture and colors and no noticeable latency when watching fast moving video like sports or action movies.
-Easy hook-up to NVIDIA Shield and the soundbar speaker system. The TV was very easy to set up and get started watching movies and playing games.
-Plenty of HDMI plugs in the back for input. 3 in total.
-Has an Optical Audio port input.
-The Smart TV has worked perfectly and with it natively supporting PLEX, you can easily set up your computer to work either wired or wireless to stream all your media to the TV.
Cons:
-TV doesn't support Bluetooth at all so my bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and game controller are useless with this TV. Thankfully I have the NVIDIA Shield which works with them all.
-You need to buy $40 HDMI cables to support 4K resolution. I had to buy two of them since I have two 4K devices. If I get a 4K Blu-Ray player, I'll need another one unless I want to keep switching the cables back and forth.
-The TV remote control is very basic and it can't act as a universal remote so with the soundbar, my NVIDIA Shield, and cable, I have a cluster of remotes to fumble through to turn up the sound or change the channel, etc.
Important tips to make this TV ready to use out of the box:
1. Make sure to buy the right HDMI cables for 4K resolution to work and get one for each 4K device you will be plugging into the TV, up to three. If you will be using devices that don't support 4K, buy cheaper HDMI cables and save yourself some money.
I bought Monster - Gold Series 5' In-Wall HDMI A/V Cable for my 4K devices.
Model: MC GLD UHD-5
2. If you are going to be streaming 4K resolutions WIRELESSLY to your TV, make sure your router can support either 802.11n or 802.11ac Wi-Fi. If your router doesn't support these protocols, you will not have enough speed to wirelessly stream 4K content! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW!
That is all I can think of right now. Good luck and I hope this review helps you make a decision about your purchase!

I would recommend this to a friend!
