A privileged middle-class girl raised in rural southern England gets a rude awakening to the world when a family move forces her to contend with the unseemly inhabitants of a northern mill town in director Brian Percival's adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's timeless love story. When her family is uprooted and forced to move to the northern mill town of Milton, the prim and proper country girl is notably contemptuous of her new working class neighbors - and especially of charismatic mill owner John Thornton (Richard Armitage.

I am a Masterpiece Theadre junkie as well as a BBC movie addict and enjoyed so many of the productions. My favorite is the lengthy Pride & Prej. (1996) with Colin Firth. BUT after seeing this movie...I can honestly say it is now my most favorite! The last 15 minutes is the most romantic scene I have ever seen in any movie ever! I cried! Now I have to go and watch it! If you are a romantic...you must see this movie!
I am a soundtrack junkie and thought that I might like this one because I enjoyed the movie. I was disappointed that this soundtrack was not as I expected. Very boring and nearly put me to sleep. But I am hopeful that the next sequel will be good...but I won't be buying the soundtrack.
