one of doyle lawson's best vocalists returns

if you are a fan of doyle lawson & quicksilver (their gospel work in particular) you will truly enjoy this first solo outing of former quicksilver vocalist barry scott with his new band second wind. a couple of tracks that barry wrote and recorded with doyle lawson appear here (new versions) as well and they fit in just fine with the newer tracks. i've enjoyed barry scott during his 10+ years with quicksilver and have been anticipating his solo effort for some time. jamie dailey who was also in quicksilver when barry scott was as already found success in duo dailey/vincent. this barry scott album has been available for about a year already but gets an official label release from rebel records. its definitely worth it if you enjoy the genre!
What's great about it: beautiful harmonies
What's not so great: it took a year to get an official label release

don't let the subtitles scare u from being scared

I was unfortunate to have watched "quarantine" before this movie - which is a scene for scene remake of this spanish movie "rec". the final ten minutes made this pretty good movie (i also liked quarantine) turn into a truly horrifying viewing experience - which is a good thing :). i rarely post reviews here but i had to after seeing no one else had...yet. i know the subtitles turn a lot of people away - but there is a english dub on this dvd - which i didn't do so i'm not sure how different that makes the experience exactly. i highly recommend this film. i love horror films and watch all things horror - good and bad. rarely am i impressed as much as this film did to me. i haven't been this exciited about a horror film since "the descent".
What's great about it: the final ten minutes are truly horrifying
What's not so great: "quarantine" stole its thunder so watch this first

Whether you are a loyal Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver fan or if this is your first introduction - what a gift this album is to bluegrass and gospel fans alike. Doyle Lawson returns with his latest incarnation of the Quicksilver band he has led over the past four decades and counting. With each change of band members every few years it only revigorates an already quite impressive run of albums and peformances to date. I was skeptic when I had heard Barry Scott and Jamie Dailey had left the band to form their own projects after being with Doyle for the past decade or so. I was not disappointed and pleasantly surprised by "Help Is On The Way." One of the best albums in the Doyle Lawson catalog - his way of choosing the right musicians, singers, and songs is simply amazing. This album is amazing!
What's great about it: Beautiful heavenly harmonies
What's not so great: It eventually ends lol

Best vampire movie ever
on March 5, 2008

Not being a fan of vampire flicks other than "lost boys" back in the day - i was pleasantly surprised by this different take on the genre. These vampires were more like zombies to me other than they were strong, fast, and intelligent. Some great gore effects and decent acting make this one of the better horror flicks of 2007. I recommend the graphic novel also. The only downside (if any) was the ending was kind of lame as it tried to make some kind of love story out of the two main characters whom I was never truly interested in to beign with. If it was dark there so often couldn't they have hid him in a basement or something until the next thirty days came around? Just me...
What's great about it: bloody brilliant
What's not so great: lame ending

New Low In Zombie Genre
on March 5, 2008

On the sleeve for this dvd it quotes bloodydisgusting.com "one of the best zomibe films in decades" and moviethunder.com "a completely brutal gore fest that shockingly redefines the zombie genre." Both lies. I can understand a low budget independent horror film might be lacking in effects and good actors - but this really brings the zombie genre to a new low. This film is a piece of ****. I love zombie movies and have seen several bad and several good. This is one of the worst in recent memory. I took a chance and bought this **** of a film by judging the art on its cover and the previously mentioned quotes. It does not deserve a place in my movie collection. Never again will i buy a dvd before renting it...ever.
What's great about it: Gore and lots of it
What's not so great: No budget whatsoever

I too was anticpating this release after years of listening to Tonic. I was pleasantly surprised with the direction Emerson Hart took with his first solo effort. The lead single "If You're Gonna Leave" reminds me so much of his Tonic days. "I Wish The Best For You" is the second single and really showcases him as a solo artist. "Hills Of California" and "When She Loves You" are two other standout tracks. A great cd from a very talented artist.
What's great about it: If you love Tonic you will love this cd
What's not so great: Slight slower than his Tonic tunes but not in a bad way
