Review for Parents and Casual Users:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I hesitate to call this a "kids" tablet. With its quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, and 5000 mAH Li-Poly battery, it is powerful enough to do anything I would want to do. However, there are a few things that make this perfect for kids.
1.) It is cheap. At $70, it is no big loss when they inevitably break it. It isn't built like a tank, but the build quality isn't half bad. I've seen some complaints about the screen not being indestructible. Just make sure you impress upon the younger kids that they should never hit or push hard on the screen, or leave it anywhere where someone can sit or step on it and you should be golden. My twin 4-year-olds have yet to destroy their tablets.
2.) Adults may be turned off by the low resolution and poor viewing angle of the screen, but kids will just be delighted that the screen is BIG. Plus, it looks pretty good if you catch just the right angle... and kids tend to get right up close to the screen, so it is easy for them to stay in the "sweet spot".
3.) The speakers get loud... loud enough, anyway. I've gone through 3 other models of "bargain" tablets, and this one has the loudest/best sound of the bunch.
4.) 16 GB allows plenty of games to be installed, especially if you disable/uninstall most of the pre-installed google & productivity apps. Just remember to move the games to "internal memory" after you install them and you won't find yourself uninstalling games at your kids' bidding to make room for other games, which then have to be uninstalled to make room for the game you just uninstalled, and so on...
5.) I have yet to encounter a single game that would not run on the tablet, and even the demanding ones run pretty smoothly. You won't hear many (if any) complaints about games loading slowly or running choppy before next year's incredi-cheap Black Friday tablet hits the shelves.

Review for Geeks and Power Users:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
You don't need me to discuss the specs. The thing is cheap, powerful for the price, and loaded with hardware goodies. You already know what you want to do with it. Here is the only info I can offer to you.
1) I've e-mailed customer support. Twice. And they replied both times in 15-30 minutes. Not bad!
2) At the time of this writing, Wireless Update A1008L_V1.4 is available for download. I wish I had checked what version it came installed with from the factory, because...
3) If you search for root info, you'll find that A1008L_V1.2 is confirmed to be rootable. I've not yet attempted to root V1.4, but if any brave individuals choose to try it, you would be doing a public service by posting a comment to share your experience. I will do the same.

Not Quad Core; only Dual Core. Still Great!
on August 27, 2014

The first thing anyone should know about this tablet is that it is a dual core processor, not a quad core as the product page indicates. Search Google for the product's model number (ME-107-D-8GB-BLK) and you'll find the manufacturer's website where the true specs are given.
That said, this tablet is still impressive enough at the $50 price point that I've purchased a 2nd one for my boys because they fight over who gets to use it! I picked up a pair of $50 tablets for the kiddos on black Friday and one of them broke, which is why I purchased this tablet in the first place. The difference between the Prestige Pro 7D and the less-than-year-old tablets is staggering.
The Prestige Pro 7D plays games like Angry Birds GO, Angry Birds Epic, and Despicable Me Minions Rush without skipping a beat... super impressive graphics and speed with no stuttering or slowdown. The old tablet won't even run these games!
So far, the battery life has been adequate. Better than the tablets they replaced, but nothing amazing. Time will tell if the battery continues to hold its charge for several hours of constant use. But at $50, I cannot recommend this tablet enough for entertainment on the go or to keep the kids occupied. If it gets broken or otherwise flakes out, there is no great loss. If it lasts for a year or more, then you'll have gotten a tremendous return on your investment in this tablet.

Proof that 2D film can make a good 3D movie.
on December 29, 2010
Posted by: nullity
from Frontenac, KS
I'm in the habit of reviewing 3D Blu-ray titles primarily on the merit of their 3D quality, especially when the title being reviewed is as well known as Alice in Wonderland. Insofar as the movie in general goes, I can only say:
Tim Burton. Johnny Depp. Classic Lewis Carroll. Enough said... if you are buying this, you probably already know that you are going to like the movie in terms of story, acting, and production value.
The 3D content, however, warrants further discussion. While the bulk of this movie is computer rendered animation which by default lends itself well to 3D, the human actors and real-world scenes were all shot using 2D cameras and converted to 3D post-production. This is an area where other movies currently available have pretty much failed... just read the reviews for Clash of the Titans and The Last Airbender here on BestBuy.com if evidence is needed that most people are less than impressed with 2D-to-3D conversions. Alice in Wonderland, however, does not disappoint!
The scenes at the beginning and end of this movie were shot in 2D and are mostly devoid of computer animation, yet contain a level of 3D depth that goes above and beyond its peers. It has been said that Burton filmed this movie with 3D in mind, and it shows. What "3D in mind" means exactly is anyone's guess, but it seems that great care and precision was taken in separating details as fine as a lock of hair from the background behind it. Scenes where actors and set pieces are plentiful are reminiscent of a diorama with obvious layers of depth. Not quite as impressive as native 3D, but significantly better than any other 2D conversion I've seen.
The 3D fun really begins when Alice tumbles down the rabbit hole and takes her first steps into the vividly-colored and Burton-styled Wonderland. Jaws will drop. It is easy to forget how much of this movie is computer-rendered thanks to the seamless inclusion of live actors (at least the parts of them that aren't rendered), and that may also be part of why the 3D seems so effective when compared to other 2D conversions. Whatever the reason for its efficaciousness, the 3D in this movie is a joy to behold.
Slowly but surely, the number of Blu-ray 3D movies worth buying is growing. This title will make a great addition to pretty much anyone's collection.
What's great about it: Visually stunning, proves that 2D to 3D conversions can look good.

Great 3D, Great Family Movie!
on December 29, 2010

I'm always complaining about the lack of grown-up movies and the abundance of children's movies available in the Blu-ray 3D format, but today I find myself grateful for the imbalance as I never would have watched this movie if not for the lack of alternatives. Beyond having a thoroughly enjoyable plot laden with endearing characters and humor for all ages (some of which only adults will appreciate), this movie sports some of the best 3D currently available on the platform.
Many of the 3D titles currently available suffer from image ghosting, but there were very few instances of ghosting in Despicable Me. This may be attributed to its lack of attempts at over-the-top "OH MY GOODNESS STUFF IS FLYING OUT OF MY TV" effects, but a true sense of depth pervades every scene and is much more enjoyable to this viewer than the ugliness that comes with such effects. On an unrelated note, there are some treats in this movie for you If you have a good sound system (particularly subwoofers that go below 20Hz).
If you are lucky enough to have kids -and- a 3DTV, then you owe it to your family to buy this movie right now. Even if you have no children, this is a fun 3D super-villain romp that will reaffirm the wisdom of your 3DTV purchase.
Note: I'd posted this review on the original 3D Blu-ray listing for Despicable Me but somehow that product no longer shows up in the correct category. I've re-posted my review here because at the moment there is only one other review and I strongly disagree with the one star rating.
What's great about it: Great story, Great 3D, Great Audio, Great bonus features
What's not so great: Sets a high standard that not many other 3D movies can follow.

Short but sweet.

As an astronomy and science junkie, I was delighted to see a 3D offering from A&E's The Universe and had pretty high expectations for it. Overall, this film is a mixed bag with more good than bad, but I'm glad I picked it up on sale.
Most expectations were met, such as high quality renderings of space scenes and good narration/content that is easy to grasp and enjoyable to listen to. Some of the content, however, bordered on being too elementary, such as the poorly rendered HUD and spaceship that takes the viewer on a tour of the solar system... in both concept and execution, this gives the viewer the impression that the film is geared toward young children when the actual content is mostly around high school level.
The 3D effect is good as this film consists of a mixture of rendered 3D content and live action footage that appears to have been shot with a 3D camera. When the effect isn't ruined by ghosting it can be quite impressive. It seems that space doesn't lend itself too well to current 3D technology; just as with the IMAX 3D Space Station film, there is plenty of ghosting when black backgrounds dominate the scene. That isn't to say all of the space scenes have excessive ghosting, though. For instance, the 3D footage of the Sun from NASA's twin satellites (cleverly named STEREO) is truly a sight to behold.
At a scant 44 minutes, this is an entertaining and interesting 3D journey through our solar system that should fit within the attention span of its target audience.
What's great about it: Only 44 minutes long, most of the computer animation looks great, good 3D effect
What's not so great: Only 44 minutes long, no bonus features, some of the computer animation looks dated and cheesy, some ghosting issues.

3D - Expectations vs. Reality
on December 3, 2010
Posted by: nullity
from Frontenac, KS
As one of the few non IMAX or children's animated movies available in the Blu-ray 3D format, this title found its way into my collection. My expectations for the 3D effects were in line with reality, so I'm pretty happy with the purchase. It is in my opinion an exciting action movie with good special effects and enough 3D depth to help draw you into the experience. In a nutshell, do not expect the 3D to be on par with Avatar or any other native 3D movie.
See, this movie was shot using a 2D camera, and later converted to 3D. I did not see it in 3D at the theaters, but by most accounts it was a terrible 3D conversion. I have read that Warner Brothers remastered the 3D for the Blu-ray release, and I am inclined to believe it because I did not find the 3D to be terribly underwhelming for what it is. I am certain, however, that other reviewers will post negative reviews stating that they couldn't tell if the movie was 2D or 3D and whatnot... just as they did with The Last Airbender (which was also shot in 2D).
If you buy this movie expecting world-class 3D effects, prepare to be disappointed. The reality of it is that any 3D conversion will not be as perfect as a true 3D movie, just as paintings are not as realistic as photographs. If you buy this movie because you want something in 3D that you can watch with buddies over a few beers, you might be satisfied... just be sure to start the night with a few minutes of some IMAX film or kids movie to show them what 3DTV -can- do.
What's great about it: A 3D movie that isn't a documentary or kids movie!
What's not so great: Not native 3D, so don't expect your mind to be blown.

Disappointing for all but the NASA enthusiast.

I must agree with the previous reviewer that this title would best be rented rather than purchased unless you are a huge fan of NASA or similar programs. And yes, the first 3.5 minutes is not in 3D, but that is a minor gripe compared to the other letdowns in this movie.
I am into astronomy and have great interest in science, but even I found this title to be fairly boring. I hate saying that because 'boring' is such a subjective term, but a good deal of this documentary was shot on the ground and contains talking heads. When you think about other 3D IMAX titles, you think of stunning views and pop-out-of-the-screen 3D. 3D doesn't do too much for talking heads. There is some impressive 3D content to be sure (toward the end for instance, one astronaut throws a tennis ball at the camera and it appears to come right out at you), but the vast majority of this movie suffers from terrible ghosting/crosstalk on what should be impressive vistas or interesting interior shots of the space station.
This is one title that I would not recommend picking up until it hits the clearance racks... at least for most people. If you teach a high school science class and have 3DTV in the classroom, this might be right up your alley.
What's great about it: 3D is occasionally impressive, very educational title.
What's not so great: 47 minutes feels like several hours, much of the documentary was not shot in space, severe ghosting in many scenes.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

3D at its finest

Like many 3DTV owners, I am starving for 3D blu-ray titles. There isn't too much out there for adults right now, but there is no shortage of animated children's movies. I purchased this movie because my son likes it and the urge to expand my 3D blu-ray collection got the better of me. I'm glad my willpower was lacking- this is a pretty entertaining little movie for the whole family with some adult humor stealthily embedded from time to time. Plus, the 3D effect is top notch... perhaps the best title in my collection for demonstrating my 3DTV's capabilities to visitors, and that's saying a lot as I have 11 3D blu-ray titles.
If you have young children or simply want to wow visitors, you can't go wrong with this movie.
What's great about it: 3D effect is top tier

3D - Not the best, but far from the worst.
on November 22, 2010
Posted by: nullity
from Frontenac, KS
I hate to admit that I've not finished watching this movie, yet here I am posting a review. I have newborn twin boys who see to it that I can't watch a movie start to finish in one session, so I cannot review the movie's plot or content beyond stating that so far it isn't as bad as I had expected from all of the bad reviews. But reviewing the plot is not why I'm here; I'm here to talk about the 3D quality of this movie. With so many people bashing it, I had to see the 3D for myself and respond with my observations.
I almost decided against purchasing this movie because of the negative reviews on bestbuy.com in which the authors seem like they were personally offended by the 3D quality. I took a chance on this movie anyway because, frankly, I wanted a live-action 3D movie I could share with friends over a 6-pack. Can't really do that with all the IMAX and children's films that until recently were about all you could find in 3D. I'm relieved to say that while this movie wouldn't be my first choice to use as demo material to show off what a 3D TV can do, the 3D isn't half bad and does help draw you into the movie. Perhaps I'm just a cheap date, but there is plenty of depth (even in the magic effects, at least to my eyes) with minimal ghosting.
Reviewers on this site claim that the 3D is bad because the movie wasn't shot in 3D, and that the software 2D-to-3D conversion feature on most 3DTVs does better than the film's native 3D effects. One even goes so far as to claim that this film's 3D is nothing more than a TV's 2D to 3D algorithm captured to Blu-ray. Valid points in theory, but a few counterpoints in practice:
1.) Shyamalan contracted Stereo D LLC to do the 2D to 3D conversion for between $5-10 million. Stereo D LLC is a big name in 3D that did conversion work for a little movie called Avatar as well. If all they do is what our 3DTVs do, then I'm going to quit my day job and put my television to work for Hollywood at the discount rate of $1 million per movie conversion!
2.) Not all 3D movies are filmed in 3D. Granted, 2D to 3D conversions are not all created equal. Even at their best they will not be as perfect as native 3D, but there have been other movies shot in 2D and converted that looked just fine. Take for instance Alice in Wonderland.
If you are looking for the ultimate 3D showcase, then there are better options than this movie. If you're a huge fan of The Last Airbender and want all of the bonus materials, then get the collector's edition. If you're looking for a 3D movie that isn't a documentary or animated children's movie, then you might just be happy with this purchase given the lack of alternatives currently on the market.
What's great about it: It is not a documentary or animated movie, Pretty decent 3D, Good surround sound & bass if you have a good sound system.
What's not so great: Some might miss the bonus features (that seem to be missing from most 3D bu-rays)

Don't buy the 3d bluray!!!!!
By Jsanga from Murrieta, CA
The only reason this movie gets a 1star rating from me is because of the 3d bluray!
DONT BUY THE 3D BLURAY!!! Save your money and just buy the regular bluray!!!
I bought the 3d version and had forgotten that this movie was NOT filmed in 3d..so all they did was what your 3d tvs do when they convert 2d to 3d.. which as everyone knows isnt that great! I really wish I could get my money back and just buy the regular version..
it's a pretty good movie but do NOT waste your money with the 3d version.. it's not EVEN comparable to Monsters vs Aliens, Cloudy with a chance.., My Bloody Valentine.. the 3d in this movie SUCKS...
i do look forward to a sequel because there is sooo much potential for GREAT 3d from the cinematography..
you've been warned! haha

Correction...
November 18, 2010
I plan to purchase this movie tonight and will pitch in my $0.02 on the quality of 3D (and the movie in general), but I feel compelled to point out that this movie was filmed in 2D and then later converted to 3D by a company called Stereo D LLC a mere two months before it hit theaters. Feel free to google it.
I also feel compelled to point out that Alice in Wonderland was filmed in 2D, too, so this doesn't preclude a movie from having good 3D... however, it was done with 3D conversion in mind from the start rather than a last minute afterthought. I look forward to comparing the two movies- that is, if Alice is ever released outside the realm of Sony's exclusive license.

Don't hold your breath for Avatar 3D...
December 3, 2010
Two things:
1. Avatar 3D is a Panasonic exclusive. The only way to get it until sometime in 2011/2012 will be to purchase a Panasonic 3DTV or a Panasonic Blu-Ray 3D player w/ Glasses bundle. Or you can spend $300-400 on an auction site to get it 2nd hand.
2. The 3D isn't as great as native 3D content as seen in the IMAX and children's animated movies that are currently available, but it is on par with the 2D-to-3D conversions on all other non-kid movies available at the moment, such as Clash of the Titans.
Perhaps it is just my understanding of the technology that makes me forgiving of this movie's 3D effects, but I'm really puzzled why people are so critical. There is a clear sense of depth. This movie was not shot with a 3D camera. It is not going to be comparable to Avatar in terms of 3D. If you can get past that, you might enjoy the 3D Blu-ray offering of this movie.

Disappointed with the 3D
By SamQuarm from Laurel, MD
The movie is good but don't waste your money on the 3D. I played on a sony 3d player and the PS3 and "God" the only good with it is the HD. I have seen Planet SOS on the comcast free 3D movies and that was 3D. I am disappointed because this is the first 3D movie I spent my money on but the outcome was not welcoming. And yes I am running on the latest firmware so I should get the best of 3D. If you want to see 3D check out the comcast 3D movies and click free. Try out planet SOS. After that you will understand what 3D is.

I have to disagree...
December 29, 2010
I respect the original reviewer's opinion and his/her right to express it, but I feel the negative review and one-star rating does a disservice to anyone looking to buy a good 3D family movie. This movie is in my opinion one of the best available today in terms of 3D effect (outside of exclusives like Avatar that not everybody can buy).
My 3D Blu-ray player is a Sony... in fact it is the least expensive 3D Blu-ray player sold by Best Buy from any manufacturer. My television is Samsung; again, it is the least expensive 1080p 3D 50" Plasma sold by Best Buy. If my entry-level home theater can deliver stunning 3D from this title, I'm inclined to believe that the original reviewer either has some kind of problem with his/her system's configuration (despite sounding knowledgeable about such things) or has a unique definition of what constitutes a good 3D experience. I'm inclined to believe the former since his/her Comcast service (which tops out at 720p) delivers satisfying 3D... perhaps the HDMI cables to his/her Blu-ray player and PS3 are not version 1.4 or 1.3x cat2, or are routed through an AVR on ports that do not support 3D pass-through?
Whatever the case may be, if you have concerns about this movie's 3D and are considering passing it up on this merit alone, please at the very least see if your local Best Buy will let you try before you buy. I'd bet you'll be glad you did.

For those who says and are going to say that the 3D is disappointing or poor, I will disagree.
All 3D movies should be fine as long as you have the right equipments.
3D is not meant to be disappointing.
I have several 3D movies and they all work very well.
Even if the 3D Player has the latest version, for a better experience, keep the player connected to the network.
In my opinion, I can honestly say TRON is the best 3D movie yet.
3D will always work its best with high models of equipments and I understand they are expensive.

Yes and no, IMO.
April 18, 2011
I agree with the original poster that the 3D in this movie is outstanding, but I disagree that it requires the most expensive equipment. I own the least expensive 50" Samsung Plasma 3DTV that was available on BB.com at the time when i bought it, and also purchased the least expensive Blu-ray 3D player to go along with it (it was actually a $150 3D-ready Sony player that required a firmware update to enable the 3D functionality). My HDMI cable is nothing special, just the least expensive 1.3x one I could find that was long enough. I literally have the least expensive 50" 3D rig one could hope to purchase and it is known for blowing the minds of all who visit my house.
I strongly disagree with the first commenter who stated that Tron has the worst 3D. My opinion couldn't be more the polar opposite... Tron: Legacy is among the best (if not the best) in my collection of 15~ 3D movies. It was shot in true 3D and uses the Cameron\Pace Fusion 3D system that was used in both Avatar and Resident Evil.

Nice 3d

If I am not mistaking, this was converted to 3d for blu. Not a bad job though. It had some nice depth to it. I really only bought it for the 3d. I saw it when it was released years ago on dvd so I knew the storyline. I can't down it for the story because I already knew it. Considering its an old movie that is now in 3d the price is reduce a tad bit. Could be a few bucks cheaper though. Eventually it will. I am just building up my 3d library. There is no regret on the purchase so its a keeper.

Seems like this is true 3D.

The 3D in this movie is so good that I had to research your statement that this was a 2D to 3D conversion. From what I can find, this was released in Imax 3D as well and it is stated that Sony decided fairly late in the production process to go 3D. Seeing as how this is fully computer animated, it would not be subject to the limitations of traditional 2D film (i.e. it can be re-rendered in 3D whereas film would need to be re-shot). It also is listed under the 'real' column on a prominent website that lists all 3D movies as 'real' or 'fake' 3D.
So, while I couldn't find any evidence to decisively conclude whether or not the 3D in this movie was applied at the point of rendering, I must state that if this is a 2D conversion then it has better 3D than most native 3D movies.

Add a sleek look to your home entertainment area with this wall mount for flat-panel TVs that features a slim design to hold your TV less than 1" away from the wall for a streamlined appearance. The ClickStand feature offers easy cable installation.

does the space allow for hdmi connections on back of panasonic tc-p50u2?

It should... Much depends on how deeply recessed your television's HDMI ports are and how large the plastic surround is where the cable meets the connector of your specific HDMI cable. This wall mount comes with spacers that can provide enough extra space (approximately 1.5" of extra space) for most HDMI cables.

Does this work for Panasonic TH-C50HD18?

It should work just fine. This mount supports 125 lbs, and the Panasonic TH-C50HD18 weighs 78.3 lbs. Also, a compatibility search on the Sanus website also came up positive for your model of television.

tilt range ?

This mount does not have a tilt feature for viewing angle modification, but it does allow the TV to be 'tilted' away from the wall 8.6 degrees so that cable connections may be accessed easily.

Yes. This mount is universal and can support up to 125 lbs, the TV you cite is 42.5 lbs. This mount also comes with the M6 screws that are required for the Dynex 46L150A11 (per the product manual from the manufacturer's website).

Do we have the capability to slide the tv left to right on this mount?

Yes, but the range of motion varies based on the distance between the outer-edges of the two components that attach to the rear of the television. The wall mounted component is 30.5" wide, so if you measure 15" between the edges of the tv-attached components, then you will be able to slide the TV 7.5" left/right from center.

How high to lift TV when mounting?

We are planning to mount very close to the ceiling. Will I have to 'lift' the TV higher than it is actually mounted in order to mount it? I don't want to install the mount and find that I can't lift it high enough to mount it because I hit the ceiling first.
You will need to lift the TV about an inch or two higher than its final mounted position so that the part of the mount that attaches to your television can be lowered into the lip of the part that attaches to the wall.

To be safe, position the wall mount to allow clearance for the combined measurements of the mount's lip and the portion of your TV that rises above the top of the attached mount.
