Just keeps getting better.

Many say that the "Saw" movie franchise has long since worn out its welcome, but I say that I can't wait to see more. "Saw V" picks up where "IV" left off and delves us deeper and deeper into the world of Jigsaw and his proteges. The series started off very claustrophobic and each movie has gotten larger scope while still sticking to the enclosed world of "Saw". More traps and more flashbacks as well as new games to be played. Lovers of the previous movies will be pleasantly surprised by the job of production designer David Hackl changing to director for the fifth and the upcoming sixth installments of the series. It's nice to have a new perspective on the movies from someone who has been there.
What's great about it: Everything.
What's not so great: Confusing at times, but not too much.

Take the movie with you.

The movie itself was amazing with the soundtrack not being far behind. On the "Deluxe" version of the soundtrack all the songs are included along with some dialouge from the movie. The final song, ironically dubbed "Final Scene" is over 10 minutes in length a features all the small parts of songs, reprisals, and the ending dialouge from the movie. Fans of the movie will rejoice in being able to take the songs with them wherever they go.
What's great about it: All the songs from the movie... to go!
What's not so great: There are a few songs that I'm not a big fan of.

Definetely the best album of 2008.

First off, let us get the comparissons out of the way... The Dreaming sound similar to Stabbing Westward ONLY because they share the same vocalist. However any and all similaries end there. The Dreaming are heavier, more vulgar, far superior to SW in many ways, and have absolutely no boundaries on their music [having created a somewhat-of-a-joke record label, Dream Corpse Records or DC Records, to record and distribute the album].
'Etched In Blood' contains many reworked versions of songs previously found on other EPs with some new songs thrown in here and there. "Beautiful", a track that appeared on the "Elektra" soundtrack, has been reworked and retitled to "Ugly" for this release. Both the older songs and newer songs are superior to anything Stabbing Westward did in my opinion, but I am a person who likes heavier, darker music with more of an edge.
Fans of rock and metal, as well as fans of music in general owe it to themselves to check out The Dreaming and buy 'Etched In Blood'. You will not be disappointed. With Stabbing Westward fans, it's a hit-or-miss with The Dreaming. You may like them, you may not. Know they are their own band, not a carbon copy of Chris' old band. It's taken the band years to get this album out there and 2008 will be THEIR year.
What's great about it: Easy to relate to, catchy melodies, great album flow, etc.
What's not so great: Could have been longer.

Musically bloody.

Imagine the most twisted tale of sadistic revenge and bloody retribution put to music and you have "Sweeney Todd". If you're a horror fan you will like this movie even if you hate musicals. Some parts of the movie are a bit un-nerving for some and may give you nightmares. Do not watch this movie if you are not a serious horror or gore fan.
What's great about it: Great acting & singing, intriging lyrics, blood, gore.
What's not so great: Maybe a little too much singing sometimes.

"Shark" is one of the few shows I watch reguarly and it is definetely my favorite. I tend to idolize people who are sarcastic, condescending, and narcisistic. It makes for great television. I recommend everyone watch the show. It's like "H-ll's Kitchen" without the competition and in a court room
Court room drama, crime scene investigations, action, tons of arguing, humor, sarcasm, the show has everything you could want in a good sitcom.
What's great about it: James Woods, drama, humor, sarcasm.
What's not so great: Not one that I can think of.

After Blink-182.
on December 28, 2007

In the wake of Blink-182 came Tom's new pop rock outfit Angels & Airwaves. Soon after came 'I-Empire', the band's sophomore effort full of catchy melodies that get stuck in your head for days, upbeat rock songs, and ballads just sad enough to make the girls cry. Fans of Blink-182 and Boxcar Racer will love knowing Tom's still making music and rock fans who may not have liked Blink get to hear a different side of Tom.
What's great about it: Well-written, catchy
What's not so great: Not that original

Happy accidents rock!
on December 28, 2007

My first experience with Fair To Midland was by mistake. I was going through song samples on an online playlist looking for a song and ended up clicking on "Dance of the Manatee". I liked what I heard and bought the album a few months later. It was one of those happy accidents you hear about.
'Fables From A Mayfly...' is an extremely unique mix of alternative, punk, modern rock, grunge, pop, jazz, emo, and heavy metal. Despite having all those genres mixed in, none of the songs sound cluttered or disorganized. Each track is musically tight and very well written. The lyrics are catchy and the singer has an amazingly wide range of vocals.
There are so many bands out there today that try to merge different genres together, not many do so successfully. However, Fair To Midland have created a sound of their own that's original and unclassifiable. Not since 30 Seconds To Mars has a band created such a unique and fresh sound.
What's great about it: Catchy, original, fresh
What's not so great: Some songs sound similar

Best "SAW" since the original!
on December 17, 2007

Every single "SAW" movie has taken us further inside the twisted world of Jigsaw and his many victims. Not since the original has one the "SAW" movies been so fresh, original, and shocking.
"SAW IV" tells the story of the last cop left untouched by Jigsaw being pulled into the biggest game of all and into his own personal h*ll. We follow him as he races to save his friends before his time runs out. He soon realizes the games are much bigger than he ever could have imagined as he nears the end of his own.
Full of new traps, new surprises, and new victims, "SAW IV" is by far the best "SAW" movie since the original and features an ending that rivals the original. Sit back and strap yourself in for one h*ll of a ride. Are you ready for "SAW V"?
What's great about it: Everything you love about the "SAW" movies and more!
What's not so great: Could have been longer.

Ending with a bang

The previous two films were among the best action and horror movie crossovers ever made. Both took zombie movies and movies based on video games to a whole new level. The movie is good enough to make both movie fans and fans of the game happy. The only possible complaint will probably be the lack of Jill Valentine and no explanation for her disappearance. I'm also not a fan of Ashanti and don't think she can act.
I didn't think this movie would surpass it's predessors, but it did so in some ways and didn't in others. The story line continues and takes us to a post-apocalyptic world where the T-Virus has spread everywhere. Alice has separated herself from the others, but later catches up to them to bring the war straight to the umbrella corporation who are now trying to replicate Alice's blood.
Full of action, suspense, thrills, and lots of gore, this movie is sure to please any and all action and horror junkies. If you're new to the trilogy, I suggest watching the previous movies first. If you're a fan, you won't be disappointed.
What's great about it: Great story line, amazing special effects, lots of action
What's not so great: No explanation of why Jill wasn't in the movie, Ashanti

Deluxe Editions Rock!
on November 24, 2007

I already wrote a review of the album on the regular version, so this is going to be a review of the extras.
What catches your eyes first when buying this album is the amazingly beautiful new artwork and packaging. The band really went all out on this one with a hologram cover based on their characters from the "From Yesterday" short-film/music video. Moving the case from side-to-side alternates between the Phoenix and Trinity logos. When you open up the case you'll find a fold-out that shows the names of the Mars Army. On one side is the CD (with bonus tracks!) and a DVD on the other with a new booklet in the middle that features new pictures and artwork. The whole case fold out into a cross.
The album itself features the two bonus tracks from the original copies, "Battle of One" and their cover of Bjork's "Hunter", and a new version of "The Kill" dubbed "The Kill (Rebirth)". The song has a new intro previously only heard in the video and takes out the heavier parts where Jared screams. It's a more mellow version of the song, but still really good.
Now the DVD, the real bonus, features the video and the making-of featurette for "The Kill". Also features some interviews, live videos from MTV2's "All That Rocks" show with Bam as the host, video from the VMA's, and some promo spots from MTV2.
Altogether, the packaging, CD, and DVD were well worth the $23 I shelled out for the Deluxe Edition. If you're a 30 Seconds To Mars fan or want to get acquainted with them better, then this is the album to get. While you're at it, pick up their self-titled debut available in stores everywhere. It's X-mas time so they should be on sale. They'd make a great gift for anyone who likes/loves music!
What's great about it: Bonus DVD with videos and interviews, bonus tracks
What's not so great: A little pricey
