Nice laptop, but not perfect
on May 24, 2017

First let me say I purchase and use a lot of hardware, Macs and PC's
I purchased this specifically for a .NET development project I am working at the moment so my needs were
- Performance
- Nice screen
- Nice keyboard/trackpad
- Complete MS stack compatibility
Secondary needs were battery life and weight
General observations
This is not a Macbook by any means. It does come closer than most PC's I have used, but in the end of the day it is still Windows and a PC with all that entails. However, if you are on a budget and want something nice that is fast or you just need to be in the Microsoft ecosystem, this is a good buy.
Cons
Not many but I have noticed a couple of quibbles
- Fan noise, if you leave the fan setting in the BIOS on its default performance setting the fan kicks in if the CPU's are at 25% utilization or higher and they can be noisy. You can switch to balanced mode which did cut the fan noise down at the cost of performance. When I benchmarked it in Geekbench, switching to balanced knocked about 10-15% off the performance numbers which isn't terrible but if you want maximum performance leave it at its defaults.
- The screen resolution is awesome for those apps that support it. I have found though that many Windows apps do not render properly. Some are super tiny and some are a bit fuzzy! 4K still seems to be in transition.
- Windows (however, I will say Windows 10 is a big improvement over Windows 8 and I will dare say it is almost enjoyable)
Now Pros
-Performance is great. Compilatation time is way down, apps are snappy, tested one or two games and the GTX1050 is very fast. This thing is packing a real processor
instead of the ultra low power parts that dominate most Windows machines at Best Buy at least.
- Keyboard is excellent
- Trackpad for Windows laptop is very good, but still nothing compared to a Mac. Apple just has the trackpads nailed.
- Screen, very clear, beautiful screen, apps look fantastic that properly scale to handle 4K
- Laptop is light, won't break your back
- Quality of construction.. seems very well made. No flex in the screen or body, no rough edges or shoddy work
- Very nicely packaged ( nice job Lenovo on the packaging)
Unknowns
- Battery life, just haven't tested it yet, but I think it is going to average 5 or 6 hours which isn't bad
- How long will it last.. hard to say with laptops. Again for my Macs, I know I am going to get a solid 4-5 years out them no question, but
Windows laptops it is a mixed bag. I have one Windows laptop that is still going after 8 years and now is a decent Linux machine and others that have died in the
first year.
Summary
This is a very nice Windows laptop and for the price it is hard to beat.

Good card for the price
on October 13, 2016

After researching the 460 based cards against the equivalent Nvidia card I chose to go with this model. I am using this in a newly built PC based on an AMD FX-8730 with Wraith cooler and this being AMD of course fits right in nicely. I have tested it in numerous games and benchmarks and I noticed some instability on 3DMarks DirectX 12 demo and especially in World of Tanks. World of Tanks was pretty much unplayable and I almost took the card back. However, after some digging I found it is due to the XFX card being overclocked and I just think the chip can't handle it. I used the built in AMD tools (which are excellent by the way) to down clock the GPU clock speed by 100Mz to just above its recommended factory setting. After that it has been stable and I have not had any issues in WOT or any other game. It probably lost a frame in performance but that is negligible and is well worth the stability.
Pros
- Runs just about everything at 60fps in HD resolution. This is not a card for 4K. If you need 4K output step up to the 480
- Very cool and quiet
- Power efficient
- Games that I used to play at lower settings I can now play fully maxed out in HD resolution and quite frankly it is like playing a new game. Love it.
Cons
- Again slight instability at overclocked speed, but runs fine at factory clock settings

Excellent tablet for the price
on June 13, 2016

So far I am very pleased with this tablet. Make no mistake this is not as good as an iPad period, I have both. But it is a very good tablet and most importantly it is considerably cheaper which offsets some of its shortcomings. If you just need a good Android tablet that will get the job done with an excellent screen this is a good choice.
Pros
- low price point
- expandable storage
- awesome screen, ( one reviewer complained about the 4:3 aspect ratio, 4:3 is better for everything but movies, no question)
- very thin and light weight, just love how thin and light this thing is
- loaded with marshmellow
Cons
- while light weight, it seems fragile to me and definitely not the same quality construction as Apple. I can see slight dimples in the plastic in the back around the ports for example. But throw a case on and you are good to go
- good performance but doesn't hold a candle to the iPad pro, still it is fast enough for everything I have thrown at it thus far. This is using Qualcoms midrange 652 chip and it is no 820. Not sure why Samsung doesn't beef up their tablets except maybe it is to keep the price down.
- Typical quirks of Android
Overall love this tablet and would recommend it if you understand what you are getting

Update
May 24, 2017
Just an update to my review. I worked on battery today for about 6 hours which isn't bad considering I was hammering it pretty hard during that time. Also in the office the fan noise was not noticeable due to more background noise in the room. You will only really notice the fans in a quiet environment. I was very pleased with the performance of the laptop. Also I installed the Windows 10 Creators update today, upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, and encrypted with the drive with BitLocker; all ran without an issue in case you need these features.

Enjoy rich graphics and smooth video performance with this EVGA GeForce GTX 960 02G-P4-2968-KR graphics card, which offers 2GB GDDR5 memory and a clock speed of 1304MHz. DVI-I, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs offer simple connectivity.

Will this play 2015-2016 games? Correctly

It will play pretty much anything up to HD resolution. I have tested it on a number of recent games with no issues with one exception(see my review on this card). This is not the card to get if you want to play at 4K resolutions or if you are using a VR solution. For those you need its big brother the 480 or Nvidia equivalent.

Is this card compatible with a Dell Precision T3500 desktop computer? I'm looking to acquire a more suitable graphics card for Adobe Premiere Pro. I currently have a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800.

I am not sure about your particular Dell model, but you will need plenty of room and dual slots to vent. This is a dual slot card and is pretty long. If you have a full size desktop case it should fit. If you have a smaller case then you should get a single fan version of this card, which is considerably more compact.

Does this model have the marshmellow software rather than the lollipop? Does it have Microsoft office load, if not can the app be download for free?

It has Marshmellow loaded and comes with MScott Office pre-loaded however you need a 365 subscription to fully take advantage of Office. An alternative would be the free Online versions or Google docs
