An improvement over previous gen, now recommended

I've owned the prior generation (non "homekit" version that comes in many colors) and this one is much better.
1- It connects to my phone more reliably than the previous gen 2- The battery cover is implemented much better (the previous gen would often fall off, this one uses magnets)
As far as I can tell, these are the main feature changes. I don't use any of the Homekit features so I can't comment on those.
Auto-unlock is still a little unreliable. Sometimes I get home, and it doesn't unlock so I do it with the app, and then I'm walking around my kitchen a few minutes later and I hear it auto-unlock, and my phone buzzes. LOL. Good thing I don't live in a bad neighborhood ;-) For us, it's "good enough" and the addition of the Keypad completes the system.
Operate the smart lock in your home remotely with help from this adapter, which wirelessly pairs your Bluetooth-enabled August smart lock (sold separately) to you Wi-Fi network. Download the August app to remotely control the lock and monitor usage from your smartphone or tablet.

Slow, not reliable, poor interface

I've owned this and an August Smartlock for over 1 year, and I've found that the user interface to "connect remotely" is slow, unreliable, and generally cumbersome.
My original intent with this was to be able to have someone call me when they arrive at my house and I could remotely let them in. The first day it couldn't connect, I lost my trust in it and almost never rely on it. I'd recommend the Keypad instead (which I now use regularly).
I have the Connect located within about 10 feet of the SmartLock, just above the door, well within operational range. The Connect is just 2 feet from my WiFi router.
August Smart Keypad: With this smart keypad, you can be sure that regular visitors can enter your home with ease. Use the August app on your Apple® iOS or Android smartphone to program unique keyless entry codes and monitor frequent visitors.

It's one of my favorite features of the August

I really like this keypad. I own two August Smartlocks, two keypads, and the wifi bridge.
It's easy to install, easy to setup, and in my opinion worth the price. I like the feature where you can press the red button on the way out of the house and it will immediately lock the door.
The battery life is *just ok.* I think mine lasted about 4 months or so. The app alerted me that batteries were low.
The one issue I have is that you can't add a PIN number to a user remotely, you have to add it from the app when within range of the device. This is the case even if you have the WiFi bridge.

with the August Home Kit Blue tooth deadbolt do you have to purchase August - Connect AC-R1 Adapter for August Smart Lock in order to be able to lock & unlock remotely?
Yes. The "August Connect" device is designed to "bridge" the lock to the internet so you can unlock it remotely. I had poor results using that device, but your results may vary.
