Those crate-digging maestros at Finders Keepers have something a bit special for us. Emerald Web was the husband and wife duo of Kat Epple and the late Bob Stohl, contemporaries of the likes of Iasos, Laraaji and Vangelis, who played a kind of new agey space-prog which focused around cutting edge synthesizer technology and breathy flute tones. 'Whispered Visions' was their second release, originally coming out on cassette and until now the rarest of all their recordings. The equipment list is quite a read - I haven't even heard of half this stuff - EML Synkey, Arp 2600, Roland RS 101 String Ensemble, Oberheim DS-2A, Orchestron, Echoplex, Lyricon 1, EML ElectroComp Model 500, Oberheim DS-2A, MiniMoog, Flute Electronique, bass recorder, flutes and voice. What they do with all that kit is produce soothing, swirling compositions full of throbbing, droning, twinkling and arpeggiating from the delicately layered synths, with some softly melodic touches of humanity from the understated woodwind. I'm finding it very relaxing; therapeutic new age space-synth loveliness.
