Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 home run!

This is one outstanding subwoofer! Read the spec's: Ultra Pure Copper, triple insulations, Space age and military spec glass and epoxys, stupendous power, non-resonant cabinet, it goes on and on... These many attributes add up to an incredible sub-bass machine!! It also comes with an industry best 5 years warranty for driver and amp!
We bought this to replace a modest, but good 180w Sony which blew after 6 years service. I have not been disappointed. These folks are serious about technology and deliver on performance.
Doubt me? Take a blu ray Jurassic Park Lost World and move it to chapter 5 and play through 1:06! You will think you have a 6-8 ton Tyrannasorus in your room. We have a moderately large 20-22+ den and this sub fills the room with extremely low LFE material. If you have a good to excellent surround system, then you will be delighted with this unit's performance, both with movies AND with audio.
Your stereo will love this sub, and especially recent soundtracks and CDs will benefit from this superior device. One reviewer complained about the cabinet but the cabinet is non resonant monocoque design. It cannot buzz or rattle. If you hear that, then you have a door or piece of furniture resonating with the Prosub 1000.
As I said, it does need a bit of tweaking, because the power can get out of hand if not set properly. Use the EQ/filter and you will probably not need to turn the volume over 40-50%. Also, note, I discovered the driver takes a good 12-18 hours of use to break in. The first hours can sound brittle and harsh or perhaps overly stiff, but that rapidly fades with use. After 20 hours of use, this sub sounds like heaven, starting at 18 cycles per second.
The Prosub 1000 is outstanding, IMHO and you will be amazed at how this subwoofer can compliment your surround system. We use 12" woofer 3 way surround speakers, but I am sure quality 5's and 6 towers will work fine. I never had any idea our surround could sound so superbly... The Prosub 1000 has a lot to do with that.
I would heartily recommend this to a friend.
What's great about it: Stunning power, great clean sound, high quality sub performance
What's not so great: requires a moderate break-in time, and needs to be adjusted for optimal performance
I would recommend this to a friend!

Audioquest: excellent audio and video HDMI
on April 11, 2013

My son upgraded my home theatre system yesterday, using Audioquest HDMI cables to interconnect our DVD recorder, Blu-Ray player, Home Theatre amp, and Cable box, with me having used analog cables for the past 4 years. It cost a bundle, but the net result was unbelievable... The video was perfect, much brighter, the audio went from very good to beyond excellent, and there have been no dropouts, no pixelizations, no frame freezes, or audio gliches. I wish I had done this years ago., However, I DO WISH that Audioquest had published its audio and video throughputs on the cable boxes like Monster, the maker of one of the HDMI cables. Why? because these cables are not cheap. We now have three Audioquests, a couple of Forests and a Pearl, and a Monster. All appear to be excellent, but I know the Monsters throughput, and even the Audioquest website does not publish their throughput figures, even though the Vodka and Diamonds get very expensive. All they say is, they pass the required 10-12 ghz throughput of the HDMI standard, while Monster goes up to nearly 18ghz per sec. I love the results, as I see them, but would love to know the numbers. Great product, beautiful presentation, and perceived excellent performance. I would buy these again, knowing what I know now. I am anxious to see what I think a few years down the road.
What's great about it: seemingly outstanding audio and video home theatre results
What's not so great: pricey, spec's not specific about throughput
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent HDMI cable

My son bought a 5m Audioquest Forest and a 2m Pearl to connect my surround receiver to our widescreen TV, cable and blu ray player today and I am stunned. For the record one of the hdmi 2m to our cable box is a Monster cable..The high speed data/audio and video transmission is perfect, and the audio is beyond belief. There is little to no time synch delay between audio and video and I have seen no dropouts, defects or pixelization during this entire day/s viewing, My 180 watt subwoofer has been just getting by with analog wiring, until today but going full HDMI has brought it and our entire system to life! My sub is making the walls, floors, AND ceiling vibrate with sub bass and my 4 12" bass drivers in the surround speakers are rattling the furniture as well. Our blu-rays and dvds have never sounded or looked better. My son made a perfect choice, and we will be purchasing Audioquest for other blu ray projects in the future.
What's great about it: high speed hdmi transmission
What's not so great: pricey

Great batteries at a price

The Energizer 2025 lithium battery is a quality product.. They may cost a bit more but they are quite dependable. They have a technical shelf life of 5 years, however it is not uncommon for the batteries to last far longer than that, sometimes 8-10 years. I use these to power pcmcia cards for a tc electronics guitar processor, and the first set I got lasted 10 years, the second set 8 and are still cranking, but I will soon replace them because I am sure they are at the end of the product lifespan and I cannot afford to lose my data, which is what will happen if I keep them in the pcmcia cards till they give up the ghost. I would buy these again (and will buy another 5 of these soon, cause the second set is about near the end) in a heartbeat and would recommend these to a friend. Excellent product. I would rather pay 6 dollars for a pair of these and have them last 8-9 years, than have to pay 2$ each for 3 pairs of these repetitavely over the course of 9 years, and have to replace them every 24 months. Al
What's great about it: Dependable, long lasting power, great shelf life...
What's not so great: expensive relatively speaking
I would recommend this to a friend!

re: adjustment and clarification

One clarification.. If you choose to try Lost World, go to the middle of Chapter 4 of the BD dvd, where the cast and their 4 vehicles are afloat on the ferry. The music and LFE track are stunning with the ProSub 1000!
