Grown up sound and great wireless
on December 29, 2016

I have to make an admission up front: I am a Bose fan. Headphones... earbuds... portable speakers... mine usually has a Bose nameplate on it.
I have avoided buying Beats products for years because of the Beats snobbery that I developed in the early days of Beats headphones. They had a reputation for boomy overdone bass and a popularity with listeners who are young enough to be my grandchildren.
Then I tried the Beats Solo 3.
These have a much more grown up sound than I ever expected from a Beats product. They sound great... maybe not for a "critical" listener, but I think that's overblown anyway. I love clear crisp sound, but I'm not going to be ridiculously demanding.
But that W1 wireless chip! OMG is that thing going to change the Bluetooth market! I can almost guarantee that it will change the way that you listen to your music. The low power consumption, range, and connection stability are so far above anything else on the market that I'd bet the competition is scrambling to catch up.
I routinely leave my iPhone plugged into the charger in my house while I roam around doing things inside. I have gotten accustomed to positioning myself so that the Bluetooth radio faces the phone, otherwise the music drops out or stutters when I get very far away. But the Solo 3's never falter until you get far far away from them. In fact, I forgot that I was wearing them and walked outside to get the mail... and got sidetracked with something in my yard. I had walked to the far end of the yard before I realized that I was still listening to music streaming from my phone inside the house... easily 150-200 feet away!
And I was skeptical about the claim of 40 hours on a battery charge. I haven't run them dry yet, but I did listen all day at work and after 6 solid hours of listening the battery meter on my iPhone reported that they'd gone from 100% down to 91% charged. My doubts are lessening. I haven't used the Fast Fuel feature yet, but the claim is that a 5 minute charge will give you 3 hours of listening time. If that's true, that's a huge benefit.
So with the grown up sound and great W1 wireless chipset features... maybe I'm not such a Bose fanboy any more.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The Jaybird Lifetime warranty means nothing
on October 2, 2015

If you're considering purchasing a Jaybird product, you haven't seen anything mentioned about the Jaybird "Lifetime" warranty. You need to be warned about the misleading way that Jaybird markets this warranty feature.
I paid a premium price at Best Buy for the Jaybird Freedom earbuds about 3 years ago. One of the biggest reasons that I bought them was because of the Jaybird "Lifetime" warranty. The Bluetooth connectivity was spotty after about a year of use, but I limped along for a long time rather than call Jaybird to exercise the warranty. Finally the connectivity got so bad that the headphones are useless.
I called Jaybird customer support to have them repaired or replaced, and Jaybird informed me that my headphones aren't under warranty! I asked how they could be out of warranty from a lifetime warranty. Jaybird told me that they determine how long the "life" is for a product. The rep told me that my only option is to accept a trade-in credit that will bring a pair of their new earbuds down to $129.00! I can buy a very nice pair of earbuds from Bose, Monster, Beats, or some other company who actually honors their advertised warranty.
In other words, the lifetime warranty covers your product for as long as Jaybird decides is convenient for their bottom line. Don't buy a Jaybird product if warranty coverage is important to you.

Amazing sound + Amazing comfort

I use in ear headphones daily, and I've tried so many that I've lost count. Before getting the MIE2i from Bose, I was using Jaybird Freedoms for Bluetooth and Yurbud wired earbuds. Neither was great, but for different reasons. The Jaybirds sound great... but they get that sound by shoving an earpiece deep into your ear halfway to your brain. So they get uncomfortable quickly and demand that you give your ears a rest every hour or so. They are marketed as sport headphones that won't come out, and they stay put well... but at the price of being uncomfortable after a couple of hours, and unbearable after 3 or 4 hours.
The Yurbuds fit more comfortably, but have fairly poor sound. Very poor bass... lots of treble... and just muddy mixed up sound. So you get fatigue from just listening to the sound profile that the Yurbuds put out.
Then I got the MIE2i's from Bose. Wow... they fit great. The Bose design is not marketed as a sport headphone, but stays put BETTER than my Jaybirds do. And the MIE2i does it without violating your ear canal. They are literally all day comfortable.
Then there is the sound. Wow again. They sound better than any other in ear headphone that I've tried. Great bass... crisp clear sound in all ranges. I listen to a dizzying variety of music from Allison Krauss to Daft Punk to classical... and the Bose in ear phones excel. My toughest test is to listen to one of my favorites... Portishead. Their music combines bass elements with haunting soprano vocals and a driving "wall of sound" over all. Cheap or substandard phones simply can't hide from Portishead... they make the music sound like a muddy unintelligible mess. On the MIE2i's everything is crisp... each range plays its part and the music is great. Music that the Yurbuds can't handle. Music that the Jaybirds handle well... but they get too uncomfortable to wear all day.
The Bose phones eliminate the fatigue from fit issues... they eliminate the fatigue from audio issues. I can wear them all day. They are the first headphones that I've EVER used that I can literally forget that I'm wearing.
Worth every penny.

What's great about it: Clear crisp sound
What's not so great: Could use a bit longer cord... hate the black/white striped cord.

What does the sweat damage? The electronics maybe? What do you think would happen if sweat gets inside the unit... Hmmm... maybe they would stop working? Sweat has a lot of salt. Salt corrodes metal/electronics over time. I would have been happy if Jaybird had at least evaluated the headphones to see what went wrong.

Not as accurate as I hoped
By sammyjam97
The pedometer is fairly accurate. The exercise tracker is not as accurate as I had hoped. The tracker would say I walked the treadmill for 27min and burned 158 calories but the treadmill says 27mins and 190 calories. I still use it everyday because I like how it connects with the app My Fitness Pal, I like how it connects with bluetooth and alerts me to text messages.

Be careful of calorie burn calculations
June 3, 2016
I wouldn't put much stock in the calorie burn numbers provided by any consumer level devices. Each device computes calorie consumption with formulas that make assumptions and take shortcuts... it's a necessary thing. Most feed your weight and heart rate into a calculation that gives only the roughest of burn estimates. Since your treadmill only knows your heart rate, I'd wager that your Garmin is more accurate given that you've input things like your age, weight, height, etc into your profile.
The take away is that a reading difference of 40 calories between devices for a nearly 30 minute workout is not abnormal at all.
