I spent over an hour in the Magnolia room listening to various sub woofers. I have two homes and was looking to replace my 20 year old Cambridge Soundworks small sub in our summer house. I have a Definitive sub at our primary home. Definitive has been great but I wanted to see what my alternatives were.
I listened to two Definitives in the $400 to $600 range and compared them to the Energy sub. I was about to stay with Definitive when I noticed the Martin Logan and B&W. I had wanted to stay under $500 but started comparing the Martin and B&W to the Definitive.
I immediately noticed an incredible difference when these two were compared to the Definitive. The Martin was so clearly cleaner and crisper. The B&W was more booming at first. However, we spend a few minutes balancing the volumes of the two units and they became very close in sound. The Definitive quickly dropped off my list. I went with the Martin Logan as I just felt it was so clean and crisp compared to the others and it was $150 less than the B&W. The B&W would have been great too but I am very happy with my choice.
Installed in my house I immediately notice a nice clean full sound that fills the room with warmth. It has greatly enhanced my very old Yamaha bookshelf speakers to the point where I don't feel a need to replace them.
I am a musician so I favor music listening when evaluating speakers. Avoiding listener fatigue is critical for me and this sub does that. But it did a great job with the surround sound while watching The Dark Night Rises on Blue Ray.
Share, stream and access stored media across your network. This Belkin router provides steady and reliable Wi-Fi coverage, even while everyone in the house is online.
I bought this to replace a 2 year old NetGear router that kept losing the wireless internet connection. NetGear wanted $129 for an annual Support Contract to fix the issue! I bought this new router for $70.
Installation seemed easy if you wanted to use the preconfigured SSID and password. I didn't. It was not intuitive to log onto the router to change it and when I did I ran into some problems. Belkin was very good and I quickly got it running.
I've been using it for a week now with no issues. Hasn't lost internet connectivity once. The NetGear was losing connectivity 3 times a day.
Wireless N is good only for short distances. I have to go to Wireless G upstairs. I switch to N when I am in the room with the router. Easy for me..but my wife isn't technical so she is set to 2.4 speed permanently. Would be nice if these routers had better range with wireless N.
What's great about it: It works...no connectivity issues.

I was replacing a 10 year old Yamaha. One of the rear surround channels had died but I also wanted to upgrade to a receiver that would have HDMI support for both audio and video.
At first I chose the higher end Yamaha that offered 120 watts per channel. It was around $950. But later cancelled the order when I realized that unit was 2" deeper than all my other components and would have presented challenges with my media cabinet set up. So, I stepped down in price and power to this unit.
Overall, I am pleased with the features and functionality. I especially like controlling all components from the unit. I really like having internet connectivity. This was not a feature I had sought but it is great. I can access photos and music from my PC's and network hard drive. I also like the built in Pandora functionality.
The sound is fantastic in either true stereo or surround. The UI is okay. Some functions can't be controlled from the unit itself and you need to use the on screen capability but I really like that as it is very easy to use. My old receiver didn't have the advanced Video UI. I highly recommend the GUI interface of this unit vs. the simpler "on screen" UI's. (BTW, the Best Buy blue shirt didn't really explain or appear to know the difference.)
If there is one complaint it would be that I could possibly use a bit more power...but that's only because for action movies I feel I have to turn it up too far and I'm concerned about introducing distortion. My old unit seemed plenty loud at only a 10 o'clock setting whereas this unit appears to need to be turned up much higher. But...this unit used a DB volume indicator and it may be that I'm simply not comparing apples to apples as this unit is rated at 10w above my old unit.
I thought the automatic speaker setup using the microphone was weak. I ended up changing the settings on my own. For some reason it set my subwoofer to -10db and my center channel to -4DB. It also automatically set my tower left and right to small and they are low end audiophile speakers.
All said and done....I would recommend this unit as a good value for $500.
What's great about it: Pure Yamaha Sound and DTS
What's not so great: Could use a bit more power and a phono hookup
