Amazing System

I started with this kit thinking a couple of lights would be nice to have and within a week I had 4 more. The coolest thing is that once I set it up I rarely touch it anymore. It turns off when I leave, it turns on when I come home (but only if it's after dark) and it syncs up with another app called 'IF' that expands the capabilities like crazy. When I put my Jawbone in sleep mode the lights automatically turn off. When I get an email they flash to notify me. It's nuts how much it can do without me ever having to touch them. I rarely access the app anymore because everything is automated and that's the best part.

Great device, app is where it shines

This is going to be a pretty detailed review but the short version is that this is a great tracker. The real power is in the app and all the other devices it can link to. The Jawbone app links to my scale, shows my heart rate, automatically brings in exercises done in other apps and shows me my friends in a really motivating way. I've bought 7 of these now for friends and family and all of us love it.
Unboxing and setup: Inside the box is the tracker itself, a clip, a CR2032 battery and a tool to open the tracker so the battery can be inserted. The battery is easy to insert and when the tool gets lost (it inevitably will) a coin will work just fine. The clip easily attaches to a belt, waistband, shirt or almost any other article of clothing and holds well. I've had mine for 9 months and the clip is just as sturdy as it was when I first got it. The only difficult part is putting the tracker in the clip. It takes some force and a couple of minutes but that's better than some other trackers I've had where the tracker can slip out of the holder. Once the battery is in it needs to be linked to a phone through the Up app. On iPhones there are 2 different Up apps, one that requires a tracker and one that does not. The one that does require the tracker has a blue icon instead of purple. Once this app is downloaded, it walks you through connecting the tracker. This process is very reliable and a nice contrast to the Microsoft Band which has a terrible pairing process for non Windows phones. I've set up a bunch of these and never had any issues getting it connected.
The tracker: The up move is a circle about the diameter of a quarter and the thickness of 3 quarters. My favorite feature is the battery that lasts for 6 months. I've had to change it once in the 9 months I've had it instead of charging daily or weekly. The face of it is a button and this is the only way to interact with the tracker directly. It's not obvious how to use it and the instructions that come with it could be a little bit clearer. There are 4 things that can be done:
1. Press the face button once to see what percentage of the way you are to your step goal. The edge of the tracker will light up to represent how far along you are. If the lights stop at the halfway point, you're halfway to your goal.
2. Press the button twice to display the time. Again, lights along the edge of the tracker will com up. The hour will flash first followed by the minutes. This takes some getting used to but works well in situations where pulling your phone out would be awkward.
3. Press and hold the face button to enter or exit sleep mode. Before going to sleep, do this so it knows to start tracking sleep. The lights will flash and a blue moon will light up. When you wake up do this again and the lights will flash and an orange man will appear.
4. Press twice and hold the face button to enter activity mode. This lets the tracker know you're about to start exercising and it will try and figure out what you're doing. Even if it can't it will still give you credit for the activity.
The app: This is where the Jawbone really shines. The app is well designed so the information you're most likely to want to see is on screen first. It shows sleep, activity and a food score if you track your food. These update automatically throughout the day and a quick glance is all that's required to see how you're doing. Where the app became invaluable for me was when I hooked it up to other fitness devices and apps I was already using. I have the Withings Body Analyzer (think a scale on steroids) and I weigh myself every morning. My weight, body fat percentage and heart rate go immediately into the Jawbone and it's treated just like the data that comes directly from the band, easily visible instead of hidden away in some corner of the app. I track food with MyFitnessPal and again the data is imported into Jawbone and put front and center exactly as if I was doing the tracking in the Jawbone app. My favorite is the Runkeeper integration. Every run I go on shows up in Jawbone with a map, my distance and time. I love that I get to pick the best app for me and use that but still have Jawbone be the hub of it all.
Social aspects: This was an area I didn't think would be important until I started using it. I got my girlfriend a tracker when she kept asking questions about mine and once she had one, she started commenting on my activities. In the app there is an activity feed that can show activities from all teammates (friends who also use Jawbone) or just your own. When you see other peoples activities a little emoji icon let's you leave a happy or astounded face and a comment box let's you leave more detailed feedback. I use this all the time now. When my brother plays 2 hours of basketball it's easy to congratulate him. When I have a really good run my friends can see it and provide some encouragement. When I get a really good (or bad) nights sleep my friends can chime on. Some other trackers I've used focus heavily on competition with friends. For me (and my friends) this was a turn-off. Jawbone is based around encouragement and I find myself using it much more. There's still a leaderboard, I can see who's taking the most steps this week and try and move up but I'm much happier with the social features here than I have been with other trackers.
Smart coach: The last thing worth mentioning is the Smart Coach, Jawbone's way of chiming in with suggestions. In general I like the way this works but the suggestions themselves get repetitive. There are 3 categories of suggestions: Take more steps, eat more fiber and go to sleep earlier. They're all good suggestions and they're presented well but it gets old after a while.
Final thoughts: As a device to help me get in better shape, Jawbone is the best I've found. The tracker does what it's supposed to do and the app is the hub of all my fitness related gadgets. If you're a novice, it's very easy to use and if you're a techie, there's enough data to satisfy almost everyone. There's only one downside I've found: there's no way to get notifications from your phone on it like you can on some higher end trackers. I hope they add this in the future but it would require a complete redesign of the tracker. I may end up getting an Apple Watch in the future for that purpose. For straight fitness tracking, Jawbone is the best.

Best headphones after some customization

I don't usually write product reviews but these headphones are awesome once you assemble them the right way. When I first got them the left bud kept falling out of my ear because the cable kept slipping and pulling it. Once I switched to bigger buds (it comes with 4 sizes) and put the clip on my shirt these are the best workout headphones I've ever owned. The cable no longer slips, they never fall out, they cancel out ambient noise without making it impossible to hear what's going on around me (important when I'm running on the street) and, best of all, they sound amazing. Since I got them I've actually improved my running times. My only complaint is that the shirt clip doesn't come on the headphone cable, it comes in the bag with the earbuds and I didn't see it for the first few weeks I had them. Once I put it on I have no complaints and even though they were a little bit expensive they've proved to be worth it.

Works great, easy to lose

Verified Purchase:Yes
It works great, the app is beautiful and gives a ton of information and it syncs with a bunch of other stuff to make it even more useful (things like RunKeeper or MyFitnessPal). My only complaint was that the clip it came with didn't hold it securely enough to keep it from falling out. It was good enough that I ended up buying a second one, though.
What's great about it: Accuracy of tracking, integration with other services, beautiful app
What's not so great: After 3 months it popped out of the belt clip and was gone

Is it compatable with samsung galaxy Core Prime smartphone?

The Hue app is available to any Android phone running Android 2.3 or higher (and that's a really old version so your phone should definitely work). And if you don't like the official app there are a ton of other apps on the Play Store that can be used to control them. Start with the official one and then play around with some others to see what you like.

Jawbone UP2 Activity Tracker: Measure your daily activity, sleep and nutritional intake with this sleek wristband. The free UP app lets you monitor your progress, and Smart Coach helps motivate you to reach your goals.

Will this fit a larger wrist

The clasp is adjustable and will fit most wrists. Very large or very small wrists might not work but I've seen a bunch of people with different wrist sizes try it out and nobody I've seen has had a problem yet.

When will Jawbone Up2 be available for in-store pickup?

It's available now in most stores. You can check your closest store on the site by entering your zip code but they're usually in stock.

Can you manually use Phone app to put the band into sleep mode?

I want to know bc I am hearing that there are many issues regarding the touch interface. Thank you.
Yes, in the app you can manually start sleep mode or activity mode.

Tracking

How far away can your android be for this to track correctly?
The tracker will store all your information on the device until you get in range of your phone. I've been away for a few hours at a time and had no issues syncing back to the phone. The Jawbone website says it can store up to 9 months of data which seems like a lot but I've never found a limit to it. The range of Bluetooth is usually about 30 feet but you shouldn't have to worry how far away you are. If it's too far it'll wait until you get closer to put it all in.

Yes, if you press the face of the tracker (it's a button) you can see the percentage of your goal you've completed for the day represented by the ring of lights around the edge.

Is there a web based app instead of a smartphone? How much data will stay in the device until I come into range?

Is there a web based app instead of a smartphone? How much data will stay in the device until I come into range? Suppose I am out of range for two days? When it syncs, will it capture the full time I was out of range?
There is not a web based app, it's all on the phone. The Jawbone website says the tracker will store 9 months of data on the device which seems like a lot but I've never run into the actual limit. I've been apart from my phone for a few hours and there's been no issues syncing everything from those hours into the app. I assume the same would be true if you were away longer.

Can these be used in the shower and/or submerged underwater?

On the monster site it says they're splash and waterproof for 30 minutes at 1 meter depth. I'd still recommend getting the protection plan on them if you're going to be showering with them, though. It seems like it would make it much more likely something would go wrong with them.
