Young boy rides around with old man in an RV

Verified Purchase:Yes
I did not grow up with this show, I was actually too young at the time to have taken any notice of it, though vague memories of it where there. My old brother would tell me of it and how bad it really was. Being a fan of live action Super heroes, and a Captain Marvel fan I certainly would have to have these. For several years I have had pretty bad quality bootlegs of all the episodes, yet I still waited for an “official” release of this show in hopes it would be better quality. Then after the Isis set appeared hopes began to run high that Shazam would finally be released- I’m sure others felt the same.
The series was finally released on WB site as one of those DVD on demand purchases, which is pretty stupid really; Warner Bros basically sells us DVDrs of shows yet at the same price as a regular DVD. I already at DVDrs of this show, so why would I want to buy these, and with no guarantee they were any better quality. So I hesitated until a friend had ordered the series from WB. He received his and discovered that they were in fact silver glass master pressed DVD (not DVDRs) at which point I ordered mine. I received my set and they were also real DVDs.
Note; a limited amounted was press as real silver DVDs, once that run is gone they will then be pressed on demand (DVDR); sites like Best Buy and Amazon do not mention this, I’m sure they assume customers would not know the difference… There IS a difference. Also I believe the set with the photo cover is the DVDs and the alternate cover is the DVDrs but not positive on that.
The quality of the episodes is not all that great. It is better than the bootlegs I have collected over the years, but they are worse than the episodes that aired on TVLand. Now that does seem a bit confusing when one thinks of the episodes that aired on TVLand look better than what ended up on this discs. The auto is fine for the most part but the picture is often shaky. However no one who gets these is going to complain. Those who buy these will be collector geeks like me who will watch through all once and probably never go back to them, or the person who watched it as a kid and will look back at it and see how bad it is and not even finish them. Either way this set will satisfy for those intensive purposes.
I do think we were robbed on the bonus features. Sure any extra footage, commercials, outtakes probably no long exist just considering how difficult it is just to get quality episodes, but something could have been done here. The only “extras” are the ending segment of each episode. Warner Bros. those are not “extras” they were parts of the episode. Now if Filmation were able to put these out there could have been bonus content, just look what was in the he-Man boxsets. WB could have called up ol’ Jackson to do an interview or something. I for one would like to hear some of his stories about playing my favorite DC character.
After watching the show put some thought into this; it is a show about a young boy that rides around in an RV with an old man, they talk to deities that send them out looking for other young children. And did I mention that young Billy has a grown man who wears tights inside him? Ok that came out wrong.
