Only at Best BuyThis Rocketfish™ RF-WSW312 wireless transmitter/receiver kit makes it easy to equip your home theater system with a wireless subwoofer (not included). Up to a 45' wireless range allows flexible speaker placement.
I've been having issues with my Yahama YSP-5100 sound bar, which has a wireless subwoofer feature already. The symptoms included:
- Interference with 2.4GHz devices including WiFi, Bluetooth and Zigbee - Clicks/pops when on (interference from other 2.4GHz devices most likely)
I've been searching for a wireless subwoofer kit, but most are in the $150-200 range. Then I found this Rocketfish subwoofer kit for a fraction of that.
I'm happy to say it works GREAT!
I looked up the FCC ID and it seems to be based on Ozmo 5GHz WiFi direct radios, which explains why it doesn't seem to bother my 2.4GHz devices or be bothered by others. My condo is extremely dense and congested.
However this Ozmo-based device is a P2P WiFi Direct link. It obeys by standard WiFi rules on standard WiFi 802.11n channels. It's low latency, doesn't seem to interfere with other devices and because it is 5GHz, doesn't go through walls like 2.4GHz and thus is a great short-range solution for everyone.
The device itself is small, easy to set up, and the only thing I can really fault is the auto-sleep feature. After 5 minutes it shuts off and can take a few seconds to start back up when it detects LFE audio. That means if you pause a movie to go make some popcorn, it may take ~5-10 seconds before you get your LFE channel back after hitting play. All in all, not really much of an issue.
What's great about it: Avoids the congested 2.4GHz space, based on standard WiFi
What's not so great: Auto-sleep can take a few seconds to wake up
