For Serious Enthusiast

I really wanted to keep love this lens, but being a semi-pro
going pro it just didn't cut the grade. Right now in my business
I just couldn't justify something that was this long and not compatible
with at least the Kenko teleconverters. It will work, but not reliably and
I missed far too many image captures for this to be a keeper lens.
On the plus side as strictly a 70-300 range L lens this is a nice lens
and produces very acceptable images. I thought I wouldn't mind the telescoping lens, but it' not for me.
AF is fast and IS is superb. I hand held many captures of antelope,
buffalo and moose with this lens and later on down the road when I have the extra change I might go for this lens, but to be realistic
I can carry my 70-200 f/4 IS with the Kenko Proplus DGX 1.4x converter
and get 280mm and identical image quality with a much more
versatile package.
Kudos to Best Buy for their trial period and the great way they handle
returns. I'm opting for a Canon prime L, so that I can use an extender
for the reach.
GREAT lens for the Enthusiast, but still a bit heavy and not as versatile
as the 70-200 f/4 IS with a high quality extender.
IF you want to keep it simple and need weather seal and updated IS and AF then this is a go to lens with excellent optics.
What's great about it: Optics, Weather Seal, AF, IS
What's not so great: Not Canon Extender compatible or reliable with Kenko Extenders
I would recommend this to a friend!
