Great Unsung Southern Rock Album
on August 7, 2017

from Kingston NY
The Winters Brothers Band's self-titled debut album is a great debut by a 70s Southern rock band who never made it quite as big as the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, or even the Outlaws, but were just as great as the aforementioned acts. The music is very similar to MTB and the Outlaws, with its catchy songs and guitar jamming, so if you love those bands, DO NOT PASS THIS ONE UP!!!!!!!!

Skynyrd's Best Post-Crash Album
on January 1, 2017

VICIOUS CYCLE is the best album Lynyrd Skynyrd did after the plane crash, with great contributions from guitarists Gary Rossington, Hughie Thomasson, and Rickey Medlocke, all of whom are on top of their game here. They all contribute to the writing, and each gets to play lots of guitar solos in the context of great songs. Unfortunately, Rossington and Johnny Van Zant, being the megalomaniacs they are, ignored Thomasson's call for them to better control their fans' behavior, and in retaliation, cut him out of royalties, which led to him leaving and reforming the Outlaws in 2004. Here, however, there's no sign of dissension, as the band sounds totally cohesive on VICIOUS CYCLE.

Great Present-Day Skynyrd Album
on January 1, 2017

from Kingston NY
LAST OF A DYIN' BREED is a great album by the present-day lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd, even if the lyrics are a bit too much redneck sloganeering. Some of the lyrics express how I feel about present-day society, especially how one person treated me after I saved a person's life. (That cost him his job.) There ARE some songs here that tell us to treat good samaritans with the respect they deserve, and the songs often express how white males such as myself often feel left out in today's multicultural society. If you feel that way sometimes, you'll want this CD.

Blackfoot's Best Album Ever
on January 1, 2017
Posted by: footpathcowboy
from Kingston NY
MARAUDER is Blackfoot's best album ever. Lead singer-guitarist-songwriter Rickey Medlocke had cut back on his drinking (according to some sources, due to crushes on actresses Lindsay Wagner and/or Lynn-Holly Johnson), and the result is a return to the more balanced British metal/Southern rock hybrid of STRIKES, but with all originals, and better ones, too. Medlocke's drying-out led to such songs as the anti-drug "Fire Of The Dragon" and the highly cautionary mid tempo rocker "Payin' For It", two of his best ever. The other songs are also great, and overall, MARAUDER is Blackfoot's masterpiece.

Blackfoot Live And Wired In The UK
on January 1, 2017

HIGHWAY SONG LIVE, Blackfoot's incendiary live album from 1982 (first released in the US in 2002), was recorded in front of wild and rowdy crowds in the UK during a tour in support of the MARAUDER album, and the energy of the band proves that bands need a positive audience response to play their very best. This was the last recording to feature the original band, and what a way to bid farewell to their original sound!

The Outlaws Carry On After Several Losses
on January 1, 2017

With LEGACY LIVE, the Outlaws have proven that they can still make a great live album even without founder Hughie Thomasson. This may be because Henry Paul has a voice similar enough to Hughie's to sing the majority of the band's catalog and do it immense justice, as well as the fact that Paul was in the band when it started in 1972. The blend of sweet country vocal harmonies and true-grit Southern rock is still there, with guitarist Steve Grisham, who played a Gibson Les Paul during his 80s Outlaws stint, now playing a Fender Stratocaster, and Chris Anderson playing a Gibson Les Paul and emulating the late Billy Jones' vocal style without cloning it. This CD is essential for every fan of Southern-fried rock.

Great Antidote For Grunge
on January 1, 2016
Posted by: footpathcowboy
from Kingston NY
DIABLO CANYON, which the Outlaws released in 1994, right at the height of the grunge movement, was the perfect antidote for that annoying sound. Blending sweet vocal harmonies with an Allmans/Skynyrd-style guitar attack, the Outlaws add a sense of melodrama that, in a way, fits in with the alternative sound, but with far better singing, playing, writing, and production. The lyrics are also better, telling tales of the Old West rather than spouting teen angst, which made me love this CD when it came out, even though I was 22 at the time. I'll be 44 this year, and I still love DIABLO CANYON.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Millennium Album
on January 1, 2016
Posted by: footpathcowboy
from Kingston NY
EDGE OF FOREVER is Lynyrd Skynyrd's millennium album. Many of the songs are extremely cautionary, and warn us not to be too sure of our luck. In fact, the second cut, "Full Moon Night", talks about a man killing his wife and then himself, which happened in the neighborhood where my parents live in 2000. I happened to walk by the scene of the incident the day after, and it was very eerie. Another song, "Tomorrow's Goodbye", inspires me to recycle my cans every week, for which I get money, and the title track warns us to beware of those in power if we don't want to face dire consequences. Overall, this CD is essential listening for anyone who thinks they're bulletproof.

Great Budget-Priced Box Of Lynyrd Skynyrd
on January 1, 2016
Posted by: footpathcowboy
from Kingston NY
5 CLASSIC ALBUMS is a great budget-priced slipcase containing five classic Lynyrd Skynyrd albums, including the exemplary SECOND HELPING. Throughout the box, you'll here plenty of cautionary lyrics that not only would help me look well in all ways for a woman I might meet in a social group, but are scary enough in their own right to make most goth bands sound wimpy by comparison. One song, "The Needle And The Spoon", inspires me not to even use wine for religious purposes or toasts, whereas others warn against trusting others too much and tell us not to be too sure of our luck. The only flaw this set has is that SOUTHERN BY THE GRACE OF GOD and TWENTIETH CENTURY MASTERS were included instead of PRONOUNCED LEHN'-NERD' SKIN'-NERD and/or STREET SURVIVORS.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Break Out Of The Gate Running
on January 1, 2016

PRONOUNCED LEHN'-NERD' SKIN'-NERD, Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album, is one of their best ever. The band had been honing their sound for years before it was recorded, so they sound like veterans right from the get-go. The mournful "Tuesday's Gone" and anthemic "Free Bird" speak to me as explanations of why I no longer visit my old school, whereas "Simple Man" does likewise to justify my traditionalist musical tastes and several other tracks convey cautionary warnings that I'd heed if I join a social group and want to look good for a woman I meet there. This CD has some of the scariest lyrics around, making most goth bands seem wimpy by comparison.

Has anybody had a problem importing and playing, in I-Tunes, the Darkness on the Edge of Town CD from Bruce Springsteen's The Collection 1973-84?

I did not have any problems importing that CD.
