Door does not latch due to fatal structural issue

This washer is very good at washing dishes and is VERY quiet, however there is a fatal flaw that required us to replace the unit. The door latch simply did not work. The door would pop open slightly during cycles, just enough to turn the unit off. Combined with the extremely quiet operation, you never knew if the unit is on or off. Eventually we had to prop the door closed with a chair. With the internal controls we could not tell if the unit was on or off or if a cycle was completed without opening the door. This design flaw may be due to an attempt by Bosch to reduce costs by using a plastic structural frame rather than metal.

Bosch customer service was pretty good about resolving the issue. They sent a repairman to install a stiffener bar to address the door latch issue (apparently this was not a unique issue and Bosch had a fix, but it was unsuccessful on our case). After that failed repair attempt, Bosch agreed to replace the unit. We chose to upgrade to a different unit to avoid the same problem. We also chose a unit with controls that are not hidden so we can monitor cycle progress. If this was a car, it would have been recalled. As it is just a dish washer it is up to the consumer to resolve with them.
