KeninMA's Reviews

Brew coffee like a barista with this DeLonghi manual espresso machine. It creates shots of authentic espresso with its 15 bars of pressure and multiple filters, and its manual frother steams milk for a creamy cappuccino. This DeLonghi manual espresso machine's separate water and steam thermostats let you make your drink at the perfect temperature.

Great Little Manual Machine

We have had this for about a month. We were looking for a compact espresso maker / milk frother because we had limited counter top space.
The controls are simple: For steam turn the dial to the left and wait until the green light comes on, then open the steam / water valve on the right to let the steam out. For espresso or hot water, turn the dial one click to the right and wait for the green light. For espresso, then turn it one click more to the right to start the pump. For hot water, open the steam / water valve on the right then turn the dial one click more to the right to start the pump.
You adjust the draw amount by how long you keep the pump on. There is a nice creama head on the espresso and it tastes as good as the beans you use :).
We found that the frother tends to make bigger bubbles than some other machines we've had, but that can be minimized by stopping steaming a bit earlier.
The different inserts are a nice idea, but we always use the double insert. It wants to pop out as you are knocking the grounds out so you need to be careful.
The plastic scoop / tamper is OK, but also a pain to fill the double insert, so buy yourself a nice tamper and scoop. Our previous machines were fully automatic so we had no experience filling and tamping. The first few days we got grounds everywhere and tended to overtamp (very slow draw) or undertamp (quick draw). But now we have learned to deposit the double scoop of grounds into the holder. and hold the scoop upside down while we knock the holder a bit to spread the grounds out. That leaves the grounds ready for tamping with nothing spilled, and we tamp it "just enough", but everyone will need to develop their own technique if this is their first machine..
Rather than removing and reinserting the water tank, we fill it from a pitcher.
Bottom line: This i a great value for a small machine.
